Steve “Dr. Death” Williams vs. “Mad Dog” Buzz Sawyer (1/28/86)

This is a dark match from a TV taping from what it looks like in Oklahoma City. Buzz complaining about Doc pulling his hair before the match is great. Buzz shows his great hops with two huge leapfrogs but Doc catches him on the 2nd one and turns it into a press slam. There was a fuckin great headlock sequence where Doc carried Buzz with the headlock from the ring to the floor and all the way around the ring back in and not letting go with Buzz using all the heel tricks to try and get out. The tide turned when Buzz threw Doc to the floor and he followed up with slamming him on the railing and then the floor. Buzz showing great strength getting Doc in a suplex from the apron and walking around with him in the air for a bit before dropping him. Buzz then used a grounded bearhug to really weaken Doc but Doc would make a small comeback with some great punches but missed a spear and went flying to the floor. Buzz then smashed Doc’s head on the ringside table and the floor with Doc blading in the process. Buzz would then bite on Doc’s head with blood in his mouth and spit it in the air to the disgust of the fans and Buzz’s mouth was still covered in blood. The Myriad is going crazy now as Doc makes a comeback and starts biting Buzz who pulls out his blade and blades as Doc bites. Both men have juiced and Doc just kills Buzz with a clothesline and starts pounding him in the mount but Buzz knocks him off. Buzz tries to leave the ring but Doc stalks him and they brawl on the floor. Big time clubbering on the floor and Buzz decides to leave when he gets the chance for the double countout finish. This was a fantastic match even with the screwjob finish just great blood and guts action and a definite nomination.

Steve “Dr. Death” Williams vs. “Mad Dog” Buzz Sawyer (1/28/86) (BB RF1) (22:15)

I don't know what the heel Buzz was thinking when trying to put Doc in a bearhug and Doc makes him pay. Doc was just man-sized here playing homage to Funk-Jumbo while working the headlock and always keeping it interesting early on. BUzz goes back to the bearhug later on after working over Doc on the outside and it works the 2nd time around. Once Doc gets bsted open, things pick up and I love the deuling flesh & blood spitting contest! This was the story of two matches, pre-blood and post-blood and both were entertaining. The finish sucked and I don't know of any grudge match that makes up for it the way Buzz and Duggan ended up in chain matches. Still, an easy nomination.
