Gustavo Mendoza v. Brett Wayne Sawyer 5/9/86

I remember liking this match when I first watched it a couple of years ago, but I don’t remember it being this good. Just a solid 15 minute match, starting with some very cool mat exchanges and standing switches, and moving into some pretty big moves for an undercard match, Mendoza is a good bumper, and sells the leg really well. Sawyer has a great dropkick. Disc pick for sure

I didn't love this match, when it was a straight tag, but the bloody brawl section of it was really great. Totally out of control finish, with Fulton hurling really wreckless chair shots, and all four guys biting and ripping at open wounds. This is the craziest of the Fans v. Sheepherders matches I have seen, so should make the set.

Magnum TA v. Ted DiBiase 7/6/84

Man alive was this great, the best of their three matchups IMO. Started out with wrestling, but busted out into a bloody brawl, TA takes some of the nastier post shots I have seen. It was cracking along until the top rope broke and then it got even better, DiBiase teases the War Games finish with the post hook, and does an especially nasty hot shot on the second rope. This was awesome stuff and might finish in my top 10.

Gustavo Mendoza v. Brett Wayne Sawyer 5/9/86

It is inexplicable why I like this this much. I remember when I bought this tape from video store going out of buissness and this was my favorite of the three matches. I don't know if we have a lot of this type of long undercard scientific stuff. Mendoza eats tuff really well has neat standing switches, amusing highflying offense and sells the leg really nicely. Sawyer works the mat well and has the fast dropkick and this builds well and has a nice finish. Almost feels like a touring match as the two just really good at being the foil for the other. I remember at one point finding a (I think) JCP match whewre the two were in a handicaped match against GRerat Kabuki, and I want to say it was worked like a touring indy three way dance (ie Sheely and Jacobs do some signature exchanges before selling for local talent)... Jim Ross can't tell one hispanic from another and calls Mendoza Chavo Guerrero. What more do you want?

Crowd heat was full blast and the post match is really good. Actual match was hit and miss. They do a rope running criss cross section at one point where it looked like no one knew how to run the ropes. We've seen a lot of Fulton face in peril and I've thought he did more with face in peril role elsewhere. As here he just bleeds clenches his fists and clenches his face.

Magnum TA v. Ted DiBiase 7/6/84

This should easily go on. Lots of both guys taking huge bumps. Neat seeing how they respond to the rope break as I liked both the grabbing the hook and the hot shot. Dibbiasse did whip TA into the ropes which seemed really illadvised thing to do after a rope breaks. Gordy may be smarter when it comes to working with broken ropes, but Dibbiase seemed more clever.

Brett Sawyer vs. Gustavo Mendoza (5/9/86)

This was a damn good match between the two best undercarders in the UWF at this time. Both men looked great here getting a chance to shine against each other.

The Fantastics (Bobby Fulton & Tommy Rogers) & Terry Taylor vs. The Sheepherders (Butch Miller & Luke Williams) & Jack Victory (5/9/86)

I had this JIP on the Bollom stuff so this is full. This is a brawl at the bell as the faces come in and clean house and the fans were really hot for this along with the whole match in general. The heels bump all over the place early in the match as the faces just dominate them. Taylor doing the Fantastics strut was great. The tide would turn when the Sheeps would use the flagpole on Fulton jabbing him in the head causing him to juice heavily. The match really picks up here as the heels are just ruthless working on Fulton’s cut and Rogers & Taylor do their damndest to help ward them off. Fulton fights them off when he can but they are just too dominant. Rogers would finally get the hot tag and the 6-way brawl is on with Fulton getting his second win and just going nuts on whoever he can get his hands on. There is brawling on the floor and in the ring with Rogers pounding Miller with a steel chair busting him open then Taylor hits Williams with the five-arm but Tommy Gilbert isn’t there for a count. Tommy Gilbert calls the match as it’s too nuts but it doesn’t stop these guys as they just keep beating the shit out of each other. Fulton then starts swinging chairs on the Sheeps as everyone brawls everywhere. This is one of the damndest brawls we have on this and this should definitely move forward.

North American Heavyweight Title: Magnum TA © vs. Ted DiBiase (7/6/84)

I loved their Oklahoma series so this should be no different. This started out being a really good even all-action match before DiBiase would take control by slamming Magnum on the floor then on the ringpost. DiBiase would work over Magnum relentlessly especially his back even using a bearhug which is a move DiBiase doesn’t normally use. Magnum would send DiBiase to the floor in a counter of a DiBiase chinlock which would give Magnum time to recover and make a comeback. The crowd was really into this but we would have a double collision that would send Magnum back to the floor. DiBiase would post Magnum hard a couple of times causing him to juice then slammed him on the railing before putting the boots to him and rolling him back in the ring. DiBiase continued to work on Magnum but Magnum would get a nearfall on an inside cradle. DiBiase though would continue to work on Magnum’s cut as the top rope has borken on one side of the ring. Magnum would reverse a DiBiase piledriver into a backdrop then started making a fiery comeback. Magnum would throw DiBiase into the corner making the rest of the top rope fall so DiBiase adlibbed by picking up the loose rope and trying to beat Magnum with the hook but it would be reversed and he got it instead. Magnum then continued pounding on DiBiase as the ring crew would fix the top rope but in the middle of this DiBiase would give Magnum a great Hot Shot on the middle rope. DiBiase would then load up the glove and missed a diving fistdrop off the second rope then ate a belly-to-belly for the pinfall. This was a tremendous match and a slam dunk nomination.
