Hacksaw Duggan, “Capt. Redneck” Dick Murdoch, & “Cowboy” Bill Watts vs. Kamala, Mr. Kareem Muhammad, & “General” Skandor Akbar (7/22/85)

Akbar tries to get Dr. Death to replace him in the match but that doesn’t happen as Grizzly Smith throws Doc out and the brawl is on. This was what Jim Ross would call a slobberknocker as the faces just pound the piss out of the heels especially Murdoch with his elbows and Duggan/Watts with their punches. A huge “WE WANT AKBAR” chant breaks out from the New Orleans fans as they want to see his ass kicked. Akbar finally gets his on the floor as Watts throws him into a Duggan/Murdoch double shoulderblock after his partners each got the same treatment before him. Murdoch gets the heat section here as the heels take turn beating his ass especially Akbar who gets Murdoch in his Camel Clutch but tags Kamala in soon thereafter. Duggan & Watts decide they can’t take no more of Murdoch getting his ass beat so they come in the ring and the 6-way brawl is on until The Nightmare comes running out and tries to piledrive Murdoch on the floor but Murdoch backdrops him. The action goes back into the ring where Watts bodyslams Kamala to win the match. The brawl continues after the match as the faces WALK TALL and knock the heels out of the ring everytime they enter. This was great fun but there is a rematch later on this disc so we will see which one is better although I have no problem with this one being on the block.

Al Perez vs. Mark Ragin (7/28/85)

These matches are from a big outdoor crowd in Tulsa. This was a really good scientific match with Perez getting the win.

One Man Gang vs. Wendell Cooley (7/28/85)

Cooley tries to hang with the Gang but he basically gets destroyed.

The Barbarian vs. Brickhouse Brown (7/28/85)

This was like the previous match as Barbarian was just too much for Brick.

The Fantastics (Bobby Fulton & Tommy Rogers) vs. “Hot Stuff” Eddie Gilbert & Jerry Grey (7/28/85)

Gilbert was stuck in low-card hell during this time. Gilbert & Grey do some of the Fants’ spots to make them mad and it works. The fans are giving Grey shit and the Fants play it up by going out there and chanting with the fans, which is hilarious. This was a total Memphis style of tag match and the fans were loving the Fants being smartasses. When the heels got their heat section they worked pretty good as a team. I loved the finish with Fulton having Grey in a front chancery then Rogers jumping over with the sunset flip for the win. This was a really fun match and I wouldn’t mind it if it was a low-end nomination.

Jake “The Snake” Roberts vs. Ted DiBiase (7/28/85)

The crowd is totally nuts for Jake here. I love the early part of the match because it plays into the fact that DiBiase & Jake are trying to outsmart each other because they were known as two of the best chess players in the business. They do a lot of the same stuff they do when they start their tag matches around this time and there was a spot here when Jake had DiBiase in a headlock and DiBiase rolled over and referee Tony Torres actually counted three but no one noticed. Teddy does all his usual stuff during the heat section and Jake does a great job selling. Jake makes his comeback firing his rapid punches which was great before Teddy threw him into the referee. DiBiase then goes to load his glove but drops his object and Jake nails him with the DDT for the win. I loved the finish and this was a fun match. Nomination on my end.

“Hacksaw” Butch Reed vs. “Dirty” Dutch Mantell (7/28/85)

Reed comes into the ring brandishing a steel chair but is forced to get rid of it. Reed had just taken Dutch’s TV title 6 days ago and the bad feelings are still there. Dutch gets a lot of offense early in the match basically dominating it but Reed soon takes control using the soupbones but as he runs the ropes he hits the referee. Dutch goes for his bullwhip and clocks Reed with it before covering him but Reed kicks out at 2. Reed gets the advantage back hitting his flying shoulder block and press slam for the win. Good match but nothing spectacular.

Hacksaw Duggan, “Capt. Redneck” Dick Murdoch, & “Cowboy” Bill Watts vs. Kamala, Mr. Kareem Muhammad, & “General” Skandor Akbar (7/28/85)

Okay the entrance was fucking awesome as Duggan & Murdoch came out riding on the back of a fucking monster truck, just an awesome visual and the crowd was going apeshit. Akbar tries to pull the same shit he did in New Orleans by trying to get The Nightmare to sub for him but the fans chant bullshit and the result is the same. This starts in a wild brawl with the faces WALKING TALL and knocking the heels out to the floor. The heels really take a beating here especially Akbar and the crowd is going apeshit. Murdoch is really awesome here as he just delivers the punches and elbows and even stomps on Kamala’s nuts but like the New Orleans match, he takes just as good of a beating from the heels and once again it turns into a 6-way brawl. Duggan hits his spear on Kamala and Watts hits the slam for the win. Nightmare comes in after the match and gets his ass kicked for good measure. This was basically the same as the New Orleans match but the crowd heat was far superior and the monster truck entrance was great also. Great fun and a definite nomination.

Mr. Kareem Muhammad & One Man Gang d. Larry Clark & Mike Thorn (8/28/85)

Squash city.

Bob Sweetan & Steve Williams vs. Jimmy Backlund & Mark Ragin (8/28/85)

Backlund would grow up to become “Gigolo” Jimmy del Ray but here he just gets squashed along with Ragin.

Wendell Cooley & Al Perez vs. Jerry Grey & Carl Styles (8/28/85)

The new tag champs win a decent match.

“Hacksaw” Butch Reed vs. Wayne Lavinski (8/28/85)

Squash.

Hacksaw Duggan, “Capt. Redneck” Dick Murdoch, & “Cowboy” Bill Watts vs. Kamala, Mr. Kareem Muhammad, & “General” Skandor Akbar (7/22/85)

Kris is correct about only needing one of these matches, but I am not positive which one. I think I liked the outdoor match more, but Tomk liked this one. This had more amusing chickenshit Akbar, although I wasn't in love with the superflous Nightmare run in.

The Fantastics (Bobby Fulton & Tommy Rogers) vs. “Hot Stuff” Eddie Gilbert & Jerry Grey (7/28/85)

This was fun, and I really enjoyed Grey getting a showcase for what he could do. Fantastics really aren't the R+R's when it comes to shitck though, and Eddie was actually a little subdued. I am going to say no.

Jake “The Snake” Roberts vs. Ted DiBiase (7/28/85)

This did have a great finish, but the body of the match didn't really do a ton for me. I am going to go no with this one. Fun, but I imagine we will find 150 better

“Hacksaw” Butch Reed vs. “Dirty” Dutch Mantell (7/28/85)

I may have liked this more then the DiBiase v. Roberts match, still not a nomination, but fuck was Reed's clothesline and press slam great.

Hacksaw Duggan, “Capt. Redneck” Dick Murdoch, & “Cowboy” Bill Watts vs. Kamala, Mr. Kareem Muhammad, & “General” Skandor Akbar (7/28/85)

Yeah this was awesome, Kamala at one point wastes Murdoch with a elbow smash, I loved the finish of this too with Duggan spearing Kamala into the Oklahoma stampede. This is the kind of match I love.

Yeah I liked this one alot more. We probably only need one of the two on the set and my vote would be for this one. This one was built more around Akbar hiding and faces and crowd wanting to get their hands on Akbar and the pops built around that. Murdoch does a great job selling for Muhammad's punches (I mean fuck Murdoch may be bettter at eating a punch than he is at throwing one) and Muhammad gets off his high elbow.

The match story of faces having to get past the monsters of devestation Inc inorder to get their hands on Akbar makes for a more interesting match than just faces beating up evil foreighners (and foreign sympathizers).

The ref bump in Dibiase v Snake was really nasty and I liked the object loosened in glove retrieval into DDT finish but I think both are represented better elsewhere.

Dutch Mantell gets a ton of offense on Reed. While I love seeing Dutch booked strong I don't get why he would be at this point. Dutch v Reed feels like a maybe for me.

Wrestlefest main event is the lesser of the two six mans as far as I'm concerned but had a really high end performance by Kimala . Just bumping around getting covered with the arena sand, hitting nice strikes (the nasty back elbow that Phil mentions) and his dive onto Murdoch to cut off the tag is a great cutting off tag spot.
