JR is the king of crypticism, so my expectations are low, although if he told all, it would probably be the best wrestling book ever.

I used to think Cornette would be the best wrestling book ever (and in some respects the Midnights book is the best pro wrestling documentary history I've ever seen though that's obviously not what I mean) and I'm sure it would have the best stories (although I would venture to guess Dutch Mantell's book has some great stories), but I have admit Ross is probably the single guy most likely to do an insightful book even with his penchant for the needlessly vague.

Only chance of major publisher taking a gander on this is Simon and Schuster via WWE. Otherwise I just can't see it.

Yeah, my guess is that Jim will work on version 1 of the book: the WWE Version of the book. Hope it maks Vince happy, and gets him a nice new contract.

 

If that fails, and Jim gets pissed off, we might get a good vesion. But as hateful and grouchy as Jim as, he's still very protective of the business and isn't one to air loads of dirty laundry.

If Gary Michael Capetta can get a book published, why not Ross?

 

I'm never entertained by trashing books anyway. Ross has worked for enough promotions that done right, it'd be a heck of a read. I just hope he has a good editor. (I don't mean that as snark. I've read enough biographies that I've gotten a feel for how important the editing process is.)

Cappetta's book was self published initially before ECW Press re-released it in 2006.

Are you sure it was self-published? I was able to pretty easily get the original version from my library and I don't think I've ever seen any self-published stuff anywhere in their system aside from local historical material. I can't find anything about the publisher not related to this book so you're probably right, though.

Heh. I only used S&S as the example because they're WWE's publisher. No other "major" has released a wrestling book in the US that I can think of.

I don't think this is a hateful thing to say. JR is well known for being a proponent of the tights-n-boots tradition of gear, with the reasonably logical motivation that if a guy is wearing anything else then you could just yank on all that other shit at opportune times and easily win the match. I've always hated it when anyone wrestled with piercings, it looks so ridiculous.

Frankly, if anything, it's not gimmicky enough. I was always a fan of the "babyface ties IRS' tie to the ropes/rudo ties Octagon's bandanna to the ropes" spot. Always up for heels waylaying faces as they remove their ring gear. If a wrestler wears an outfit that their opponent can use against them, I like seeing it used against them. Like Rovert said, piercings are something that a wrestler can have used against them, but I don't really remember ever seeing it happen. It seems like a missed opportunity to me.

I recall one of the Mean Street Posse had his eyebrow ring ripped out during a match in Memphis, but obviously that wasn't exactly a called spot.

Totally agree. These days workers all look the same. They are all from the same mold. No characters anymore. Piercings are "gimmicky" ? Jeez. Fat guys are gimmicky too. Big muscular guys used to be gimmicky. Everything is gimmicky. Flair was gimmicky. The Rock was gimmicky. Ross is so out of the loop.

Well, yeah, I guess stuff like that and the Bossman/Droz thing happens. I was thinking more along the lines of "Wrestler A gently tugs at Wrestler B's piercing, and Wrestler B sells it like Wrestler A is trying to rip it out". If it's there to be used, use it.

And Shawn Michaels is the greatest wrestler to ever lace up a pair of boots!

 

Also, is it just me or do I sense a tone from J.R. that real men don't wear such jewelery?
