Jake also takes some really athletic bumps, for a guy I don't remember being particularly athletic. I was loving the punch exchanges here, actively crap ending hurts its a bit, the ref DQing a champion instead of just pinning him is retarded, but absolutely on the set.
August 17, 200718 yr comment_5420785 This another good match between the 2. I watched their matches between each other totally ass backwards. Jake was delivering some nasty looking knee drops to Slater's shoulder. Again the H-town crowd was totally behind Jake. Jake is so great at using all the outside tools to help with the match. For example, the interplay between the ref and Jake in the Armstrong match. Here, their is some interaction with Dark Journey that helps with the story and play out later. Slater nails Jake with a swank looking swinging neck breaker. So Slater targets the neck and works it over. Jake goes for a kneelift and misses and takes a nice bump on his neck. This helps further the story. Like Phil said earlier the finish was just crap and hurt the match.Still, it deserves a space on a disk.
November 6, 200717 yr comment_5423524 Jake Roberts vs. Dick Slater 1/24/86 (SSW 13) - Nice DDT escape by Slater as the Houston crowd chants “DDT” in unison. I love Slater’s stalling to calm the crowd and his subsequent control of the match. Similar finish to the TV match except with the screwjob decision that left a bad taste in my mouth. Shit, I love the match but what a horrible, stupid, crappy finish. It is decisions like this that kill a territory.
November 21, 200717 yr comment_5424265 North American Heavyweight Title: “Mr. Unpredictable” Dick Slater © vs. Jake “The Snake” Roberts (1/24/86) This is the first match of their epic Houston series. I loved the knucklelock exchange with the kicks to the gut followed up by the DDT escape by Slater with the crowd chanting DDT. There was some really good action here with Slater bumping all over the place and Jake looking great with his offense. I loved the swinging neckbreaker reversal out of the DDT attempt by Slater who would follow up with a sweet piledriver. Slater had another awesome DDT escape by picking up Jake for a Scrap Buster but Jake would connect with the DDT clean as Slater would put on knux. Tommy Gilbert would count Slater at 2 but saw the knux on Slater’s hand and called for a DQ. Shitty finish but this would set up their other matches. Great stuff and a definite nomination.
