Posted September 7, 200718 yr comment_5421587 Ted Dibiase & Steve Williams vs. Dick Murdoch & Masked Superstar 2/14/86 Long slow building title match, this really felt like a big main event, and all four guys were great here. Murdoch and Superstar are an awesome team, and Murdoch is constantly trying to kill DiBiase with rabbit punches. I would have liked to see a better finish, but this feels like one of the better Houston matches. Jake Roberts vs. Dick Slater 2/14/86 This is a different no DQ match then the other one nominated, but is also very good, JIP with Jake already bleeding. I loved Jake taking the tape off of his wrist to jab Slater with, also all of the extra curricular stuff with Journey was fun. Sheepherders vs. Chavo & Hector Guerrero This was a short fun brawl, but nothing particularly noteworthy, there is an awesome top rope shoulder breaker by the Sheepherders though Ted DiBiase/Steve Williams/Terry Taylor/Hacksaw Duggan vs. Dick Murdoch/Buzz Sawyer/Masked Superstars 2/28/86 This was another really fun 8 man war. Who was the second Masked Superstar? Murdoch ruled this again with his comedy, he is really Arnish in how he can stay intimidating even as he stooges. Sawyer is great here too, as are all of the faces. Good shit. Sheepherders v. Ricky Gibson/Tracey Smothers A little more competitive then most Sheepherders matches at this point. Fun, but not a selection Eddie Gilbert v. Koko Ware 2/28/86 Totally Memphis match, with Gilbert breaking out a ton of great heel shtick (pulling the tights on the ab stretch, hugging Taras Bulba) and Koko showing great babyface fire, including some awesome comeback punches. I loved this, and am nomming it.
November 28, 200717 yr comment_5424606 Mid-South Tag Titles: Ted DiBiase & “Dr. Death” Steve Williams © vs. Masked Superstar #2 (Kelly Kiniski) & “Capt. Redneck” Dick Murdoch (2/14/86) This is a great match here with everyone looking really solid and the usual of DiBiase getting his ass kicked in this series setting up the big comeback was great here. This got a lot of time and it felt right with Will being right that it actually could’ve gotten more time and there would be no problem. Easy nomination. Next up is Battle of the Belts II which should be fun for when we get to the Solie section. Eddie Gilbert retires from pro wrestling to concentrate on managing Tarras Bulba and others he would be bringing in. The Sheepherders (Butch Miller & Luke Williams) vs. Ricky Gibson & Al Perez (2/11/86) Squash. Mid-South Tag Titles: Ted DiBiase & “Dr. Death” Steve Williams © vs. Masked Superstar #2 (Kelly Kiniski) & “Capt. Redneck” Dick Murdoch (2/11/86) Gotta love Murdoch doing the Hook Em Horns in OKC. Superstar in the past two matches looks like Kelly Kiniski in the gimmick, not completely sure though. There was some great bumping going on here by the heels especially during the football blocking section. Superstar trying to out football Dr. Death was great and Murdoch baiting Doc into trying the same thing but hitting him with a back elbow was tremendous. The heels do a number on Doc but he gets a quick hot tag and DiBiase starts firing punches on Murdoch before hitting the powerslam following up with the figure-four. Doc hits the spear on Superstar but the REAL Superstar hits the ring for the DQ. Murdoch and the Superstars destroy Doc & DiBiase with the real Superstar’s loaded mask. Doc juices and they get thrown to the floor. Koko Ware vs. Shawn O’Reilly (2/11/86) Another good showing for Koko. Kortsia Korchenko vs. Perry Jackson (2/11/86) Korchenko’s TV debut. David Peterson & Brett Sawyer vs. Mike Scott & Rick Steiner (2/11/86) Fun match with the undercarders. Hacksaw Duggan vs. Gustavo Mendoza (2/11/86) Another fun match. RnR vs. Fabs is up next and I have that in full to watch later. Chavo & Hector Guerrero vs. The Sheepherders (Butch Miller & Luke Williams) (2/14/86) Sheeps take the Fabs’ spot here as they were snowed in in Nashville. This was a good little brawl but that’s about it. Ted DiBiase, Hacksaw Duggan, Terry Taylor, & “Dr. Death” Steve Williams vs. The Masked Superstars (Bill Eadie & Kelly Kiniski), “Capt. Redneck” Dick Murdoch, & “Mad Dog” Buzz Sawyer (2/28/86) This is just an awesome match that no more needs to be said about. The comedy alone makes this match a must because the guys look like they are having fun. The Sheepherders (Butch Miller & Luke Williams) vs. The Bruise Brothers (Mad Dog Boyd & Porkchop Cash) (2/11/86) This is just an assbeating by the Sheeps as the Bruisers are on their way out of the territory. “Mad Dog” Buzz Sawyer vs. Al Perez (2/11/86) Buzz had been talking shit on Perez for a few weeks now and Perez has had enough. Perez hangs in there with Buzz even hitting his German Suplex for a nearfall. Buzz would recover though and started pounding on Perez but missed a diving elbow drop off the second rope. Perez started working on Buzz but when he went for a reverse 180 splash off the middle, he was caught in a mega powerslam. Fun match. The Masked Superstars (Bill Eadie & Kelly Kiniski) vs. Steve Doll & David Peterson (2/11/86) Squash although Peterson got some offense in. Tarras Bulba vs. Tracy Smothers (2/11/86) Destruction. Ricky Gibson & The Rock n Roll Express (Robert Gibson & Ricky Morton) vs. Shawn O’Reilly, Rob Rechsteiner, & Mike Scott (2/11/86) Good to see the Gibson’s back together. Scott sucks so bad he fucked up the finish by not kicking out of a dropkick and letting Tommy Gilbert count three. Funny story about the RnR being on this taping, WWF ran a show in OKC on the same day so Crockett lent out the RnR to counter. Needless to say the Myriad show did way better business. Koko Ware vs. Gustavo Mendoza (2/11/86) Koko hit one of the greatest dropkicks ever here. This match should be a definite extra. The kids mobbing Koko was an awesome sight. #1 Contender Match for the North American Heavyweight Title: Terry Taylor vs. Jake “The Snake” Roberts (2/11/86) Jake’s last TV match and it’s funny to see Taylor get booed in OKC. These two had unfinished business from before Taylor left so this should be interesting. This was a game of human chess as they were trying to outthink each other and both men tried to avoid the other one’s finisher. Taylor would strike first as he hit him with the five-arm and Jake went all the way to the floor. Taylor was really sharp here as he was keeping Jake on the mat but Jake would reverse a wristlock into his short clothesline. Jake then takes it to mat and works a headlock but Taylor would reverse that into a backbreaker. Taylor missed a diving elbow and Jake destroyed him with a high kneelift. Both men would trade shots until Jake nuked him with the DDT but Taylor would get his foot under the rope as Jake rolled him the wrong way. Taylor would roll to the floor and as Jake let him in, he caught him with another high kneelift but missed another one. Taylor then locked in an inside cradle for the victory. This was a really solid match and a definite nomination. It was at this point though that Taylor would lose his job as booker because Watts didn’t want Taylor to be champ at this time. The Sheepherders (Butch Miller & Luke Williams) vs. Ricky Gibson & Tracy Smothers (2/28/86) The faces get more offense than normal on the Sheeps. Koko Ware vs. “Hot Stuff” Eddie Gilbert (2/28/86) I loved their TV match and this one is even better. This was just a great match that was a lot of fun with both men shining in their own way. Easy nomination.
