Posted September 6, 200718 yr comment_5421548 “Jumpin” Joe Savoldi vs. The Libyan (8/3/86) Savoldi makes his debut and looks fine winning with the O’Connor Roll. Another great Joel Watts video of DiBiase & Doc set to Living In America by James Brown. Terry Taylor vs. Jeff Raitz (8/3/86) Raitz makes his debut in UWF and there is a handshake before the match. Taylor looks good here. After the match, DiBiase came out and started brawling with Hayes at the announce stage running him off. Gustavo Mendoza vs. Bobby Perez (8/3/86) Mendoza gets a spotlight match and looks good. The Fantastics (Bobby Fulton & Tommy Rogers) & The Missing Link vs. “Hot Stuff” Eddie Gilbert, Sting, “Hollywood” John Tatum (8/3/86) It’s hilarious as the Fants try to get Link to go along with them as they kiss the girls and he looks confused as he walks around. The brawl starts early in the match with Link & Tatum on the floor and the Fants taking care of Gilbert in the ring. Tatum took a great bump after a Link headbutt to the chest as did a flip over the guardrail on the concrete. Tatum takes a good beating from everyone and sells like a champ competing with Gilbert in that department as he was awesome as well. Fulton works FIP here and takes a great running clothesline by Gilbert who is bleeding and some more punishment before tagging Rogers which sets off a 6-way brawl and IT’S BREAKING LOOSE IN TULSA. Missy & DJ then get involved in the match and Missy accidentally hits Hot Stuff and Rogers hits the elbow smash for a 3 count. Gilber rolls back in the ring and is gushing blood. Really fun stuff. Joe Savoldi vs. Gustavo Mendoza (8/17/86) Both men looked good here and that’s the thing about Watts, his jobbers were not your average jobbers as they can go. Savoldi used a botched Misteriorana with Mendoza landing head first on the mat. Savannah Jack vs. Ken Massey (8/17/86) SAVANNAH FUCKING JACK!!!!!!!, Jack was a cool ass heel but wasn’t the best of workers. The Fabulous Freebirds (Terry Gordy & Buddy Roberts) vs. Brett Sawyer & Gary Young (8/17/86) Birds look great here and Hayes even gets a shoutout to Channel 36 in the ATL which I love. Gordy hits the Bamm Bamm Slam on Young then try on Sawyer for a DQ because the referee told them not to do it. DiBiase & Doc hit the ring and IT’S BREAKING LOOSE IN TULSA as they clean house on the Birds. They try for a spike piledriver on the floor before Hayes joins in and they try for a spike piledriver on him but Roberts breaks it up. Insane brawl that should be an extra this was awesome. More goodness with Tatum/Gilbert/Missy as Gilbert & Missy arrive in a limo together as Tatum waits with Jim Ross and of course that leads to a little fireworks. UWF Tag Titles: “Hot Stuff” Eddie Gilbert & Sting © vs. The Fantastics (Bobby Fulton & Tommy Rogers) (8/17/86) Gilbert & Fulton have history and they start off against each other in a rapid punching exchange before Gilbert starts stooging around but Rogers cleans his clock from the apron. Sting gets in the ring and eats a tremendous dropkick from Rogers before the match goes to break. The match comes back and Sting & Gilbert have started their control section and John Tatum walks out to the ring. Gilbert & Sting do a great job of keeping Tommy Gilbert from seeing Fulton tagging Rogers but it ends up being a wild 4-way brawl. Gilbert & Fulton collide in mid-air as they try a cross body block as Rogers & Sting brawl on the floor. Hot Stuff tries to use the Gucci purse but hits his dad and he fights with Missy as Tatum runs in the ring and throws powder in Fulton’s eyes. Gilbert then hits a german suplex for the win. Tommy Gilbert comes back after the break and says that he is going to hold the belts up due to the screwiness of the finish. Very solid 8 minute match and a probable nomination for me.
