The Missing Link & Dark Journey vs. “Hollywood” John Tatum & Missy Hyatt (9/5/86)

This is from Houston and is a pretty fun match. Missy was quite the sight in the ring.

Ted DiBiase & Chavo Guerrero vs. Rick Steiner & Jack Victory (9/5/86)

Steiner & Victory are still coming into their own here but Steiner shows some good heel charisma here to go along with his power game. DiBiase & Chavo work really well together as a team here. This got a good bit of time and the heels got a good chunk of offense here, which at this time in their career they needed matches like this to make them look good and Chavo was a great FIP. The sequence where DiBiase got the hot tag was really great and when he got in there he really unloaded. Chavo throwing Victory into DiBiase as he was locking in the figure-four sending him to the floor then pinning the fallen Victory was a great finish especially considering Chavo wasn’t the legal man. DiBiase pounded on the heels more after the match. I’m on the fence on this match being a nomination as it was really solid.

The Libyan vs. The Glassman (9/14/86)

Squash.

Dr. Death & Bill Watts visits the University of Oklahoma football team and this is a great video to show before the next match.

UWF Heavyweight Title: Terry “Bamm Bamm” Gordy © vs. “Dr. Death” Steve Williams (9/14/86)

Doc comes in like a fuckin madman so the tone has been set for this match already being an all-action brawl but they start out though on the ground playing to Doc’s amateur background. Man there were some great punches thrown in this one and the work in general was just some great big-man fighting, like Phil said earlier the prototypical Bill Watts type of match. I loved the psychology of the piledriver that was used here with Doc trying to give Gordy his own medicine and he hit some great ones. Gordy juicing was choice and his agility missing the 180 splash off the middle rope on Carl Fergie was tremendous. The whole finish with the referees was and the double pin was great just because that wasn’t a real common finish then. Jim Ross was also great on this on commentary getting the whole deal over. A tremendous match and a slam dunk nomination.

The Hyatt/Hot Stuff International breakup angle plays out next and everyone is great in this.

“Bad Bad” Leroy Brown vs. Bobby Perez (9/14/86)

Squash and I loved Leroy in Georgia too bad he would die a year or so later.

Michael “PS” Hayes vs. Iceman King Parsons (9/14/86)

DiBiase comes out with Iceman in his return match to Wattsland to counter Buddy Roberts. The match only goes for a couple of minutes before TV time runs out as Hayes whips Iceman with the strap.

Rick Steiner vs. Gary Young (9/86)

Not a bad match from Houston.

Iceman Parsons vs. The Libyan (9/86)

Another fairly good match.

“Jumpin” Joe Savoldi vs. Jeff Raitz (9/14/86)

Spotlight match for Savoldi.

Buddy Roberts vs. Bobby Perez (9/14/86)

Squash.

UWF TV Title: Terry Taylor © vs. One Man Gang (9/14/86)

Savannah Jack is wearing his fuckin boss colorful outfit to the ring with the Gang. This had a good bit of actual wrestling early in the match with Taylor keeping the Gang grounded where he would be at the advantage but of course that wouldn’t last long. Taylor would get the advantage back though after botched interference by Savannah Jack and Taylor locked in the sleeper but Leroy Brown jumped Taylor for the DQ. Taylor got destroyed by Devastation Inc. until DiBiase, Iceman, & Chavo made the save.

Valet For A Day is next and of course this is an extra.

Chavo Guerrero & Iceman King Parsons vs. Rick Steiner & Sting (9/14/86)

Steiner & Sting are starting to grow as a team and as wrestlers period. Match was going fine until Tatum & Victory hit the ring and it turns into a wild brawl with Missy Hyatt trying to get them to stop.

2 out of 3 falls for the vacant UWF Tag Titles: The Fantastics (Bobby Fulton & Tommy Rogers) vs. “Hot Stuff” Eddie Gilbert & Sting (9/21/86)

JIP in the 1st fall from Houston. This is some really good stuff but these two teams had some solid matches. I loved that the Fants just wouldn’t stay down in the 1st fall and it took a diving headbutt by Sting off the top rope to the back of Rogers’ head for them to lose the fall. 2nd fall starts with more of the heels beating on Rogers who sells it greatly. Rogers fights his heart out to get the hot tag and finally got it with Fulton getting the quick fall with the O’Connor Roll to win the 2nd fall. 3rd fall starts with a great punching exchange between Fulton & Gilbert. Fants have the advantage for most of this fall and it is going great until Tatum & Victory come out and the 4-way brawl is on. Tatum & Victory send Gilbert & Sting to the back so the Fants jump them in response. This was a really solid match with a bad finish although it’s understood why they did that.

Chavo Guerrero vs. Savannah Jack (9/86)

Decent match with Chavo looking good and helping Jack get through the match because at this time Jack was mostly all gimmick but he showed signs that he could work. Akbar gets in the ring for the quick DQ then Gang jumps in and crushes Chavo until DiBiase, Missing Link, & Taylor make the save.

Iceman King Parsons vs. Art Crews (9/28/86)

This is the first UWF taping from Little Rock and making his debut with Iceman is “Gentleman” Chris Adams who decides to bury World Class subtly until Akbar comes out and challenges Adams to a match against Savannah Jack. The match finally starts and Iceman wins.

The Missing Link vs. Gustavo Mendoza (9/28/86)

Squash.

“Gentleman” Chris Adams vs. Savannah Jack (9/28/86)

Battle of the Superkicks here. Adams looks good here until Akbar runs in for the DQ. Jim Ross keeps calling Jack a “procurer” and I guess his gimmick was he got drugs off a boat in Savannah.

“Bad Bad” Leroy Brown vs. Jeff Gaylord (9/28/86)

Squash.

No DQ falls count in both rings for the UWF Tag Titles: The Fantastics (Bobby Fulton & Tommy Rogers) vs. “Hot Stuff” Eddie Gilbert & Sting (9/28/86)

The reason why there is two rings is because there was a dark 2-ring battle royal after the taping Tatum & Victory come out before the match and challenge the winners for a title shot. Fantastics are not wearing the same colors which is pretty odd considering they always matched. Fants dominated the early part of the match and looked pretty good but the heels used an illegal double team then Fulton would soon get posted where he got busted open. Rogers got the hot tag and looked good before he would get posted too and bladed obviously on camera, which I’m sure that Watts loved. Fants won the match on a botched finish and the Fants in general seemed like they were in another place in this match at times. Fine match but not nearly as good as their others.

Ted DiBiase vs. Jack Victory (9/21/86)

This is from Houston. Victory does a great job here of taking a beating from DiBiase who does a great job in dishing it out. Victory would soon get the advantage and DiBiase juiced probably from an old cut and Victory went to work on it hard with some good punches. DiBiase made a brief comeback using his awesome punches but Victory cut him off by sending to the floor grabbing him by the tights and throwing him through the ropes. The finishing sequence had a couple of botched moves but the match was still really good.

UWF Heavyweight Title: Terry “Bamm Bamm” Gordy © vs. One Man Gang (9/21/86)

Gang comes to the ring waving his awesome pirate flag. The basic storyline of this feud was that Gang was the reason that Gordy won the title because he injured Duggan before their match in the finals. Gordy is playing babyface here and this just starts out as big-man battle to see who is the strongest. Gordy uses punches and a running clothesline to finally get the Gang off his feet and as Gordy runs the ropes, Akbar trips him up which gives Gang the quick advantage. Gordy juices after Gang starts biting at his head and Gang spends the next few minutes working on that cut both in and out of the ring. After they get back in the ring, Gordy makes his comeback using some great punches with one sending Gang over the top rope to the floor. Gordy then posts the Gang who juices himself and starts going after Akbar before the action goes back to the ring. Both men are bleeding profusely now and Gordy goes for a piledriver but Gang sends him running into Carl Fergie before Gang sends Gordy into the other turnbuckle and he hit so hard it broke the top rope. Gang then just fell out of the ring as Gordy sets up for the Oriental Spike which he locks on but Akbar comes in the ring and he gets KOed. Gordy & Gang then just start trading punches with Fergie trying to break them up and they throw him away a few times to cause a DDQ. This was a tremendous match and a slam dunk nomination.

“Gentleman” Chris Adams vs. Gustavo Mendoza (9/28/86)

Michael Hayes basically calls World Class the USFL on commentary. Adams used a great Superkick to win.

They show a video of the faces hanging out at the Tulsa State Fair which is so great.

UWF Heavyweight Title: Terry “Bamm Bamm” Gordy vs. Steve “Dr. Death” Williams (9/28/86)

Hacksaw Duggan makes his return to the UWF after a tour of New Japan and he challenges the winner of the match for a shot at the title. Michael Hayes left for the ring during the break and they showed what happened with Hayes going to get Duggan out of the ring, which started a huge brawl between all 4 men. Akbar then comes down with Leroy Brown & One Man Gang who attack Duggan leaving Doc to get double-teamed. Gordy holds Doc’s left arm on the railing and Hayes jumps off the apron on the arm. Jim Ross says that the match will not happen but sure enough Doc comes back with his arm bandaged and he’s ready for action. Gordy immediately start working on the injured arm but Doc fights through the pain and uses headbutts on the ground to keep Gordy off of him but Gordy is relentless and just keeps working on the arm. Doc makes a comeback though with more headbutts and great right hand punches following it up with a spear. Gordy to his credit though continues to work on the arm but Doc continues to show bravery continuing to fight back at spots. Doc gets Gordy down with a fireman’s carry and then a double clothesline take both men down. Gordy climbs up top and Doc press slams him off with one hand and hits an ugly body press for a nearfall. Doc then hits two big spears on Gordy to take him down and then hits a one-handed piledriver using the trunks for another nearfall. Doc hit another clothesline for another nearfall and then throws Gordy into the ropes where he does a semi-Flair bump just hanging on the top rope until Doc knocks him off. The fans in Little Rock right now are going apeshit over this whole situation and then Hayes shows up again before being cut off by Ronnie West as Doc gets another nearfall. Doc sees Hayes while Gordy puts brass knux on his hand and KO’s Doc for the victory. This whole scenario was so fucking great and Jim Ross sealed the deal on commentary. Just fantastic stuff with Doc putting on a tremendous performance working with one arm and this is a slam dunk nomination.

Bill Apter presents Bill Watts the PWI Editors Award for WALKING TALL in so many words.

Iceman King Parsons & The Missing Link vs. John Tatum & Jack Victory (9/28/86)

Eddie Gilbert is on commentary for this and lusts over Missy. Iceman looked really good here with his chop that took the spit out of Tatum and some nice dropkicks. Tatum is so great at selling a beating with his facials and body movements. Iceman is in basically the whole match as he was on offense early in the match and then became the FIP taking the punishment from the heels. Iceman finally gets the hot tag on Link who starts destroying the heels with headbutts as Dark Journey chases Missy around the ring. TV time runs out as the women get involved.

Steel Cage Match: Steve “Dr. Death” Williams vs. Michael “PS” Hayes (9/21/86)

This is JIP from Houston and both men have juiced at where we pick it up. They really put over this cage on Houston TV for the past few weeks as the best cage in the business and that it was retired for years before Doc demanded to meet every Freebird in it. This is good stuff with Hayes taking quite a beating and Doc just looking great. Funny hearing the fans from Houston chant “OU” at Doc. Doc wins with a diving shoulder block off the second rope. Gordy gets in the cage after the match and they beat on Doc until DiBiase makes the save before Hayes takes care of him using a leather strap. Fans are throwing belts in the ring and DiBiase & Doc use them to clear the ring.

PAS: I am kind of on the fence too, Chavo had a ton of nifty little moves, including an irish whip counter into an armdrag which was beautiful, still there were points where Victory and Steiner looked totally lost, and the VQ on this match really stunk. Fencish sounds about right

PAS: Will should just make a comp of the best broken ring matches in wrestling history. This was two big dudes punching each in the face and bumping like freaks, totally awesome stuff and without a shadow of a doubt a DVD pick

PAS: Doc was really great fighting through the pain, and the totally insane Tulsa crowd really made this. I did think Doc dominated this match a little too much for a guy with one arm, but still a minor point for a great match
