Posted July 28, 200718 yr comment_5419974 North American Heavyweight Title Tournament – Finals: Junkyard Dog vs. Mr. Olympia (3/21/83) This match was nothing but an angle to turn Olympia heel by putting him with Skandor Akbar and Kendo Nagasaki interfered as two referees were knocked out. Olympia had the sleeper on JYD on the mat laying on JYD’s face and the referee counted it as a pinfall because he was stunned. So there was no champion after this. King Kong Bundy vs. Ron Ellis (3/30/83) Bundy is pissed because he thought he was going to wrestle Andre the Giant but he got stuck with this scrub. Bundy said that he would walk out of the ring and Ellis would win by countout but Bundy wanted to shake his hand and of course beat the hell out of him. North American Heavyweight Title Tournament – Round 1: Tito Santana vs. Matt Borne (3/21/83) JIP. North American Heavyweight Title Tournament – Quarterfinals: Butch Reed vs. Hacksaw Duggan (3/21/83) Duggan is still heel here and Reed has just debuted so this is the first Battle of the Hacksaws. Once again Reed’s soupbones looked great and he even broke out a mongolian chop. This match is also clipped up which is a shame because it looked pretty good. North American Heavyweight Title Tournament – Quarterfinals: Kendo Nagasaki vs. Tito Santana (3/21/83) This is also clipped up. North American Heavyweight Title Tournament – Semifinals: Mr. Olympia vs. Butch Reed (3/21/83) This looked good but it’s clipped up. Mr. Olympia vs. Tim Horner (3/30/83) Olympia has just turned heel and he dishes out a beating on Horner. Horner didn’t turn on a backdrop by Olympia and landed face first in flapjack type spot. Horner bumped great the whole match doing a 360 bump off a headbutt was great. Olympia locks in his dreaded sleeper hold to win. Junkyard Dog vs. Super Destroyer (3/30/83) Super D was a pretty big name in Georgia holding the National Heavyweight & National Tag Titles but comes into Mid-South and has become a midcarder. Pretty decent back and forth match although it broke down near the end after a botched attempt at putting JYD on the ropes because he landed wrong. JYD got the advantage and hit his Thump for the win. King Kong Bundy vs. John Davidson (3/30/83) Total squash and that isn’t the game show host John Davidson. Kamala & Kendo Nagasaki vs. Art Crews & Ron Ellis (3/30/83) Yet another squash. Butch Reed vs. Kelly Kiniski (3/30/83) Reed was so fucking great at this time as he had a total package of power, speed, and technical ability. Reed just destroyed Kiniski.
