Posted August 9, 200718 yr comment_5420335 The Nightmare vs. Steve Constance (10/27/85) Constance actually gets some offense in on Nightmare but he had no chance. “Hot Stuff” Eddie Gilbert vs. Tony Falk (10/27/85) Two Memphis legends face each other in Oklahoma City. Gilbert is great here as usual and this wasn’t a bad match. “Bruiser” Bob Sweetan vs. “Dirty” Dutch Mantell (10/27/85) This has the makings to be a good fight but it started out slow with Dutch really being a dick heel. Dutch trying to hit Sweetan in the head with his taped fist is great because Sweetan just no sells it because he is the master of the taped fist matches. Dutch tried for a cheap cradle win using the ropes but the referee saw it and Sweetan decked him for the win. Fun little match. “Mad Dog” Buzz Sawyer & “Mr. Unpredictable” Dick Slater vs. The Fantastics (Bobby Fulton & Tommy Rogers) (10/27/85) Sawyer & Slater trying to pull the Fants in the ring as they were kissing chicks at ringside was great. Both teams look great here tagging in and out, doing double teams, working the ref to their advantage, good stuff. Dark Journey of course gets involved scratching Rogers and kicking him in the back. Rogers was fucking awesome here as the face in peril as he took quite the beating from Sawyer & Slater but kept on coming back. Fulton comes in like a house of fire and the 4-way brawl is on but the heels use a modified Hart Attack to get the win. Great fast paced back and forth match and I’m throwing this on the nominee block. Mid-South Tag Titles: Wendell Cooley & Al Perez © vs. Ted DiBiase & “Dr. Death” Steve Williams (10/27/85) This was JIP for some reason and looked really fun. I’m pretty sure there will be a complete house show match between these teams on this. The Bruise Brothers (Mad Dog Boyd & Porkchop Cash) vs. Eddie Gilbert & The Nightmare (11/24/85) I just watched these two teams face other earlier in the day so I know what to expect here but will I be surprised. Once again Chop & Gilbert were good but their partners not so much and this match was very similar to the other one although it was longer but it was a little bit better. Bruisers get the win over the champs in a non-title match to set up a title match down the road. National Heavyweight Title: Terry Taylor © vs. “Dr. Death” Steve Williams (11/24/85) Terry is on his way back to Mid-South and makes probably the only defense of this title in the area and he would go on to lose the title 4 days later at Starrcade 85. No love lost between these two men so this should be a fun match. Some really good matwork early in the match with both men looking sharp until Doc starts laying the shots in at the 5 minute mark. Doc doing the suicide drill headbutting Taylor in the chest was awesome. The match had a cool finish as Doc tried for the Oklahoma Stampede but Taylor rolled over when he hit the mat and got the 3 count. This was a really good technical match and a maybe nomination from me. Hacksaw Duggan vs. Buzz Sawyer (11/24/85) This is JIP about 5 minutes into the match and that sucks because these two have some really solid matches against each other. This one had double juice and looked great ending in a double countout in a wild brawl that kept on going after the bell. I think that we need to throw this on as an extra. Butch Reed vs. Dick Slater (11/24/85) Once again another fucking JIP match that looked really good.
December 17, 200717 yr comment_5425455 Gilbert v Falk Amused at start of this where Gilbert and Falk shook hands as I thought "fuck I'm going to watch this match as a face v face match". Gilbert is heel and maybe equally absurd to see Falk as babyface. entertaining little match up. Sweetan v Dutch Fun lil matchup. Way below belonging on a set but got me pretty stoked up for the Memphis. “Mad Dog” Buzz Sawyer & “Mr. Unpredictable” Dick Slater vs. The Fantastics (Bobby Fulton & Tommy Rogers) (10/27/85) This belongs on a set. Annoying as fuck that we don't have crowd noise but still belongs on a set. Slater and Buzz are a great tag team and just a nasty nasty finish. The Bruise Brothers (Mad Dog Boyd & Porkchop Cash) vs. Eddie Gilbert & The Nightmare (11/24/85) This sucked. I really like their nominated match and shocking how bad this is. The nightmare and gilbert's stoogeing at the beginning is really great. And the collision into splash finish is fun. but everything else in between is blown. Terry Taylor © vs. “Dr. Death” Steve Williams (11/24/85) I liked this a bunch. Doc looks really great for large points. for some reason at one point Taylor decides to step with both feet right on Doc's face which felt completely unwaranted. Fun match with a bunch of good points but gets a little too chinlocky. And not really that satisfying finish.
December 17, 200717 yr comment_5425456 Both Gilbert v. Falk and Sweetan v. Dutch were fun matches but below disc level “Mad Dog” Buzz Sawyer & “Mr. Unpredictable” Dick Slater vs. The Fantastics (Bobby Fulton & Tommy Rogers) (10/27/85) Sawyer and Slater are a brutal fucking tag team, they were killing the Fantastics here. Sawyer especially, even Dark Journey was working stiff. Awesome finish, and this should make a list. Totally hurt by lack of crowd noise though. Terry Taylor © vs. “Dr. Death” Steve Williams (11/24/85) This was fine, but a little slow, and was killing my wrestling buzz a bit. Not as good as Dutch v. Sweetan
