Posted August 18, 200718 yr comment_5420813 Produced:8-23-85 • Mark Ragin & Wendell Cooley vs. “Dr. Death” Steve Williams & “Bruiser” Bob Sweetan Fun competitive squash, kind of setting up next weeks match, I really like the Sweetan/Doc Death team • Tommy Rogers vs. “Dirty” Dutch Mantell Good TV match with a spectacular Mantell snap suplex, a step below a disc match, but good shit Produced:8-30-85 Man what a great TV show • The Fantastics vs. Pat Rose & Jerry Gray This was surprisingly more competitive then a normal squash match, as Rose and Gray got in a bunch. • “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan vs. One Man Gang These two work really well together, and even though this was short it was a slugfest from jump street, I am going to nominate this. I loved all the stuff with the chain and the post match was really great. • Al Perez & Wendell Cooley vs. Dr. Death & Bob Sweetan This is your big tag title upset, and is a really great match, really long for a TV match with Cooley and Perez gaining more and more confidence, I dug all the early amateur stuff with Doc and Perez, and the ending was a great clusterfuck anything goes finish. Great, great match and a slamdunk • “Hacksaw” Butch Reed vs. The Nightmare Damn this was pretty fun too, not as good as the other two matches, but pretty good big guy slugfest. • Jake “The Snake” Roberts & The Barbarian vs. Wayne Lavinski & Larry Clarke 30 second squash with Snake and Barbarian clearly pissed about losing their title shot.
November 29, 200717 yr comment_5424669 Hacksaw Duggan vs. Mike Scott (8/14/85) Squash. “Hacksaw” Butch Reed vs. Jerry Grey (8/14/85) Jake & Barbarian come out before the match challenging for a shot at the title and we have a standoff with Jake holding Barbarian back. They leave the ring and Reed wins the match fairly easily. The Barbarian & Jake “The Snake” Roberts vs. The Bruiser & Carl Styles (8/14/85) Squash. “Bruiser” Bob Sweetan & “Dr. Death” Steve Williams vs. Wendell Cooley & Mark Ragin (8/14/85) This was a really good competitive match as Cooley is getting showcased here in preparation for what will happen on the next TV taping. “Superstar” Bill Dundee vs. Dale Williams (8/14/85) Dundee is starting his heel turn as he was pinned by a midget the week before. This match is there to further the angle Dundee had going on with Bobby Fulton. This is great stuff with Little Coco coming out in the Dundee outfit. Al Perez vs. Brodie Chase (8/14/85) Another spotlight match for Perez. Tommy Rogers vs. “Dirty” Dutch Mantell (8/14/85) More continuation of the above. This was like a singles version of their tag series with Rogers taking a good beating and making a great comeback. Dundee would show up when the action was hitting it’s peak and grabbed the top rope when Rogers was kicked out of an O’Connor Roll. This set off another Fants/heels brawl. This was a really fun TV match and I loved this feud. The Fantastics (Bobby Fulton & Tommy Rogers) vs. Jerry Grey & Pat Rose (8/28/85) Fants looked great here and this was a damn good match. Bounty Match: Hacksaw Duggan vs. One Man Gang (8/28/85) This was a great slugfest with both men throwing bombs especially Duggan. Duggan throws a nice clothesline to set up his comeback then hits the spear but Akbar would get involved and Gang would use the chain for the DQ. Gang would choke Duggan with the chain but he would climb up top and hit a forearm smash to break it. Duggan then got the chain and started pounding Gang & Akbar out of the ring. This was a fun brawl but it was short and Gang wasn’t as good here as he was a year later. I’ll have to say no on this one. Mid-South Tag Titles: “Bruiser” Bob Sweetan & “Dr. Death” Steve Williams vs. Wendell Cooley & Al Perez (8/28/85) Barbarian & Jake come out wanting their shot at Doc & Sweetan and it’s made for next week but the fly in the ointment is in the ring on the other side. This is one of the longest TV matches ever that goes through a couple of breaks and it is a damn good match with everyone looking great. The underdog story of Cooley & Perez who never teamed on TV before until this match was great. The whole finishing sequence was really good and the fans loved it. Definite nomination. Mid-South TV Title: “Hacksaw” Butch Reed © vs. The Nightmare (8/28/85) This was a really good match for the Nightmare as this is his type of match being that it was a slugfest. Nightmare would load up the mask and headbutted Reed but Reed would backdrop him out of a piledriver attempt then hit the diving shoulderblock for the victory. Fun match. The Barbarian & Jake “The Snake” Roberts vs. Larry Clark & Wayne Lavinski (8/28/85) These guys are pissed so this is a mega squash.
