Posted July 22, 200718 yr comment_5419645 Gustavo Mendoza v Perry Jackson Gustavo Mendoza is Puerto Rican working a Cuban gimmick and one of my favorite prelim guys. Perry Jackson would later be Action Jackson in Global. This was a nothing as Gustavo does his missed rolling senton spot and nails Jackson in face with foot. Mendoza does heel pin holding the tights but holding the front of tights exposing Jackson's pubes for all to see. Not going to make a set, but if we need to recoup some money by advertising a gay interest jobber comp on ebay... Ted Dibiase vs. Gary Young More Global workers as jobbers, not as good as the Mendoza match. The Sheepherders vs. Tracy Smothers & /Brett Sawyer Tracy Smothers is amazingly great as overzealous babyface. All is overzealous spots absolutely rule. this shouldn't make a set, but I could see reccomending it to people just to show "this is how you work overzealous babyface, gets too full of self and cut off". Kimala v Hacksaw Duggan Hacksaw subs for jobber and this is really great but too short, I have a feeling these two will have a better match against each other that belongs on set. Michael Hayes vs. Ted Dibiase (sub for Terry Taylor) and it's UWF TV main event that only goes two minutes before "we run out of time". You know I give Russo alot of shit for repeating the same angles in multiple matches on same show. But for a show where they recap the big Gilbert/Korshenko/Watts/Williams feud, this had way too many foreign heels. You need to mix in a chickenshit heel and an asshole heel or some other variation. But show with a Evil Cuban, Evil New Zealanders, and an Evil Ugandan, led by an Evil Arab. Really makes me less engaged in evil Russian storyline. On top of that they run two face asks other face wrestler if he can sub in so as to face his heel rival angles.
December 4, 200718 yr comment_5424793 Gustavo Mendoza vs. Perry Jackson (5/11/86) Very good competitive match between the two guys who job to the big boys. Gustavo threw a great clothesline and used a real short snap neckbreaker to win. Really good match. Ted DiBiase vs. Gary Young (5/11/86) Michael Hayes was killin DiBiase on commentary throughout the entire match. DiBiase was so damn good in this and Young wasn’t quite yet Gorgeous. DiBiase threw a great clothesline here taking Young’s head off. The Sheepherders vs. Brett Sawyer & Tracy Smothers (5/11/86) Sawyer & Smothers give a great account of themselves especially Sawyer but they just couldn’t take out the Sheeps. Still a really solid TV match which was great about UWF at this time as just about every TV match was at least good. Kamala vs. Dave Peterson (5/11/86) The Kamala matches were the exception to the previous rule but they were needed for his gimmick. Duggan comes running to ringside before the match and decides to take Peterson’s place, well this is a better option. Duggan starts in on Kamala immediately and Kamala sells a Duggan clothesline like death. Duggan kills him with punches but Kamala gets the advantage and starts using his chops on Duggan taking him down. The brawl goes to the floor where Duggan gets the advantage and rams Kamala head first into the announce table. The brawl goes back to the ring and Duggan hits his big spear and IT’S BREAKIN DOWN IN TULSA but Kamala gets the advantage back taking him down with a big foot and hits his big splash but Duggan kicks out as Jim Ross goes completely apeshit. Kamala chops the referee out of frustration causing the DQ as Akbar enters the ring but Kamala chops him by accident. Duggan sends Kamala out of the ring and goes for a spear on Akbar but he ducks out as well as Duggan IS WALKING TALL. This was tremendous and needs to go on DVD as an extra. Jack Victory vs. ? (5/11/86) Dark Journey now a babyface said that she had someone that could defeat Lady Maxine’s man Jack Victory on this block earlier and before the match Maxine jumps DJ while Victory holds her so she could use her whip on DJ. This was to setup the Missing Link coming to town to take care of business. Terry Taylor vs. Michael Hayes (5/11/86) DiBiase is on commentary so you can probably tell what is going to happen here. Hayes says before the match if DiBiase is on commentary so DiBiase goes ahead down to the ring and pleads with Taylor to take his spot. Taylor tells Teddy to wear him out so the match starts in a wild brawl. DiBiase’s punches were so great here taking Hayes to the floor with 1 minute left of TV time. DiBiase pounds Hayes’ head into the turnbuckles as the credits roll and continues the punching attack as TV time runs out.
