The Fantastics (Bobby Fulton & Tommy Rogers) vs. The Midnight Express (Dennis Condrey & Bobby Eaton) (6/30/85)

This is the last time these two teams faced each other Mid-South IIRC. Goddamn were there some great punches thrown early in this match by Eaton & Fulton as they sounded like leather whips to the face. Rogers gets in the ring and just looks awesome with a standing monkey flip, dropkick, powerslam combo. Fants were really good at agitating the MX with their kiss my ass spots, inviting Cornette to come in the ring, and just making the MX look stupid that when the MX gets their heat, they just pounded on Rogers. Fulton was selling his partner’s beating like they were almost killing him. Eaton’s punches continue to impress me and him & Rogers had the longest exchange of the match which was really great. Rogers finally made the hot tag to Fulton who came in like the proverbial house-o-fire and he got a sunset flip on Condrey but Condrey grabbed Cornette’s hand prompting Rogers to kick the hand away and Condrey fell over for the 3 count. Goddamn did the Tulsa women love them some Fantastics. I really really liked this match and I feel like throwing it up on the nomination block.

Mr. Kareem Muhammad vs. Frank Lang (6/30/85)

Squashmania.

Dutch Mantell vs. Terry Daniels (6/30/85)

Fun little match and Dutch was awesome.

The Barbarian & Jake Roberts vs. The Dirty White Boys (Tony Anthony & Len Denton) (6/30/85)

This starts out in a wild brawl as the DWB’s attack Jake as soon as he gets in the ring until Barbarian evens the sides and goes to town on them sending them to the floor. Barbarian started the match and Jake was great at coaching him what to do yelling out squeeze everytime he had Denton in a headlock. Funny watching Jake react to being a huge babyface as he looked like he was ecstatic. Jake hit some great kneelifts in this and did the DDT tease on both DWB’s that really got the crowd in a frenzy. It was also funny watching the DWB’s beg for Barbarian to come in the ring and then he gets in there and beats their ass putting them in bearhugs in succession. DWB’s finally get their heat about 10 minutes into the match on Jake of course and they do a pretty good number on him. Denton did a great job in trying to keep Jake away from making the hot tag to Barbarian and locked him in a sleeper hold to really weaken him down more. Barbarian finally got the hot tag and the Tulsa crowd erupted as all four men brawled. Denton took his boot off and nailed Barbarian in the back but missed as he went for his head hitting Anthony instead. Jake then DDTed Anthony with Barbarian getting the cover for the win and Jake got on the house mic after the match and calmly said DDT. This is another match I liked but not sure if it’s a nomination yet. It is a definite maybe pick.

North American Heavyweight Title: The Nightmare © vs. Terry Taylor (6/30/85)

Some good back and forth action early on and I really liked Taylor’s kneedrops to the head as he put all his weight into it. Taylor then went a different route trying to work on Nightmare’s leg sorta playing off the Ric Flair angle from the month prior where Taylor “perfected” the figure-four leglock and Flair used Nightmare to be his bounty hunter to take the NA title. Nightmare counted the legwork with some armwork on his end. Taylor makes a small heated comeback but misses a running shoulderblock into post conveniently with the same arm that Nightmare had been working on. I also want to mention that Gilbert is at ringside shouting throughout the match talking shit about Taylor and it’s great. Nightmare has Taylor in a wristlock and the Tulsa crowd is going absolutely crazy for him to counter which he does into a backslide for a nearfall but Nightmare gets the control back using a shoulderbreaker for a nearfall. Man this armwork section by Nightmare is getting some tremendous heat and Gilbert’s constant yelling makes it even better begging for Taylor to submit. Gilbert calling Taylor stupid for not giving up and Carl Fergie yelling at Gilbert saying that he may be stupid but he won’t give up is great.

Taylor finally gets the advantage using a cross body block for a nearfall and does his damndest to keep the Nightmare from going back to work on his arm using a backdrop suplex to take him down. Gilbert tries to distract Taylor on the apron but Taylor won’t have it and catches Nightmare with a fist to the gut as he comes off the middle rope. They trade punches for a bit before Taylor hits the five-arm for a 1 count. Taylor runs Nightmare in the ropes and Nightmare ducks so Gilbert could hit Taylor with his stick. Nightmare drops an elbow and covers Taylor but Taylor gets a foot on the ropes at 2 making the Tulsa crowd go even more nuts. Nightmare tries for a piledriver but Taylor reverses it with a backdrop for another 2 count. They then hit their noggins as Taylor runs the ropes but as soon as they get up Taylor locks in a sleeper hold but Nightmare runs him to the corner with Taylor hitting his head on the buckle. Nightmare misses a kneedrop hurting his leg and Taylor goes to the figure-four but Nightmare pushes him in the corner. Nightmare then hits his piledriver for the 3 count. This was the best match I’ve seen the Nightmare in so far and it wasn’t all just Taylor, Nightmare really worked hard here. This is a definite DVD pick for me.

Mid-South Tag Titles: Ted DiBiase & “Dr. Death” Steve Williams © vs. The Rock n Roll Express (Robert Gibson & Ricky Morton) (6/30/85)

RnR came out and jumped Teddy & Doc before the match taking their titles and it starts out with all four men going at it. One thing about the early part of the match was there was no sound for the first couple of minutes but it finally kicks in. Teddy & Doc were great at being stooging heels stalling for time on the floor and did chickenshit heel spots like Doc complaining about his tights being pulled. The mood soon changed though as Doc threw Morton to the floor and Teddy picked him up and pressed him back first into the ringpost a couple of times. Doc & Morton was really fun to watch as Doc was just killing Morton with his backbreakers and Teddy finally got the tag at the 10 minute mark. The backwork continues with Teddy talking shit on both RnR so he & Doc can get a doubleteam slam for a nearfall. Both men tag in and out working on Morton’s back and Teddy even gets a bodyslam to the concrete as Doc distracts Gibson, which Teddy denied of course to the referee. Doc uses some bearhugs to really weaken Morton’s back whipping the Tulsa crowd up. Teddy gets back in the ring and goes to work with his Boston Crab but Morton uses what power he has left to thrust Teddy into the corner. Gibson finally gets the hot tag and the brawl is on but Doc accidentally hits the referee with a clothesline and Gibson gets Doc in an O’Connor Roll but Doc powers him into the corner. Gibson then gets clocked with a chair by DiBiase as he runs the ropes and Doc covers for the win. This is another match that I really liked from this show and a finish with Teddy & Doc that doesn’t include a loaded glove or armbrace. Really solid match and I’m going to nom this.

Mid-South TV Title on the line for the first 15:00: The Snowman © vs. Eddie Gilbert (6/30/85)

Oh this should be something to see as it’s one of my favorites versus one of my non-favorites of all-time and I can’t wait to see what Gilbert can get out of this stiff. Gilbert went nose-to-nose with Snowman early but as Snowman would try to hit him he would duck under the top rope begging Snowman to hit him each time. Gilbert pulls out almost every chickenshit heel trick in the book here and bumps like a madman and has the crowd eating out of his hand after every action he makes. Gilbert tries to match power with Snowman a couple of times and you can predict how that turned out. Gilbert actually got a small heat section on Snowman but he planted him with his powerslam soon thereafter to win the match. Not much of a match perse but Gilbert was fucking awesome.

Kevin Von Erich vs. One Man Gang (6/30/85)

These two meet each other in Tulsa before they meet each other later in the day in OKC so we’ll see how different this match is from that one. It’s better than the OKC one as it went longer and there was more action than that one. It has the same exact finish as the OKC match with Akbar and the chain though.

All of these matches were from the Tulsa show and what a great show it was thanks a lot to the crowd.

The Fantastics (Bobby Fulton & Tommy Rogers) vs. The Midnight Express (Dennis Condrey & Bobby Eaton) (6/30/85)

Man this another really pedestrian match between these four. Eaton had some nice stuff, but opening face control felt dull, the heat segment was fine, but not much Condrey. No near falls for a finish, as Fulton comes in and basically pins him. Didn't like this at all, and there is no reason to have this match up on this set four times.

The Barbarian & Jake Roberts vs. The Dirty White Boys (Tony Anthony & Len Denton) (6/30/85)

I liked this a bunch more then the previous match, but I still think it doesn't make a cut. Jake is a really great demonstrative babyface and the crowd was super into the match. Still doesn't stand out in a way a match like this needs to stand out to make a set.

North American Heavyweight Title: The Nightmare © vs. Terry Taylor (6/30/85)

Eddie Gilbert as a second was really great, but was easily the best thing about the match. I have liked the Nightmare much more in other stuff. Arm work felt long and time wasting. I did like the finish as Nightmare's piledriver ruled, but this doesn't move on.

Mid-South Tag Titles: Ted DiBiase & “Dr. Death” Steve Williams © vs. The Rock n Roll Express (Robert Gibson & Ricky Morton) (6/30/85)

This was the best match on this show, but just falls a bit short of disc level. Morton was awesome here, but this felt similar to the Houston match which had alot of the same stuff, but was better. Still if we put something on from this disc, this should be the match
