Posted August 1, 200718 yr comment_5420055 Ted DiBiase vs. Dick Murdoch (12/31/85) This is from Oklahoma City and this is the big grudge match as it had been a month since the Ric Flair angle. DiBiase has his black glove on and uses it at will on Murdoch’s head. Murdoch gets the advantage and immediately goes for DiBiase’s neck using elbows and forearms to the back of the neck. Murdoch is great here being cold and calculating with the work on the neck and smashed DiBiase’s head on the ringside table to bust him open for good measure. Murdoch is working really stiff here with his punches and a kick to the head that was brutal but DiBiase comes back with his own punches including the diving fistdrop. DiBiase busts Murdoch open and starts biting the wound so we have double juice going here and the hatred is showing. Murdoch gets the advantage back though by raking his eyes and as DiBiase was loading the glove, Murdoch knees him in the back and sends him to the floor. Murdoch then drops DiBiase neck first across the security railing. Murdoch then grabs a chair and starts ramming it in DiBiase’s neck until Tommy Gilbert pulls it away. DiBiase rolls back in the ring and meets a diving elbow smash for a nearfall. Murdoch then goes back to the stiff punches and kicks and then breaks out the old Ivan Koloff finisher as he climbs the top rope grabbing DiBiase by the back of the head and driving him down to the mat with his knee. DiBiase kicks out of the pinfall attempt and loads his glove up before Murdoch goes for the brainbuster that DiBiase countered out of and just jacked Murdoch’s jaw with the glove for the win. Great heated brawl and a tremendous crowd in OKC to boot. Definite DVD pick.
August 1, 200718 yr comment_5420060 This one has so much notoriety behind it, we are obligated to put it on. I think it stands up on its own but there are much better matches with both guys. Still, the hype this match has gained through the years make this one of those "must include no matter what" matches.
August 1, 200718 yr comment_5420091 I liked this match. Both guys were just throwing great looking punches. Murdock's neck work on Dibiase was spot on. The spot where Murdock does a reverse neck breaker using the top rope as opposed to his shoulder was awesome. Ted took a nice bump off it. Any time Murdock works his curly shuffle sell into the match makes me happy. The hatred came across the screen well. Dibiase sold a beating like a king. Part of me thought the pacing wuas a little slow, but then another part of me is saying the guys are selling a beating. I think these guys could have had an incredible Texas Death Match in them. I think this should be nominated.
October 28, 200717 yr comment_5423222 This was spectacular, I love Murdoch constantly rabbit punch DiBiase in the back of the head, and the blood and punching. This should obviously make a list, and I imagine I will put it really high. I have no problem with the pacing, as it really feels like a long brutal violent war, I also loved the fake out Murdoch did while jumping the ring apron
October 29, 200717 yr comment_5423238 Yeah the Bre'r rabbit leaping back and forward around apron spot wwas really cool here. Essentially the Saturday Nights main event face chases heel around ring only to get suckered when coming back in but somehow doing it with the apron compressed it into a more serious spot. This is an obvious yes for me.
