Posted August 24, 200718 yr comment_5421109 “Superstar” Bill Dundee & “Dirty” Dutch Mantell vs. The Fantastics (Bobby Fulton & Tommy Rogers) (9/8/85) What a great feud this is because it all started because of a strut and Fulton pisses Dundee off everytime he shakes his hips or does anything. Dundee giving the Tulsa fans shit from the corner is great calling them rednecks. Dutch is a bumping machine here for Rogers and wants to go for his bullwhip but Tommy Gilbert stops that. The heels are really working Memphis style here with their stalling and stooging around and the crowd hates their fucking guts which is great. The early part of this match is all about the Fants getting the best out of the heels basically embarrassing them and the heels being complete chickenshits. They fake walking to the back and try to sneak attack the Fants but that doesn’t work either. The tide finally turns when Dutch chunks Fulton out of the ring to the floor with Fulton landing hard and it looks like Fulton may actually have hurt himself. Rogers chunks him in the ring and Dutch picks Fulton up for the MX for the abrupt finish. This was some really fun stuff up until the finish which looked really rushed and Joel Watts focused on the back of Fulton’s head and I see why, there is a serious gash there. El Corsario (Savio Vega) vs. Wendell Cooley (9/8/85) Once again Corsario is Savio Vega and Cooley’s push is starting to kick in here. Nothing much here but Corsario gets the win with a superkick. “Maniac” Mark Lewin vs. “Hot Stuff” Eddie Gilbert (9/8/85) Now this is a styles clash as Gilbert was in a babyface role which was short lived against the Maniac. Lewin just pounds on Gilbert and uses a nerve hold on the back of the head and that was Lewin’s basic offense. Gilbert makes a comeback though and the crowd gets really into it but Lewin nails Gilbert in the chest with a foreign object and goes back to his nerve hold which lasted forever. Gilbert once again tried a comeback but Lewin squashed that and hit a diving foot stomp to win. Boring match. “The Modern Day Warrior” Kerry Von Erich vs. The Nightmare (Randy Culley) (9/8/85) Kerry was actually a good opponent for Nightmare and this wasn’t a bad match but it wasn’t that hot either. Kerry used a 180 splash off the top rope ala his brother Kevin to get the win. “Gentleman” Chris Adams vs. Brian Adias (9/8/85) This is a World Class match. Adias was a guy who got work and a push mainly because he was a friend of the Von Erich family. He was never a really good worker but when he went up against guys like Adams they made him look good. Adams gets the win in a really quick match with a sunset flip cutback using the ropes for leverage. Mid-South TV Title: “Hacksaw” Butch Reed © vs. The Barbarian (9/8/85) Reed jumps Jake before the bell, which leaves him open to the attack by Barbarian. Barbarian dominates Reed with his power moves. Reed finally makes a comeback out of a bearhug and uses the soupbones to take care of business. Jake eventually trips up Reed as he runs the ropes and Barbarian chunks him to the floor. Reed gets back in the ring and hits his shoulder block for the win. Barbarian & Jake work on Reed after the match but it falls apart after Jake accidentally hits Barbarian and they get in a shoving match afterwards. Decent match. Lord Humongos vs. “Hot Stuff” Eddie Gilbert (9/22/85) Gilbert’s chances look really bad here and Humongous jumps him right at the bell before finishing him off in about a minute with the Shennomake. Loser gets 10 lashes: The Fantastics (Bobby Fulton & Tommy Rogers) vs. “Superstar” Bill Dundee & “Dirty” Dutch Mantell (9/22/85) Now this is more like it with hopefully no abrupt finish. The heels attack the Fants as they make their way around the ring and the war is on. This is a wild brawl to start the match with the heels getting the advantage by knocking the Fants to the floor. This is really different from their match earlier on the disc as the work is more heated and the OKC fans are really into it trying the rally the Fants anytime they are down. Dutch is once again a bumping machine and Fulton once again loves to shake his hips. They try to have a regular match but it keeps breaking down into a 4-way brawl. The heels use the strap to choke out Rogers every chance they get as Tommy Gilbert gets distracted and Dundee doing his strut for the fans is great. Rogers really takes a beating here like a fucking man bumping like crazy and the heels really work their ass off the keep him from making the hot tag making the fans go nuts. Fulton finally gets the hot tag and is a house of fire thus kicking off another 4-way brawl but of course there is a ref bump but Dutch accidentally hits Dundee off the top rope with a diving knee and Fulton covers for the win. Dundee is hilarious trying to get out of being strapped doing the strut and trying to shake Fulton’s hand with a big ass smile on his face that was met with a fist. Dundee convinces Dutch to take the straps for him but since Dundee lost the fall he has to do it. Dundee still tries to beg his way out of it but there is no hope for him and he takes the first lash from Fulton and jumps him. Dutch then throws powder in Fulton’s eyes and Dundee starts whipping Fulton then knocks out Tommy Gilbert but the Fants eventually comeback and run the heels off. This was a extremely fun match and post-match was even better, a definite nomination. Ted DiBiase vs. Tony Falk (10/1/85) This is a rare match from the Centroplex in Baton Rouge. DiBiase just squashes Falk. Jake “The Snake” Roberts vs. The Barbarian (9/22/85) This should be interesting as the turn finally happened and Jake is a full fledged face. The Tulsa crowd is rocking as Jake attacks Barbarian before the bell and just beats his ass for a bit before trying to slam Barbarian and failing. Jake takes quite a beating here with Barbarian using all of his regular spots to weaken him down. Jake finally gets the upperhand after hitting his kneelift and the Tulsa fans go nuts chanting DDT. There is a ref bump after a leapfrog by Jake that looked bad but Jake followed up with his DDT and as he goes for the pin here comes Lord Humongous & Sir Oliver Humperdink for the DQ finish. Okay match before the finish and Jake hits quite the gusher bleeding all over the floor.

A shame this got cut off, this was going gangbuster untill the end. Mantell and Dundee were killing me with stalling and stooging. Scanned through these, didn't look like anything special, I really hate the Reed v. I loved the cross up finish, and fuck did Dundee have some spectacular flying offense. Plus even if this match sucked, the post match shtick would make it a disc selection. Bill Dundee is god.
