“Superstar” Bill Dundee & “Dirty” Dutch Mantell vs. The Fantastics (Bobby Fulton & Tommy Rogers) (9/8/85)

What a great feud this is because it all started because of a strut and Fulton pisses Dundee off everytime he shakes his hips or does anything. Dundee giving the Tulsa fans shit from the corner is great calling them rednecks. Dutch is a bumping machine here for Rogers and wants to go for his bullwhip but Tommy Gilbert stops that. The heels are really working Memphis style here with their stalling and stooging around and the crowd hates their fucking guts which is great. The early part of this match is all about the Fants getting the best out of the heels basically embarrassing them and the heels being complete chickenshits. They fake walking to the back and try to sneak attack the Fants but that doesn’t work either. The tide finally turns when Dutch chunks Fulton out of the ring to the floor with Fulton landing hard and it looks like Fulton may actually have hurt himself. Rogers chunks him in the ring and Dutch picks Fulton up for the MX for the abrupt finish. This was some really fun stuff up until the finish which looked really rushed and Joel Watts focused on the back of Fulton’s head and I see why, there is a serious gash there.

El Corsario (Savio Vega) vs. Wendell Cooley (9/8/85)

Once again Corsario is Savio Vega and Cooley’s push is starting to kick in here. Nothing much here but Corsario gets the win with a superkick.

“Maniac” Mark Lewin vs. “Hot Stuff” Eddie Gilbert (9/8/85)

Now this is a styles clash as Gilbert was in a babyface role which was short lived against the Maniac. Lewin just pounds on Gilbert and uses a nerve hold on the back of the head and that was Lewin’s basic offense. Gilbert makes a comeback though and the crowd gets really into it but Lewin nails Gilbert in the chest with a foreign object and goes back to his nerve hold which lasted forever. Gilbert once again tried a comeback but Lewin squashed that and hit a diving foot stomp to win. Boring match.

“The Modern Day Warrior” Kerry Von Erich vs. The Nightmare (Randy Culley) (9/8/85)

Kerry was actually a good opponent for Nightmare and this wasn’t a bad match but it wasn’t that hot either. Kerry used a 180 splash off the top rope ala his brother Kevin to get the win.

“Gentleman” Chris Adams vs. Brian Adias (9/8/85)

This is a World Class match. Adias was a guy who got work and a push mainly because he was a friend of the Von Erich family. He was never a really good worker but when he went up against guys like Adams they made him look good. Adams gets the win in a really quick match with a sunset flip cutback using the ropes for leverage.

Mid-South TV Title: “Hacksaw” Butch Reed © vs. The Barbarian (9/8/85)

Reed jumps Jake before the bell, which leaves him open to the attack by Barbarian. Barbarian dominates Reed with his power moves. Reed finally makes a comeback out of a bearhug and uses the soupbones to take care of business. Jake eventually trips up Reed as he runs the ropes and Barbarian chunks him to the floor. Reed gets back in the ring and hits his shoulder block for the win. Barbarian & Jake work on Reed after the match but it falls apart after Jake accidentally hits Barbarian and they get in a shoving match afterwards. Decent match.

Steve “Dr. Death” Williams vs. “Mad Dog” Buzz Sawyer (2/86)

This is a dark match from a TV taping from what it looks like in Oklahoma City. Buzz complaining about Doc pulling his hair before the match is great. Buzz shows his great hops with two huge leapfrogs but Doc catches him on the 2nd one and turns it into a press slam. There was a fuckin great headlock sequence where Doc carried Buzz with the headlock from the ring to the floor and all the way around the ring back in and not letting go with Buzz using all the heel tricks to try and get out. The tide turned when Buzz threw Doc to the floor and he followed up with slamming him on the railing and then the floor. Buzz showing great strength getting Doc in a suplex from the apron and walking around with him in the air for a bit before dropping him. Buzz then used a grounded bearhug to really weaken Doc but Doc would make a small comeback with some great punches but missed a spear and went flying to the floor. Buzz then smashed Doc’s head on the ringside table and the floor with Doc blading in the process. Buzz would then bite on Doc’s head with blood in his mouth and spit it in the air to the disgust of the fans and Buzz’s mouth was still covered in blood. The Myriad is going crazy now as Doc makes a comeback and starts biting Buzz who pulls out his blade and blades as Doc bites. Both men have juiced and Doc just kills Buzz with a clothesline and starts pounding him in the mount but Buzz knocks him off. Buzz tries to leave the ring but Doc stalks him and they brawl on the floor. Big time clubbering on the floor and Buzz decides to leave when he gets the chance for the double countout finish. This was a fantastic match even with the screwjob finish just great blood and guts action and a definite nomination.

Jake “The Snake” Roberts vs. El Corsario (11/6/85)

Corsario is a jobber at this point and this match is nothing but a showcase for Jake to debut his hockey mask to counter Lord Humongous.

“Nature Boy” Ric Flair vs. “Hacksaw” Butch Reed (11/6/85)

Reed announces that he has bought out Perez’s contract with Flair calling Reed a monkey. This is a fight from the start as Reed gives Flair everything he has but Flair hangs with him and would eventually get the advantage due to Reed’s bad knee. This becomes a TV version of their house show match with everything happening faster and Reed gets the pin with a flying shoulderblock. Slater jumps Reed after the match and they give him a spike piledriver for his pleasure along with a couple of neck snaps. This was a great TV match and a nomination for sure with the angle as the cherry on the sundae.

No DQ: Jake “The Snake” Roberts vs. “Mr. Unpredictable” Dick Slater (2/11/86)

This is a dark match from the TV taping on this card. The North American title isn’t on the line here because it was vacant at this time after a disputed finish in a match between these two on 1/31/86 in Houston. Jake comes out punching at the bell and actually hurts his hand from punching Slater so hard. After some back-and-forth action, Slater gets the first advantage in the match and starts working on Jake’s neck hitting a piledriver after some hesitation by Jake for a nearfall. Jake tries to make a comeback but Slater counters with a swinging neckbreaker but fails in an attempt for the figure-four leglock. Jake takes off his boot and pounds Slater one good time and it’s legal in this match sending him to the floor. Jake becomes relentless by slamming Slater’s head into everything and Slater juices heavily. Jake uses his short left jabs to work on the cut and then the high kneelift. The crowd is wanting DDT but Jake wants to work on Slater’s cut some more and after an accidental ref bump, Slater takes Jake down but Jake comes back for a DDT attempt that Slater just picks Jake up and slams him on his back. Jake chases Dark Journey into the ring and tries for a DDT but Slater goes in his tights and KO’s Jake with some knux for the 3 count. Slater walks out of the ring with the North American title but it’s technically not his. I liked this match a lot even though there were better between these two but I’m going to throw it on the block anyway.

Ted DiBiase, Hacksaw Duggan, & Steve “Dr. Death” Williams vs. Masked Superstar #2 (Kelly Kiniski), “Capt. Redneck” Dick Murdoch, & “Mad Dog” Buzz Sawyer (2/11/86)

Duggan & Buzz start it off and Buzz gets his ass kicked by everyone bumping like crazy and Superstar #2 ate a press slam by Doc for his trouble. DiBiase & Murdoch get tagged in and the Myriad goes bonkers because this is the main feud here and there was lots of hatred here but Murdoch’s selling for the atomic drop basically going into the Fargo Strut was fucking hilarious. Everyone pretty much tags in and out keeping different combinations in there with the faces looking awesome. Murdoch was awesome here trying to get Duggan to form an alliance with him to take out DiBiase & Doc along with Superstar & Buzz. Duggan acted like he would think about it and shakes hands with Murdoch so they decide to work scientific as Buzz is angry at this whole situation but Murdoch whispers in his ear. Buzz tries to grab Duggan to let Murdoch punch him but Murdoch shakes him off and of course Murdoch breaks his deal by kneeing Duggan in the ribs in the corner. Duggan makes him pay for that though with a spear and takes out Murdoch’s partners in the process. DiBiase tags in but Murdoch catches him on the way in with a right hand. DiBiase would get the advantage back though and started working on Murdoch’s left arm before tagging Doc in and that is where the match cut off so imagine my anger. This was headed to becoming a fantastic match but oh well.

The Bruise Brothers (Mad Dog Boyd & Porkchop Cash) vs. Eddie Gilbert & The Nightmare (11/24/85)

I just watched these two teams face other earlier in the day so I know what to expect here but will I be surprised. Once again Chop & Gilbert were good but their partners not so much and this match was very similar to the other one although it was longer but it was a little bit better. Bruisers get the win over the champs in a non-title match to set up a title match down the road.

Steve “Dr. Death” Williams vs. “Mad Dog” Buzz Sawyer (2/86)

Man alive was this great. The leapfrog into the powerslam, the headlocks, the blood, the punch exchanges. This is comparable to the Williams v. Gordy series and will finish way high on my ballot

No DQ: Jake “The Snake” Roberts vs. “Mr. Unpredictable” Dick Slater (2/11/86)

I liked all of Jake's counters when Slater pinned him, grabbing the refs hand, punching out of the bridge. Outside of that, this isn't a very good match. Slater's offense looked off, and the ref bump, foreign object finish is retarted in a No DQ match. With so many better matches between these two, no reason for this to go on.
