I do kinda think if they are going to do a unification match that they need the belts on the two biggest names in order to sell it. And John Cena vs Undertaker has happened a few times, but they will just pretend it hasn't, and that's about as strong a main event as they could do at this point.

Cena v Taker is the last big Taker at Mania match they have.

I can vouch for that one. I'm friends on FB with a local guy whose only had maybe six matches, but he talks like anyone who hasn't been in the ring doesn't know shit about shit.

One of the things that I always found funny was that as jealous of the Rock he is, Triple H could have been just as charismatic if he didn't spend so much time being Serious Angry Wrestler Guy. When his character allows for being funny he was good at it more often than not.

Maybe cynicism has taken over, but all I could think watching that was that this was during the time period when Steve Austin could no longer wrestle and his GM role had run its course, so he was desperately trying to find a way to be useful and hang around, and HHH got to fill his normal spot of truth-telling heel and bury his gimmick.

You're probably right. Someone should do a comp of all the times HHH was able to bury someone in a promo and the person on the receiving end was not allowed anything more than "you're right".

I've been watching the WWE's Elimination Chamber DVD set, just finished the NWO 2008 Smackdown/ECW Chamber match. The thing that sticks out is how in every match the announcers try to give the hard sell to the plexiglass and how it's bulletproof and nothing can break it. Yet, in every match so far, it's wound up being broken.

 

It's also been fun to watch the EC evolve from a glorified cage match into something with a life of it's own. Especially the NYR 2006 and the one from the ECW PPV.

I did feel kind of bad for Austin during that time though. The sheriff gimmick was actually his idea and he was excited about it and thought it would get over huge. I remember it being reported at the time that he thought it was such a good idea that he didn't want anyone beyond the creative team to know about it because it would be such a great suprise/reveal. Maybe the first sign that times had passed him by.

I wouldnt stay it was a matter of times passing him by. More him trying to find his post his in ring wrestling career. In 2010 he seems at peace doing movie roles and really happy for him as quite some time he was walking around like a lost sole.
