Mid South Wrestling Volume 016

Produced: July 9, 1982

• Jesse Barr vs. Ted Dibiase

Fun semi-comeptative squash, Barr is a great bumping babyface, still not a disc worthy match

Produced: July 15, 1982

• Buck Robley vs. The Grappler

So the main angle in Mid-South is DiBiase as newly turned heel champion who is dastardly loading his glove and cheating to win. Here is an undercard match with a undercard heel loading his boot, against a face loading his arm pad.

• Buddy Landell vs Ted Dibiase

Similar match to DiBiase v. Barr, but not as good. Budro really looks like Jim Powers at this point

• Mr Olympia vs. Bob Roop

This is great, easily a disc selection. Haven't been impressed with other Olympia but he look choice here, even breaking out a tope. I loved all the back and forth, as both guys kept countering each others moves. Finish was especially great with a battle of sleepers, slam dunk pick.

• The Junk Yard Dog and Ernie Ladd vs. The Assassin and Rick Harris

Fun show ending brawl, nothing disc worthy, but Assassin is yet another wrestler loading something. Three guys not DiBiase on one show doing DiBiase's gimmick.

Landell does a great face arm pump to get fired up but yeah Barr takes the cooler bumps.

This is fantastic. I leaped out of my seat to pop for finish. Filled with answer type spots. One guy does something, opponet finds answer and gets revenge by doing simlar spot. Ton of neat intricate things. Roop does this really nasty knee drop springing off bottom rope in begining of this match that really almost looks like a potatoe and then Olympia almost monkey flips Roop out of ring in a ridiculously stiff monkey flip. a Stiff monkey flip as receipt? Just everything in this looks great. Roop's sleaper is absolutely nasty looking. Neat execution, neat spots, great paceing, cool finish run. This would have made top ten on the WWF set.

Phil somehow forgets that the Grappler runs in on the match with his loaded boot.

I guess the booking here is that JYD survives a chair shot a loaded mask and a loaded boot=whatever Dibiase put in his glove is really hard.

Grappler ends up eating the pin. Why the need to protect Rick Harris? Why not?

The Assassin is doing color commentary and he rules of course.

There is another hilarious Paul Ellering segment training with the kids.

“Precious” Paul Ellering vs. Billy Starr (7/7/82)

Squash.

Ted DiBiase vs. Jesse Barr (7/7/82)

Good match.

Junkyard Dog & Mr. Olympia vs. Bill Ash & The Grappler (7/7/82)

The champs look good. Nothing like seeing Duggan & Akbar together watching from the back.

Hacksaw Duggan vs. Vinnie Romeo (7/7/82)

Squash.

Killer Khan vs. Buddy Landell (7/7/82)

Poor Budro.

One Man Gang vs. Cocoa Samoa (7/7/82)

Squash.

Ernie Ladd & Colonel Buckley Christopher George Robley III vs. Ricky Harris & Bob Roop (7/7/82)

Not a bad match.

Colonel Buckley Christopher George Robley III vs. The Grappler (7/7/82)

This is a loaded match and pretty fun.

Ted DiBiase vs. Buddy Landell (7/7/82)

Squash.

Iron Mike Sharpe vs. Bill Ash (7/7/82)

Squash.

Killer Khan & One Man Gang vs. Cocoa Samoa & Vinnie Romeo (7/7/82)

Squash.

Mississippi Heavyweight Title: Mr. Olympia © vs. Bob Roop (7/7/82)

Both men looked great here and this was one of the best matches from this period of Mid-South TV. Olympia’s tope was awesome. Already locked in as a nomination.

Hacksaw Duggan vs. Mike Bond (7/7/82)

Squash.

Junkyard Dog & “Big Cat” Ernie Ladd vs. The Assassin & Ricky Harris (7/7/82)

DiBiase takes a seat at ringside taking notes. Assassin headbutted JYD in the back with his loaded mask and he fell to the floor where DiBiase talked shit but JYD KOed him. JYD then went for the mask but DiBiase clocked him with a chair before Ladd took him out. Grappler came in wearing an Assassin mask loading up his boot but JYD would take care of him. JYD then started cleaning house with Ladd and he would hit the Thump on Grappler for the win. Fun brawl.
