I think we should get this nailed down soon, so we can start thinking about getting footage and shit.

New Japan

Pros: Different from what we are doing now, I am a big believer in mixing up the sets. Will was talking about doing a Fujinami comp, this will dovetail nicely with that

Cons: Ginnetty is still compiling shit for his season sets right?

All Japan

Pros: Very different, lots of Classics available

Cons: Same deal with Ginnetty

Joshi

Pros: Different, should a smaller project.

Cons: Kind of esoteric, might want to do a couple of popular ones in a row before doing something nichey

North America (Puerto Rico/Canada/Hawaii)

Pros: Pretty different, should be a fun set to look through

Cons: Would have to go out a get most of it

Texas (Early 80's Houston, WCCW, Southwest)

Pros: Pretty much all of it is allready out there

Cons: Similar rosters to Mid-South

Crockett pre-split

Pros: We have a bunch of the footage already

Cons: Pretty popular one to do post Mid-South, pretty similar guys

Crockett post-split

Ditto

AWA

Pros: Probably the easiest to do, Khawk has all the footage, short set

Cons: Maybe we want to wait a bit to do something so easy, wait until we are burned out

Mexico

Pros: Most Awesome of the sets

Cons: Jose is still digging shit up

Memphis

Pros: We have alot of the footage, always amped to see more Lawler

Cons: Similar to Mid-South

Other U.S.

Pros: Weird, should be fun to do

Cons: Pain in the ass

Sets I think we can do next but have problems...

For AWA, we should wait until KHawk says it is a go.

Texas- We can wait a bit because WWE is still releasing shit but I don't kow if they have released any rare footage. This may be a good next choice. The similar rosters really isn't that big of a deal in the large scheme of things.

Joshi- Between me, Dan and Jose, we have all possible TV, Comms. and AJW Classics. Can be done with practically no donations except to help Dan out for his troubles. Phil pointed out the con.

Memphis- This is the set I am looking forward to the most, however, I want to see how the seasons sets thing plays out with this ebay shiller. I also want to get a hold of ebay Rick to see how much I can pick up from him. I have almost all of Lynch's and Barnett's Memphis. This might be a good one to tackle after the next set.

I'm most looking forward to Memphis but I agree with Phil that it may be too similiar to Mid South. But in all fairness, the WWF and other 80's were niche sets as well, so doing Mid South and then Memphis would even the niche between the well known/more popular choices.

The joshi matches with US commentary from Vicious Verne's tapes, come from where?

What exactly is our goal for next set?

The WATTS set is going to be a big set and I imagine we will be giving people alot of time to watch it...hence we will have a lot of time to work while they're watching...so this may be time to work on more logistically difficult set.

But outside of that I see no reason not to do joshi as follow up.

The Joshi set may not be as small as you guys are thinking. The Dan Ginnetty footage is going to be about 250 4-hour discs (some is 70s or 90s, but it's 98% 80s) to go through if the goal is to watch everything. AJW Classics is an additional 75 discs, and then you have the few comm releases like Riot in the Rising Sun and Slant Eyed Slaughter, and the stuff that aired in the US that was mentioned. Overall, the final set may not be huge, but it's going to probably involve as much watching and nominating as All Japan and New Japan, if not slightly more, because for 1988 and 1989, you have both AJW and JWP to watch for one set.

The easiest to complete set to do next would be lucha, but who knows what will be found eventually to make it worth waiting for.

My main point was that we have access to Dan and Jose to pick up the joshi. I asked Dan just the other night and he assured me that he thinks he has about as much joshi that could possibly be had from the 80s from Classics, TV and Comms.

While people are watching Watts, you guys can be watching the joshi while I am collecting for the set after. If we do any other set besides Crockett, it will be people watching Watts and you guys waiting for me to finish collecting footage for the next set.

OK,

is Vicious Verne the same as Verne Siebert? If so, I have direct access to Verne so that may not be an issue.

Also, Dan is selling me the discs at half price so money to get them will be alot cheaper.

The biggest holdback is that Jose is busy as shit and trading with him for the available shows may be a hassle until he slows down.

Also, the joshi TV from Dan are already in 4 hour mode so the file sizes are already ready to be assembled. It just means I will have to record the Classics and comms in live time 4 hour mode to shrink those files.

Vicious Verne is Verne Siebert and I don't know if he is aware of what he has on any of his tapes, which makes dealing with him to actually find stuff a crap shoot.

I want to say that the 1980s Americo Rocca title match with Mocha Cota was found in the miidle of a tape of Canadian Outlaw feds. That the Detroyer v Abe Jacobs match from an 80s Canadian Outlaw fed was found in the middle of a Memphis tape. Mixed in with his assorted tapes you regularly get this early Joshi stuff that was clearly broadcast in North America wth english commentary.

If there is a less scattershot source than Verne for that, we should be using that source instead.

I love getting tapes from Verne because its this awesome grabag where you never know what you're going to find. But for the "80s project" he really isn't the ideal source.

Are we thinking about doing NWAish set next? Will seems to be going on a binge.

Also I was thinking that the last set we do should be an erratta set. 50 or 75 matches which were released or discovered after the sets were done. For example if Enne Watts releases footage of some great Butch Reed v. JYD match in six months we could stick it on the erratta discs. This would also be a good place to stick any WWF matches which you guys think should have made the original WWF set but didn't. This would mean we wouldn't have to hold off on doing a set because we think some footage is out there but not available.

I wasn't planning on doing NWA next. I am working on a 4 Horsemen comp and since I hadd the discs out, I thought I would knock out some reviews and try and get ahead of the game so when we do the set, we can have a head start. It will also give us an idea of how big the set might be if we throw Crockett, Georgia, and Mid Atlantic altogether to see if we need to split it or not.

I thought we were doing joshi or the islands next.

comment_5425055

Yes, very much so.

I would still wait for All Japan and New Japan toward the end because we know that Dan is in the process of completing those collections.

It also means that we don't have to wait long for Memphis. In fact, I propose that Memphis should be our next set. It would allow us to have another super set while also allowing us to clear through that big bulk of Joshi. Mid South is going to pre-occupy enough time where we can basically work on two sets at one time.

comment_5425059

I like the idea of an Errata set as well. It's the kind of thing that could be done more than once so this project never completely dies.

Once this is completely done, is the idea still to have everyone submit an overall ballot of their top "x" number of matches from all categories? I think I heard something like that at one time.
