UWF38 (9/7/86?)

Gustavo Mendoza v Gary Young

I really enjoy your Gustavo Mendoza UWF openers, solid undercard wrestling, the kind of basic shit I really dig

Wild Bill Irwin & One Man Gang vs. Gaylord & Raitz

Squash

The Fantastics vs. Sting & Eddie Gilbert

This was pretty damn great, It is fun to watch Sting work as stooging heel, This was a suprisingly great performance from Bobby Fulton who usually kind of stinks. Crazy hot crowd, and a great Watts style clusterfuck ending. I think this makes a DVD

Michael Hayes vs. Terry Taylor

For the TV titel, and maybe the best Micheal Hayes singles match I have ever seen. Starts out quasi scientific, and breaks out into a brawl with Taylor getting his head rammed into the ringbell and bleeding all over the ring. Hayes seemed to really be working hard during this period.

John Tatum vs. Missing Link (Valet for a day match)

Not a super long match, but fun for the Hot Stuff and Hyatt breakup

UWF39 9-15-86

The Libyan v "Glassman"

Really needed Gustavo Mendoza to hold this together, Glassman is a poor mans PYT era Norvell

Terry Gordy vs. Dr. Death (complete)

This is a top five match easy, pretty much the poster child for UWF style wrestling, two big rawboned guys pounding on each other. Just great piledrivers from both guys, and alot of really wreckless looking brawling. I really liked the multiple ref bump bullshit finish too.

Leroy Brown vs. Bobby Perez

Leroy Brown has a really great elbow drop

Michael Hayes vs. Iceman King Parsons (Inomplete)

Not much of a match, couple of minutes and then a finish

Gary Young vs. Gustavo Mendoza (8/31/86)

Gustavo looks good here and Young is a solid opponent for him then gets the win.

Wild Bill Irwin & One Man Gang vs. Jeff Gaylord & Jeff Raitz (8/31/86)

Squash.

UWF Tag Titles: The Fantastics (Bobby Fulton & Tommy Rogers) © vs. “Hot Stuff” Eddie Gilbert & Sting (8/31/86)

Missy & Tatum are in the corner of the heels. There is something about the Fants working in Tulsa as they pretty much at their best in Tulsa. Gilbert is awesome early selling Fulton’s offense and Sting was really good at selling too plus his stooging like Phil pointed out. I loved Fulton’s low kicks on Gilbert as he was trying to get away to make the hot tag to Rogers. The 4-way brawl was on with Sting picking up Fulton for a slam then swinging his legs knocking Carl Fergie out. Fulton & Sting would tumble over the top rope to the floor as Gilbert demolished Rogers with a backdrop suplex. Tatum gets on the apron and they try to double clothesline Rogers but he ducks and hits a cross body block on Gilbert but there is no referee. Tatum would then dive off the top rope with a knee hitting Rogers on the back of the head so the Link comes out and hits his diving headbutt on Gilbert as the 4-way brawl is back on. Link & Tatum then start brawling making this a DDQ. This is a wild brawl that Dark Journey & Missy Hyatt get in on as well. This was fun stuff and should move forward.

UWF TV Title: Terry Taylor © vs. Michael “PS” Hayes (8/31/86)

This was a really good competitive match with Hayes doing great in a rare singles match for him in UWF. Hayes would bash Taylor’s head on the ringside table and Taylor juices so Hayes starts biting on the cut then follows with the bulldog for a nearfall. Hayes would keep up the offense but Taylor would get a flash schoolboy out of a backdrop suplex attempt for the win. Hayes then decks Tommy Gilbert and takes off his belt that he would whip Taylor with until DiBiase comes out to make the save. Like I said this was a really good little match but not enough for nomination.

Valet for a Day: The Missing Link vs. “Hollywood” John Tatum (8/31/86)

Interference galore here to try and help Tatum win the match but of course it would backfire and Tatum lost.

The Libyan vs. The Glassman (9/14/86)

Squash.

Dr. Death & Bill Watts visits the University of Oklahoma football team and this is a great video to show before the next match.

UWF Heavyweight Title: Terry “Bamm Bamm” Gordy © vs. “Dr. Death” Steve Williams (9/14/86)

Doc comes in like a fuckin madman so the tone has been set for this match already being an all-action brawl but they start out though on the ground playing to Doc’s amateur background. Man there were some great punches thrown in this one and the work in general was just some great big-man fighting, like Phil said earlier the prototypical Bill Watts type of match. I loved the psychology of the piledriver that was used here with Doc trying to give Gordy his own medicine and he hit some great ones. Gordy juicing was choice and his agility missing the 180 splash off the middle rope on Carl Fergie was tremendous. The whole finish with the referees was and the double pin was great just because that wasn’t a real common finish then. Jim Ross was also great on this on commentary getting the whole deal over. A tremendous match and a slam dunk nomination.

The Hyatt/Hot Stuff International breakup angle plays out next and everyone is great in this.

“Bad Bad” Leroy Brown vs. Bobby Perez (9/14/86)

Squash and I loved Leroy in Georgia too bad he would die a year or so later.

Michael “PS” Hayes vs. Iceman King Parsons (9/14/86)

DiBiase comes out with Iceman in his return match to Wattsland to counter Buddy Roberts. The match only goes for a couple of minutes before TV time runs out as Hayes whips Iceman with the strap.
