No DQ: Jake “The Snake” Roberts vs. “Mr. Unpredictable” Dick Slater (2/11/86)

This is a dark match from the TV taping on this card. The North American title isn’t on the line here because it was vacant at this time after a disputed finish in a match between these two on 1/31/86 in Houston. Jake comes out punching at the bell and actually hurts his hand from punching Slater so hard. After some back-and-forth action, Slater gets the first advantage in the match and starts working on Jake’s neck hitting a piledriver after some hesitation by Jake for a nearfall. Jake tries to make a comeback but Slater counters with a swinging neckbreaker but fails in an attempt for the figure-four leglock. Jake takes off his boot and pounds Slater one good time and it’s legal in this match sending him to the floor. Jake becomes relentless by slamming Slater’s head into everything and Slater juices heavily. Jake uses his short left jabs to work on the cut and then the high kneelift. The crowd is wanting DDT but Jake wants to work on Slater’s cut some more and after an accidental ref bump, Slater takes Jake down but Jake comes back for a DDT attempt that Slater just picks Jake up and slams him on his back. Jake chases Dark Journey into the ring and tries for a DDT but Slater goes in his tights and KO’s Jake with some knux for the 3 count. Slater walks out of the ring with the North American title but it’s technically not his. I liked this match a lot even though there were better between these two but I’m going to throw it on the block anyway.

Dick Slater vs. Jake Roberts (No DQ) (2/11/86) (Barnett Raw Footage 1)

- If this makes it, we have to include Jake giving Journey the DDT on TV to help explain the neck brace. I love the opening knuckle-lock kick exchange but what the hell are these guys mixing in knuckle-locks for in a freaking No DQ match? This is an accelerated version of the 2/14 match with a ref bump in a No DQ match. I vote no for this match.

I liked all of Jake's counters when Slater pinned him, grabbing the refs hand, punching out of the bridge. Outside of that, this isn't a very good match. Slater's offense looked off, and the ref bump, foreign object finish is retarted in a No DQ match. With so many better matches between these two, no reason for this to go on.
