Posted September 4, 200718 yr comment_5421450 Terry Taylor v. Killer Tim Brooks Man does Killer Tim Brooks suck. Taylor tried, but shit Tim Brooks is ass. Fabulous Ones v. Guerrerros JIP, and a step below the level a JIP match would need to be get on a set, when we have the Texas Death already. Still I love all of Hector's breakdance escapes to lead to the hot tag, and Stan Lane is a great cocky fuck. Dick Murdoch v. Ted DiBiase This is JIP too, but it is good enough to make a set. Basically a brawl, but man are the punch exchanges great, both guys bleed, and Murdoch just kills DiBiase with rabbit punches, and shots to the back of the head with a chair. I kind of like the loaded glove as a face move. They air this twice on this batch of TV, with the second time showing more Butch Reed vs. Dick Slater (12/27/85) This is JIP, but we get most of it, your basic quality Slater v. Reed match, with Slater bumping all over the ring for Reed's hambones. I love the Slater corner flip bump. Seems weird to have Slater get two pins on Reed which he apparently was all over the circut, but this was fun. Masked Superstar vs. Al Perez I love me some Masked Superstar, but this was JIP and too short to make a list, still Masked Superstar motherfucker. Misty Blue vs. Linda Dallas This was funish, I remember reading about Linda Dallas in mark mags, but had never seen her before, she was pretty good, is their a Dallas v. Jaguar match making the next set?
November 26, 200717 yr comment_5424540 Terry Taylor vs. Killer Brooks (12/29/85) Not good. Mid-South TV Title Tournament: “Mr. Unpredictable” Dick Slater vs. “Dr. Death” Steve Williams (12/18/85) This started out really even and it was great seeing Doc starting his babyface run and the Tulsa crowd going apeshit for him. Slater would get the advantage and looked really strong keeping Doc on the ground but he couldn’t lock in a Boston Crab on Doc because of his lower body strength which was awesome. Doc threw an awesome forearm that had Slater rockin then a headbutt as the Fairgrounds goes nuts. Slater would come back though and would get Doc in a sleeper that Doc would get out of by running Slater into the turnbuckle. Doc would hit two running tackles on Slater but Slater would headbutt Doc sending them both to the mat. Slater would go for the figure-four but Doc would punch him off then would hit a suplex followed by the Oklahoma drill for a nearfall. Doc would hit the Stampede but Slater’s foot was on the ropes so Doc pulled him out for a Boston Crab but Dark Journey raked Doc’s eyes. Slater would go to suplex Doc but he would reverse then Slater would reverse with an O’Connor Roll with tights to get the win. This was a blast and a definite nomination. “Hacksaw” Butch Reed vs. Mike Scott (12/18/85) Squash. Mid-South Tag Titles: “Hot Stuff’ Eddie Gilbert & The Nightmare © vs. The Bruise Brothers (Mad Dog Boyd & Porkchop Cash) (12/18/85) Fun match but definitely not a nomination. Mid-South TV Title Tournament – Semifinals: Jake “The Snake” Roberts vs. “Mad Dog” Buzz Sawyer (12/18/85) Buzz trying to bite Jake in the chest early on was great and as soon as Jake got the advantage the Tulsa crowd started chanting DDT loudly. Buzz took an amazing bump to the ringpost that Jake worked on immediately with an armbar off and on for quite a while. Buzz would throw Jake to the floor though where he landed on his arm wrong and Buzz went after him while selling his own arm. Buzz would choke Jake on the bottom rope then suplexed him back in the ring for a nearfall before going to work with a reverse chinlock. Jake would catch Buzz with an atomic drop but Buzz would lock back on the chinlock after Jake missed a diving elbow drop. Jake used his jawbreaker to break out of that then started firing the punches before hitting his high kneelift. Jake went for the DDT but Buzz kept fighting it and threw Jake over the top rope for the DQ finish as he attempted it. This was a fun match but it didn’t feel like a nomination on my end. Lord Humongous vs. Perry Jackson (12/18/85) Squash. Ricky Gibson & Al Perez vs. Rob Rechsteiner & Ricky Starr (12/18/85) Squash. Ted DiBiase vs. “Capt. Redneck” Dick Murdoch (12/29/85) This was a great bloody brawl with both men throwing some outstanding punches and some great chairshots. I agree with the loaded glove as a face motif as it added something extra to a babyface character. Definite nomination. DiBiase & Doc announce their face turn to the fans in Tulsa and Ross tells a story how Doc saved a man’s life in a car wreck. Ted DiBiase & “Dr. Death” Steve Williams vs. Shawn O’Reilly & JR Hogg (1/1/86) Squash. “Mad Dog” Buzz Sawyer vs. Perry Jackson (1/1/86) Squash. Masked Superstar & “Capt. Redneck” Dick Murdoch vs. Steve Doll & Tommy Wright (1/1/86) Squash. Terry Taylor vs. The Nightmare (1/1/86) Taylor takes care of his unfinished business in his return to Mid-South. “Mr. Unpredictable” Dick Slater vs. “Hacksaw” Butch Reed (12/29/85) Reed wins he gets Dark Journey for 30 days and this is JIP 10 minutes in. Slater’s dancing around before his punches were great. I agree with Will in that this was a little slower than the normal matches between these two which is odd considering this is the end of the feud. Reed took quite a beating here from Slater before making his big comeback. Reed would hit a flying clothesline that really started his comeback and Slater’s bumping and selling for Reed’s soupbones was great as usual. Slater would come back though for a piledriver attempt that Reed would backdrop him out of then hit his own piledriver with Slater rolling to the apron. Reed would start firing punches on Slater in the corner but Slater picked up his legs and cradled him for a 3 count with the ropes. Tommy Gilbert finds this out though and demands Slater come back to the ring. The match restarts and Reed is throwin the bones then ties Slater in the ropes so he can slap him before engaging in a slugfest. Slater would try to redo the earlier finish again but Gilbert caught him and pulled him off. Reed would try for a diving shoulderblock in the corner and missed with Slater getting a nearfall but got pushed on top of Gilbert. Slater would then KO Reed with some knux given to him by Dark Journey and got the win. Al Perez & Brett Sawyer vs. Broadway Joe Malcolm & Gustavo Mendoza (1/1/86) Squash. Masked Superstar vs. Al Perez (12/29/85) JIP and Superstar looks good. Mid-South TV Title Tournament – Finals: Jake “The Snake” Roberts vs. “Mr. Unpredictable” Dick Slater (1/1/86) Slater demands to stay in the tournament even after winning the North American title earlier on the tapings. This was fucking great as both men just went out and hauled ass working like madmen for their styles. Jake looked really good in his comeback and Slater was just as good at taking it. The DDT finish was tremendous especially with Jake getting the pin on the new NA champ. Definite nomination. “Mad Dog” Buzz Sawyer vs. Steve Doll (1/1/86) Squash but the angle after the amtch is a definite extra as Butch Reed comes out to confront Sawyer but Murdoch comes out after him and jumps Reed giving him a brainbuster on the floor. “Hot Stuff” Eddie Gilbert vs. Tommy Wright (1/1/86) Squash. Terry Taylor vs. Lord Humongous (1/1/86) This is Humongous’ swan song as Taylor is back getting a push so he does a clean job for Taylor. Ricky Gibson, Al Perez, & Brett Sawyer vs. JR Hogg, Broadway Joe Malcolm, & The Nightmare (1/1/86) Good little match. Ted DiBiase vs. Gustavo Mendoza (1/1/86) Teddy looks great. Murdoch runs in at the finish and we have a wild brawl with Superstar & Doc also getting involved. Murdoch cuts an awesome promo about everyone. Mid-South Tag Titles: Ted DiBiase & “Dr. Death” Steve Williams © vs. “Hot Stuff” Eddie Gilbert & The Nightmare (1/19/86) DiBiase & Doc come out in OU jerseys in Tulsa, which is great. Gilbert takes some hellacious bumps against Doc and he tags Nightmare in quickly. Doc & Nightmare try to match power but Doc wins that battle as he presses Nightmare over his head easily. Gilbert’s sell of DiBiase’s diving fist drop was so great and him starting the heel control section with a clothesline on Doc was just as great. DiBiase gets the hot tag pretty quickly and the 4-way brawl is on with DiBiase hitting his powerslam on Nightmare then tried the figure-four but Gilbert knocked him off. DiBiase would get the O’Connor Roll on Nightmare though with Doc cutting off Gilbert to win the match. Fun competitive match with everyone but Nightmare looking great. Slater & Dark Journey are in the ring talking shit until Jake comes out to interrupt him Jake calls her a jezebel and Slater jumps him from the back but Jake would hit him with a high kneelift and DJ sprayed something in Jake’s face. Jake was blinded and he DDTed Dark Journey as the Tulsa crowd went absolutely insane. Humongous pop and this is a definite extra. The Fabulous Ones (Steve Keirn & Stan Lane) vs. Steve Doll & Ricky Gibson (1/19/86) Squash. “Mad Dog” Buzz Sawyer vs. Broadway Joe Malcolm (1/19/86) Squash. Al Perez & Brett Sawyer vs. Masked Superstar #2 (Kelly Kiniski) & “Capt. Redneck” Dick Murdoch (1/19/86) This had a great start with Perez & Sawyer taking it right to the heels as the Tulsa fans go wild and give credit to the heels for bumping and selling hard for the underdog team. You can tell the difference in the Superstars as Kiniski was slimmer and had shorter hair under the mask. The heels would look dominant on offense but the underdogs look great and almost always had the edge. Murdoch would get so frustrated that he would get a steel chair to attack Sawyer for the DQ. The finish was fucking great in my opinion because the heels had to resort to using a chair to save themselves because they were afraid they were going to get beat. This is a definite nomination.
