Posted September 27, 200718 yr comment_5422263 Jake “The Snake” Roberts vs. Ted DiBiase (7/22/85) This is from New Orleans and isn’t on the available house show stuff on UWA. Barbarian & Doc are at ringside with their respective partners and the crowd is firmly behind Jake chanting DDT loudly. The early part of this match is built around Jake trying to get the DDT on DiBiase but him escaping it and the crowd eats it all up. The tide turns a little though as when Jake chases DiBiase from the floor to the ring, DiBiase hits a diving fistdrop as Jake rolls in. DiBiase starts laying the punches in but Jake catches him flush with a high kneelift and as DiBiase gets up he loads the glove and jacks Jake’s jaw. Jake blades as soon as he gets hit and DiBiase loses his weapon with the ref looking at the glove to make sure it was clean. DiBiase gets a nearfall on Jake and continues to work on the cut with diving fistdrops then a barrage of different types of punches and kicks. DiBiase then locked in a sleeper to really weaken Jake but he would drop down with a jawbreaker to break the hold. Jake wipes the blood off his face on his hand and looks at it then becomes a maniac and starts annihilating DiBiase and when Doc tries to jump Jake, Barbarian takes care of him. Jake then picked up DiBiase and dropped him with the DDT to win and the New Orleans crowd is ballistic. Tremendous crowd heat and great work makes this a nomination. Then there are TV matches that I will have on better quality later from Phil Killer Khan v Magnum TA Magnum TA "My Way" video Midnight Express v II & Youngblood JYD v Reed/Ghetto Street Fight-Tar & Feathers Duggan/Taylor v Hernandez/Williams No DQ for the Mid-South Tag Titles: The Midnight Express (Dennis Condrey & Bobby Eaton) © vs. The Rock n Roll Express (Robert Gibson & Ricky Morton) (6/16/84) This is from the Superdome and Duggan is the corner of RnR wearing his tuxedo and is handcuffed to Cornette. This looked great but it is clipped up and had a great finish with Wendi Richter spraying ether on a rag and putting out Duggan causing the RnR to lose. No DQ for the NWA World Heavyweight Title: Ric Flair © vs. Kerry Von Erich (12/2/84) JIP and clipped up from Oklahoma City. This looked a lot like their other matches which means it had to be good. The thing we get here is double juice. DiBiase comes down to ringside and cheers on Flair, which is great and helps Flair get to the ropes to break the reversed figure-four by Kerry. Kerry brings DiBiase in the ring and starts pounding on him then goes back to Flair before throwing Carl Fergie down. Kerry tries to suplex Flair from the apron but DiBiase trips him up and Flair gets the pinfall. This was great fun and if it was complete it would be a definite nomination. Mid-South TV Title: “Superstar” Bill Dundee © vs. “Nature Boy” Buddy Landell (12/5/84) Landell was so awesome here really taking it to Dundee and Dundee was bumping around like a pinball. Dundee got knocked to the floor after a collision and Landell followed by ramming Dundee into the security railing and Dundee juices before bringing him back to the ring and he continues his vicious streak. This is really a squash match as Landell follows it up by hitting his corkscrew elbow for the victory. Magnum TA vs. “Dr. Death” Steve Williams (12/5/84) There was some really good amateur wrestling by both men early on and you could hear Watts’ dick get hard while he does commentary. Doc started using his power to control Magnum but missed a running shoulderblock in the corner and Magnum started to take control but Doc pulled him down by the hair. Doc then put Magnum in his bearhug followed up with a couple of backbreakers. Magnum turned the tide as he got his knees up when Doc was running into the corner and hit a nice dropkick before going to the punches. Magnum kept the attack going until Doc nailed him with the football helmet. Good little match. Ted DiBiase & Hercules Hernandez vs. Tim Horner & Terry Taylor (12/5/84) Some really good fast paced work to start the match and I really loved the DiBiase/Horner armdrag counter exchange. Horner was such a great worker and could make just about anyone look like a million bucks. Horner was getting the advantage on DiBiase but he dropped him with a backdrop suplex then Hercules tagged in and just used his raw power on Horner. The heels then took turns beating on Horner until he blocked a Hercules backdrop with a sunset flip for a nearfall and made the hot tag to Taylor. Taylor came in like a house of fire but Akbar would trip him leading to Hercules missing an elbow drop before they took each other out with double clotheslines. Both men then make tags as Butch Reed attacks Skandor Akbar on the floor and the faces send the champs to the floor. DiBiase rolls back in and KO’s Horner with the loaded glove for the 3 count as Taylor tries to break it up. This was really fun and a borderline nominaton. NWA World Heavyweight Title: Ric Flair © vs. Magnum TA (12/2/84) This is from Tulsa and from PPW so this means it will be clipped up. Flair & Magnum do some slick wrestling early on with Magnum using headscissors and Flair working to get out of them then the same with headlocks. We go to a break with Magnum holding a headlock on Flair and return with Magnum holding a headlock on Flair, Randy Orton would love this match. Flair would eventually get out and took Magnum to the corner where he started chopping and threw Magnum to the floor but Magnum ran back into the ring and started laying the punches in. Magnum continued his offensive barrage but Flair caught him with a Sunday punch and that turned the tide, as Flair started controlling the action. Flair would lock in the sleeper as the Tulsa crowd chants for Magnum and he would run to the corner with Flair hitting his head on the turnbuckle to break the hold. Magnum would reverse a Flair suplex attempt and locked in a sleeper of his own taking Flair to the mat and tried to pin him but Flair grabbed the bottom rope. Magnum hits a big bodyslam for another nearfall and sends Flair into the other corner where he does the Flair flop but he has enough to headbutt Magnum in the chest. Flair then would climb up top and of course Magnum would press slam him off and Magnum would go for a figure-four out of a drop toehold but Flair kicked him off. Magnum tried to get a backslide on Flair but Flair spun it around with one of his own and got the CLEAN PIN!!!!! That was a Flair rarity and this was a really good match but I’m on the edge of a nomination. Chavo & Hector Guerrero vs. Tim Horner & Shawn Michaels (1/2/85) This was a great squash match as the Guerreros looked awesome and Horner looked really good too. Chavo hit an awesome Northern Lights Suplex then the somersault senton off the top rope was the cherry on the sundae. Mid-South TV Title: “Nature Boy” Buddy Landell © vs. Terry Taylor (1/2/85) Landell tried to beat up on Taylor like he did Dundee but Taylor took him down with a headlock and gained control. Iceman Parsons comes out to counter Akbar and at this time Landell gets the advantage on Taylor by ramming him into the top turnbuckle. Taylor would try a sunset flip to turn the tide but Landell kicked out and immediately went back to the offensive. Landell locks in a reverse chinlock but would let Taylor up so he could punch him and that was a bad idea because Taylor started his comeback here. Akbar would trip Taylor as he ran the ropes and Landell would get a nearfall but he would get tripped up by Iceman as he ran the ropes with Taylor covering for the victory. Fine little match.
December 17, 200717 yr comment_5425461 Jake “The Snake” Roberts vs. Ted DiBiase (7/22/85) This was a bunch of fun, I loved DiBiase's first fist drop when Jake was coming into the ring, and you had a super insane hot crowd and cool finish. This totally smokes their outdoor match against each other, and I really don't think we need both Mid-South TV Title: “Superstar” Bill Dundee © vs. “Nature Boy” Buddy Landell (12/5/84) Squash, but man is Dundee great at being squashed Magnum TA vs. “Dr. Death” Steve Williams (12/5/84) Amature stuff ruled, nothing else really did Ted DiBiase & Hercules Hernandez vs. Tim Horner & Terry Taylor (12/5/84) Horner is better here then he is in any of the Lightning Express matches, I also really liked all of Hercules's power offense. Still a small step below a nomination.
