Magnum TA video to Sweet Dreams by The Eurythmics which was sorta like the Terry Taylor video set to Freeze Frame which happens to air later in the show. (2/15/84)

 

Contract signing between Junkyard Dog & Magnum TA for a shot at JYD’s North American Heavyweight Title. Mr. Wrestling II is behind Magnum and is in the early stage of his heel turn telling JYD he can beat him and would put his mask up against the title. II is such a bitter bastard here and is fucking tremendous in this role. Magnum tears up the contract saying that it is tearing apart his friendship with II. This was great stuff and a definite extra.

 

The Midnight Express (Dennis Condrey & Bobby Eaton) vs. “Jumpin” Joe Savoldi & George Weingroff (2/15/84)

 

MX are in the very early stages of their run and look great here with awesome double-team moves and Condrey uses the Bamm Bamm Slam for the win.

 

Nikolai Volkoff vs. Steve Brinson (2/15/84)

 

Before the match Volkoff sings the Russian National Anthem of course but it’s totally different than the one he used in the WWF. Brinson doesn’t have a chance.

 

“Nature Boy” Buddy Landell & Wendi Richter vs. “Leaping” Lanny Poffo & Princess Victoria (2/15/84)

 

This is quite the matchup here. Landell was early in his heel run and showed the signs of what he would become in the ring.

 

Mid-South TV Title Tournament: “Hacksaw” Butch Reed vs. Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart (2/15/84)

 

Reed jumped Anvil at the bell and the war is on as there is a lot of hatred here between the former partners. Some really good back and forth action here with both men looking good. Neidhart hit a nice Samoan Drop for a nearfall as Reed had his foot on the bottom rope. Both men collide and Reed put some knux on his hand and KOed Neidhart to get the win. Very good match.

 

The Rock n Roll Express (Robert Gibson & Ricky Morton) vs. Jerry Grey & Tom Lintz (2/15/84)

 

This week 2 of their run in Mid-South and the fans love them already.

 

Krusher Darsow vs. Mike Jackson (2/15/84)

 

Darsow starts pounding on Jackson before Terry Taylor comes out along with RnR Express and with help from Jackson they paint Krusher in red paint before Volkoff runs them off.

 

Jim Ross interviews Magnum TA at ringside (2/29/84)

 

TA announces that he is giving II his title shot and II takes offense to that saying he doesn’t need a gift and slaps TA not once but twice as II is trying to get him to fight him in the ring. TA tells him that won’t wrestle him and walks off which brings Bill Watts out. Watts tells II that Magnum is loyal but II thinks he is gutless. II tells Watts that he can take anyone and beat the MX. This is just great stuff.

 

The Midnight Express (Dennis Condrey & Bobby Eaton) vs. John King & Joe Savoldi (2/29/84)

 

II comes out and tells Savoldi to leave the ring and he would team with King to prove what he said earlier was true. Once again MX look so great here and Condrey uses the Bamm Bamm Slam once again. II comes in the ring and takes on the MX by himself before Eaton whacks him with the tennis racket. Magnum comes out to make the save but gets jumped by Krusher who rams him into the ringpost. MX continues to beat on II until they get run off.

 

Mid-South TV Title Tournament: Krusher Khruschev vs. Magnum TA (2/29/84)

 

Krusher wants to win by forfeit but Magnum comes bandaged up and bloody bringing the fight to Krusher. Krusher begins to work on the cut and then puts Magnum in a Canadian Backbreaker as II comes out trying to tell Fergie that Magnum should forfeit. Magnum countered the backbreaker into a pinning move as II throws in a towel “by mistake.” Watts interviews II after the match and II said that he saved Magnum from being killed.

 

“Nature Boy” Buddy Landell & “Hacksaw” Butch Reed vs. Mike Jackson & Jason Walker (2/29/84)

 

YES, Landell & Reed together quite possibly my favorite short lived team ever goddamn were they great in every way. Jackson takes a beating like a champ here and gets offense in even an enzuigiri on Reed. Landell gets the win with the corkscrew elbow on Walker.

 

Terry Taylor vs. Jerry Grey (2/29/84)

 

Pretty good little match as Grey was a nice worker.

 

The Rock n Roll Express (Robert Gibson & Ricky Morton) vs. Randy Barber & Steve Brinson (2/29/84)

 

They air the fucking awesome Bruise Brothers video from Memphis but they edited out the fucking kiss by Dream Machine on the black chick. I guess Watts didn’t want any jungle fever on his TV. Dream Machine shooting craps in the alley way in the Memphis ghetto and collecting the money was so fucking great. Them walking by Woodstock High School and throwing books in the air was also great. Jimmy Hart showing up and putting the money they won in a big bag with $ on the bag was phenomenal. This is a definite extra on the Memphis section.

Reed v. Neidhart was pretty close to a nomination, another couple of minutes or better finish it would have made it, I wish we had the footbal helmet match in full. The II + Magnum stuff is fucking amazing.
