Yeah. On the lower end you need something like a Sima Go-DVD, but I don't think they're made anymore. On the higher end, any time base corrector will do it. In between there are other things that defeat more forms of protection, like the Grex. There might be some more Europe-specific devices with SCART connections, too.

TNA is not generally looked at in a positive light by the majority of wrestling fans nowadays, if ever. I was curious if anyone was planning on ordering/watching Bound for Glory tonight though?

So apparently TNA can pay J-Woww from Jersey Shore $15,000 for a one time appearance but they can't pay the women on the roster enough to not need part time jobs? At this point anyone working for this company not Sting/Hogan/Nash is a god damned idiot.

TNA's always been embarassingly grateful to nab D-list celebrities for one night. Remember when they got one of the dudes from The Sopranos to back up the Dudleys... and it was the guy who plays fuckin' Bobby? An absolutely non-threatening fat guy, one of the least menacing characters on that show? And they were presenting him as if they got Robert DeNiro to show up. And probably paid him more money than your average X-division dude gets all year.

Well, it's like I've said before, there's that flip side to TNA drawing a big number. Yeah, it means a lot of people saw their show, but it also means that a lot of people saw how much their show sucks, and won't be tuning in again.

The problem with bringing J-Woww in is that (I believe) Jersey Shore airs new episodes on Thursday nights within the same timeframe as Impact. And, according to what I read about the tapings, if it airs as taped the J-Woww segment airs during Jersey Shore's timeslot. So, who the hell is supposed to crossover and watch a Jersey Shore star on TNA if they're actually watching a new episode of Jersey Shore at the same time?

 

And regarding Freddie Prinze Jr. - does anyone know any of the angles/promos/gimmicks he was responsible for his first time through as a writer?

The problem with many of these celebrity appearances is that the writers just don't understand how to use them so they can truly draw in viewers. When the WWF used Mike Tyson back in 1998, they first hyped an appearance at the Royal Rumble where he was essentially mentioned a few times but wasn't the focus. He then showed up on Raw the next night, then got confronted by the hottest act in the company in Steve Austin, who threw down the gauntlet and, as they say, all hell broke loose.

 

So they had a celebrity who everybody was familiar with to some degree, paired with the hottest act in the company, and doing a slow build for the storyline until the final payoff was delivered.

 

The big problem with TNA is they just simply believe a celebrity will draw interest simply by showing up and getting involved, but nobody there understood the formula or the build for Tyson's involvement in WWF. Honestly, WWE itself failed to understand that when they brought in Donald Trump, although they seemed to do a better job with Floyd Mayweather.

 

So... not only is the TNA product bad, but they also do a bad job of using a celebrity to attract interest. It's not enough for a celebrity to show up and have an altercation with a wrestler... you have to understand what building an angle is all about.

While the larger point about TNA stands, I'd argue just the opposite about this. They brought Trump in and immediately paired him with one of the biggest stars in the company - Mr. McMahon, with Austin coming back to get involved as things went on. The execution wasn't as perfect as the Tyson stuff, largely due to the fact that Trump seems to have very little interest in working with wrestling for a guy who's worked with wrestling as much as he has, but at the end of the day, they built to quite likely the biggest money drawing match ever in wrestling, largely on the strength of the Trump/McMahon rivalry.

 

On the other side, as much as I loved Show vs. Mayweather, the build to that was all kinds of botched, as WWE didn't seem to understand what made Mayweather a star personality-wise. Even when they seemingly did the double turn to correct the obvious mistake of booking Money Mayweather as a face, everyone else in the company seemed to ignore it, only now the motivations were totally screwed up. Again, the match itself was phenomenal, and worked exactly the way it should have been, but the road there was a mess.

 

Besides, everyone knows the real best utilized celebrity in recent WWE history is Bob Barker.

It probably shouldn't be undersold that Tyson was/is a huge fan and actually enjoyed doing the stuff he did rather than looking like the usual celeb just there for a paycheck and/or plug their latest work.
