Posted August 16, 200718 yr comment_5420732 07/12/85 Ric Flair vs. Wahoo McDaniel (18:05) This was pretty fucking awesome Wahoo just pastes Flair directly in the face with chops, Flair eats a nasty posting and bleeds all over the place, plus fires back on Wahoo. Really more violent then most Flair matches. Slam dunk pick, although it isn't really a Mid-South match 1980s Steve Williams & Ted DiBiase vs. Hector & Chavo Guerrero (steel cage match) (14:46) This was pretty fun, with nice bumping by the Guerrerros, it didn't blow me away though, seems like it should be on the set, but I thought it was the least of these three matches 07/20/84 The Midnight Express & Jim Cornette vs. The Fantastics & Hacksaw Jim Duggan (22:27) This is a ton of fun as it is all MX comedy spots, and Cornette hit and runs. Cornette is awesome as the manager you want to see get killed, it is hurt a little by Duggan never really getting to smash him

Although at one point I was convinced that Flair broke Wahoo's nose too. Goes on. 1980s Steve Williams & Ted DiBiase vs. Hector & Chavo Guerrero (steel cage match) (14:46) This was pretty fun, with nice bumping by the Guerrerros, it didn't blow me away though, seems like it should be on the set, but I thought it was the least of these three matches Fun match with plenty of blood but didn't do a ton for me. Chavo is great, Hector not in a bunch, no real heel in peril section but super fun Chavo gets a hold of loaded glove section. Goes on set but underwhelming. 07/20/84 The Midnight Express & Jim Cornette vs. The Fantastics & Hacksaw Jim Duggan (22:27) This is a ton of fun as it is all MX comedy spots, and Cornette hit and runs. Cornette is awesome as the manager you want to see get killed, it is hurt a little by Duggan never really getting to smash him Yeah this isn't really a Fantastics match or even a Duggan match this is an all MX shtick match and it rules. Really Cornette is a big part of the MX and this is the most Cornettish of the MX matches as he is a weasily motherfucker that you want to see beat up. Whole match is built around Hacksaw wanting to get hold of Cornette, and you never get the payoff. I mean Cornette takes an enormous bump getting tossed in the ring but doesn't get touched really after that bump.
December 10, 200717 yr comment_5424993 NWA World Heavyweight Title: “Nature Boy” Ric Flair © vs. Chief Wahoo McDaniel (7/12/85) This was a great hard hitting match with Wahoo just waylaying Flair and Flair taking it like a man. Flair also gives almost as much as he takes and it makes you wish that their stuff from the late 70’s was on video complete. Easy nomination. Steel Cage Match for the Mid-South Tag Titles – SR: Al Madril: Ted DiBiase & “Dr. Death” Steve Williams © vs. Chavo & Hector Guerrero (7/26/85) This was similar to the Superdome cage match 3 weeks later and even had the special referee turns heel gimmick like that one. Hector with the blond hair was a great touch and looked like the Mexican Ric Flair from 1991. The Guerreros dominated a good chunk of the match but Chavo would take quite the beating from the champs and juiced heavily. I loved the sequence where Chavo stole the black glove by just stomping the hell out of his hand then getting the glove and using it on DiBiase. The match is really going now as the Guerreros are taking it to the champs when Madril asks for the glove from Chavo then does a really slow count on a Chavo pin attempt on DiBiase. Madril would then load up the glove and KOed Chavo for the finish. The Sweetan finish was definitely better than this one and that match compared to this one was also better. I wanted to find a way to move this forward but I couldn’t. Hacksaw Duggan & The Fantastics (Bobby Fulton & Tommy Rogers) vs. The Midnight Express (“Loverboy” Dennis Condrey & “Beautiful” Bobby Eaton) & Jim Cornette (7/20/84) MX & Cornette were awesome here and they had great opponents for this type of match. Sure the finish was screwy but this was a long-term feud so it was fine in the long run. Easy nomination.
