Ted DiBiase & Chavo Guerrero vs. Rick Steiner & Jack Victory (9/5/86)

Steiner & Victory are still coming into their own here but Steiner shows some good heel charisma here to go along with his power game. DiBiase & Chavo work really well together as a team here. This got a good bit of time and the heels got a good chunk of offense here, which at this time in their career they needed matches like this to make them look good and Chavo was a great FIP. The sequence where DiBiase got the hot tag was really great and when he got in there he really unloaded. Chavo throwing Victory into DiBiase as he was locking in the figure-four sending him to the floor then pinning the fallen Victory was a great finish especially considering Chavo wasn’t the legal man. DiBiase pounded on the heels more after the match. I’m on the fence on this match being a nomination as it was really solid.

PAS: I am kind of on the fence too, Chavo had a ton of nifty little moves, including an irish whip counter into an armdrag which was beautiful, still there were points where Victory and Steiner looked totally lost, and the VQ on this match really stunk. Fencish sounds about right

Tom says: I'm also completely on the fence here as I absolutely loved Chavo in here. Possibly the best Chavo face in peril stuff we've seen. Steiner is green but has some impresive power stuff. Jack Victory is green but has fun comedy bumps and for the most part good timing on them. But both guys looked really greeen in lots of places. Dibiase comes in house of fire and Victory is lost not knowing what to do while Dibiase slams Steiner. Steiner looks equally lost while Dibiase is going after Victory. Nice elaborate finish.

Three people all on the fence suggests to me that this is a match that shouldn't make a set. But throwing this out there for others.
