Posted July 26, 200718 yr comment_5419828 This is a No-DQ and is full of blood, for such an amazing heel, Jake is great as a babyface rallying the crowd behind him. I think the work in this might have been a step below their first match, but the finish was great. I loved all of the stuff with the boot, and Jake is just great at hitting the DDT out of nowhere
August 17, 200718 yr comment_5420783 This is a good match, but could have gone longer. Slater working the cut was just great. Jake going to town with the boot was all sorts of greatness. Jake had the crowd eating out of his hand. Slater has a great counter for the DDT by doing a backdrop to Jake. In both of the Jake-Slater matches that I've seen so far Slater has a great yet different counter for the DDT.Jake makes great comebacks as a babyface in his matches, just full of energy. The finish here was awesome. Jake goes for the boot again and drops it. Slater bends over to pick it up, Jake then steps on the boot so Slater can't stand back up, and wham DDT. Just frickin spectacular. I liked the Journey in a cage match better, but the finish in this is miles better. This should be on a disk.
November 6, 200718 yr comment_5423517 Phil, you have two of these matches listed as 2/14/86. Are you sure they are 2 different matches? I'll bump the other one so you can review.
November 6, 200718 yr comment_5423526 Dick Slater vs. Jake Roberts (No DQ) (2/14/86) (SSW 18) - Slater was laying in the kicks. No dead air between his boots and Jake’s head. Slater has an awesome piledriver. Slater learns from the past by successfully blocking most of Jake’s punches. Jake winning the NA title was a perfect ending that helped kill the bad taste of the 1/24 match. I am asucker for No DQ bloodfests and this was as good as the Dibiase-Duggan No DQ match I love so this is an enthusiastic yes for me. (Needs buildup from Bollom 6.1)
November 21, 200718 yr comment_5424294 No DQ Decision Match for the vacant North American Heavyweight Title: Jake “The Snake” Roberts vs. “Mr. Unpredictable” Dick Slater (2/14/86) Their last match in Houston had a controversial finish that caused the title to be held up and since then Jake has put out Dark Journey with his DDT that he talked about before the match which prompted Slater to attack him. Slater is fucking ruthless here with his punches and kicks really putting it to Jake. Slater’s DDT escapes were also good stuff. Jake threw some great punches as usual and when he got on offense he would take it to Slater. Slater would post Jake to get the blood flowing then hit a piledriver for a nearfall. Slater would continue pounding on Jake along with choking him with tape but Jake would start his comeback by taking off his boot and just waylaying on Slater. Slater is now juicing with the crowd going bonkers chanting for the DDT but Slater would block yet another attempt with the Scrap Buster. Slater would climb up top and landed his elbow smash for a nearfall as Jake would get his foot on the rope. Jake would go back to the boot but Slater would knock it down then as he went to pick it up, he got DDTed and pinned. Jake wins the title in a legendary finish in Houston wrestling because the day of the show a local Houston writer said that Jake was going to the WWF and he would lose to Slater. Boesch was fuming over this and met with Watts and they called this audible on the spot to give Jake the title. Slam dunk nomination.
