Ted DiBiase & “Dr. Death” Steve Williams vs. The Blade Runners (Rock & Sting) (5/9/86)

This is from Houston and DiBiase & Doc try to carry the Blades to a good match and it was fine but the Blades were still really green here especially Rock. It still was a fun match with a great finish. Jim Ross buries the Blade Runners hard after the match as I guess Rock had left by now and Sting was leaning towards it.

UWF TV Title: Buzz Sawyer © vs. Terry Taylor (5/25/86)

Taylor brings out Chavo Guerrero to counter Rick Steiner at ringside. Buzz bumps his ass off here for Taylor especially on a dropkick where he jumped through the ropes perfectly to the floor. Buzz missed a huge top rope splash landing knees first but Steiner tripped up Taylor and as Buzz had him pinned Chavo put the foot on the rope. Chavo & Steiner brawled on the floor as Taylor countered a suplex into an inside cradle for the 3 count as the Tulsa crowd goes apeshit. Short match but a very fun one although I’m not as high on this one as Phil was, not a nomination on my end because everything just seemed too rushed for me.

North American Heavyweight Title: Hacksaw Duggan © vs. Dick Slater (4/11/86)

This is from Houston and Slater is whining before the match about not losing the title himself so Duggan gets mad and just throws Slater out of the ring. Duggan just mauls Slater at the beginning with his great punches sending Slater out of the ring and over the railing to the feet of the fans. Duggan injures his left arm after he hits the turnbuckle hard after missing a shoulderblock so Slater bases his offense around working the arm. Slater got a lot of offense in and hit a sweet diving elbow off the second rope. Slater locked in the sleeper but Duggan worked his way out of it and it turned into a wild punching exchange with Duggan winning that battle of course. After some Duggan offense, Slater would throw him into the referee but Duggan caught him with a ribshot as he jumped off the top rope and hit a big spear for the win. This was a very good blowoff match to their feud in Houston but there were better between these two.

UWF Tag Titles: The Fantastics (Bobby Fulton & Tommy Rogers) © vs. Michael “PS” Hayes & Buddy Roberts (6/17/86)

This match from Shreveport is a different match as these guys didn’t work against each other on TV. Rogers & Buddy looked fine early on and then it became a battle of struts between Fulton & Hayes. After a while it ended up with Roberts getting his left leg worked over by both Fants. The match comes back from break with Roberts having Fulton in a bearhug and both Birds work over Fulton’s back for a bit. Roberts hit a nice diving elbow off the top rope and continue to double team on Fulton until Rogers comes in after the hot tag. It then ends up being a 4-way brawl and Rogers gets a flash cradle win on Roberts. Fun match but we miss a chunk of the middle where the Freebirds took control.

UWF Heavyweight Title: Terry Gordy © vs. Terry Taylor (6/17/86)

I’m hoping we get the full match here. They start off even early on but Taylor strikes first with a cross body block for a nearfall. Taylor works over Gordy with a grounded headlock with Gordy trying to counter for nearfalls but Taylor maintains control and of course at this time they go to commercial. They come back from break with Gordy now having Taylor in a headlock so we missed another good chunk of a match, why couldn’t they have house show footage unedited from 1986 like 1985. Gordy puts Taylor in a sleeper and takes him to the mat with it but Taylor would put one of his own on with Gordy sending Taylor to the floor though to break it. Gordy keeps Taylor from entering the ring by dropping him neckfirst on the top rope and poses for the crowd. Taylor would soon turn the tables on Gordy and then started his comeback with some great punches. Gordy would do his backflip over the top rope bump and Taylor kept the offense coming but Gordy sent Taylor into the corner and he outdid Gordy’s bump going to the floor. Gordy followed picking up Taylor and dropping him on the security railing. Taylor made another comeback and hit a sunset flip but Gordy fell back on him for the 3 count with some help from the ropes. This was a really good match but missing the middle of the match hurt it in my eyes.

UWF Heavyweight Title: Terry Gordy © vs. Ted DiBiase (6/29/86)

This is JIP from New Orleans and they show this to get over the angle of Doc being spike piledriven on the floor. This looked like a great match as well.

What land of faries and goblins do you live in with the better Slater v. Duggan matches? You say that everytime they match up, but I don't see you actually nominating any of these better matches? Where are they Kris? I think this is damn good, better then their other nominated match. Slater does his crazy Funk bumping, and Duggans spear into the turnbuckle was super nasty. I think this makes it for sure.

UWF Tag Titles: The Fantastics (Bobby Fulton & Tommy Rogers) © vs. Michael “PS” Hayes & Buddy Roberts (6/17/86)

We miss a chunk of this in the middle, but thats the breaks, we get plenty of it to get a sense of the match. Long opening with a great strut off, and then a great Fulton in peril section on with Roberts and Hayes pounding the shit out of his ribs. The top rope elbow by Roberts is great, and it was a fun crazy finish. I liked this a bunch and am nominating it.

UWF Heavyweight Title: Terry Gordy © vs. Terry Taylor (6/17/86)

It seems silly to keep a great match like this off because of a commercial break, when we are putting a ton of matches with commercial breaks on the set already. All of the Doc v. Gordy matches have pieces missing, Windham v. Murdoch has commercial breaks. Seems like a weird double standard. This was possibly a top 20 match, I may have liked this even more then their great match in Houston. Good opening section with both guys going for really slick early pins. Gordy's backslide was especially great. Then you have Gordy just killing Taylor with neckbreakers, both guys taking crazy bumps into the corners, Terry getting murdered on the rail, then him slapping himself concious to make a final run. Slam dunk pick, and I don't know who shit in Kris's wheaties before he watched this disc.
