The Grappler vs. Cocoa Samoa (5/12/82)

Grappler uses a great looking shoulderbreaker here. Cocoa looked good here too with his headbutts. Grappler used an interesting finisher as he stretched Cocoa’s arm out and drove him down like a bulldog headlock.

Spotlight on “Precious” Paul Ellering (5/12/82)

This has got to make the extra pile as Paul is such a douche and he was trying to be a face. Ellering has some kids in the ring and has them do situps to be like him all while “Let’s Get Physical” by Olivia Newton-John plays in the background. Jesse Barr & Buddy Landell being Paul’s assistants here is also great.

One Man Gang vs. Mr. Olympia (5/12/82)

Gang with long hair here and Olympia wearing a swank mask that looks like a Destroyer mask but silver trim not red. Gang just pounds on Olympia here but Olympia uses his speed and great punches to weaken the Gang. Olympia uses a dropkick off the top rope and knocks Gang to the floor. Akbar comes to the ring and protests that it’s a DQ so Olympia starts beating on him. Gang then hits a big elbow on Olympia for the win. Fun little match.

“Capt. Redneck” Dick Murdoch vs. Kim Duk (5/12/82)

Yep the great Tiger Toguchi/Tiger Chung Lee/Kim Duk has been brought into Mid-South by Skandor Akbar to take care of guys like Murdoch. Murdoch is working a goofy Marine gimmick here but still has his tough ass reputation. During the match, Watts pimps a new wrestler on the way to Mid-South named “Dr. Death” Steve Williams. Akbar goes for Murdoch’s trenching tool in his knapsack and accidentally hits Duk then Murdoch got it and used it on Duk himself for the win. Fun match all because of Murdoch.

Iron Mike Sharpe vs. Billy Starr (5/12/82)

Starr would go on to become Hillbilly Festus years later in the Georgia indy scene.

The Assassin & Bob Roop vs. Ted DiBiase & “Big Cat” Ernie Ladd (5/12/82)

This is quite the mixed bag and a team of Assassin & Roop really intrigues me. I was really into the DiBiase/Roop exchanges and Roop hit an awesome high knee. Assassin looked great too throwing dropkicks although DiBiase turned one into a Boston Crab. DiBiase got Roop in the figure-four and Roop is the one that had the counter for it but couldn’t do it so Assassin broke it for him. Assassin loaded the mask and headbutted Ladd. It all broke down from here after a ref bump as One Man Gang ran in and Ladd speared him out of the ring. The Grappler then showed up in an Assassin mask and nailed DiBiase for the 3 count. This was a fast paced sprint and great stuff just not long enough to warrant a nomination but I wouldn’t mind it for an extra.

The Turk (Ali Bey) vs. Buddy Landell (5/12/82)

Budro looked fine and the match ended in a draw.

Another spotlight with Precious Paul (5/12/82)

This is another definite extra on the set as Paul was so awesome here doing pushups with kids and had the kids along with two fat chicks on his back. Barr & Landell returned as his helpers.

“Capt. Redneck” Dick Murdoch vs. Ricky Ferrara (5/12/82)

Murdoch looked good here.

The Assassin vs. Buddy Landell (5/12/82)

2 of my all-time favs and it’s a shame we don’t have any of Assassin’s work from the 70’s. Assassin uses a loaded boot to trick people from the previous show. Assassin’s finishing sequence was great as he was a master at the hammerlock and used it perfectly.

Bob Roop vs. Cocoa Samoa (5/12/82)

This was a really fun match as Cocoa worked his ass off and Roop was his usual great self. Roop murdered him with his high knee lift and followed with a legdrop to win.

“Big Cat” Ernie Ladd vs. Kim Duk (5/12/82)

This wasn’t bad but it wasn’t good either.

The Grappler & One Man Gang vs. Jesse Barr & Iron Mike Sharpe (5/12/82)

Not a bad match.

Mr. Olympia vs. Billy Starr (5/12/82)

Olympia looked great as always.

Ted DiBiase vs. The Turk (Ali Bey) (5/12/82)

Turk hung with DiBiase for a while.

All three of these are fun but none are set worthy.

“Capt. Redneck” Dick Murdoch vs. Kim Duk (5/12/82)

I remeber liking a couple Kim Duk matches from W*ng, but I have no idea what Karl Gotch sees in him.

The Assassin & Bob Roop vs. Ted DiBiase & “Big Cat” Ernie Ladd (5/12/82)

Assassin hits a shockingly good drop kick and this was also loads of fun but beneath being worthy of going on set. And really this match makes me vote "no" on DiBiase v Orndorf. I didn't like the Dibiase v Orndorf match but love the whole Roop/Ordndorf/Roop three way TV title angle. Love the working on a reversal story. The whole Orndorf comes up with reversal story was cooler than the actual match...and thought you kind of needed it on the set. Here they do the Dibiase finds a way to counter the counter and it's awesome conceptually, a great angle, and a super fun match but still think beneath being on a set. If cool angle in fun match stays off, than cool angle in less fun match should stay off too.

Oh yeah and where else did Ali Bey work? Him and Coco Samoa were the mini superstars of this DVD. I want to see them matched up.
