Taped Fist Match: King Kong Bundy vs. Dusty Rhodes (7/16/83)

This is clipped up from the Superdome and looked like lots of fun.

2 out of 3 falls for the North American Heavyweight Title: Junkyard Dog © vs. Butch Reed (7/16/83)

Clips of the title change from the Superdome and this looked great as well.

“Hacksaw” Butch Reed vs. Art Crews (7/20/83)

Squash.

“Dr. Death” Steve Williams vs. Boris Zuhkov (7/20/83)

Doc gets the big win.

Ted DiBiase & Mr. Olympia vs. Tim Horner & Johnny Rich (7/20/83)

Horner started this off awesome hitting all of his key spots including some great dropkicks. Rich tagged in and looked good too but the champs would take over after some back elbows by DiBiase but the faces would make a comeback turning it into a 4-way brawl. Olympia loaded up the boot and dropkicked Horner right into a powerslam by DiBiase for the pin. This was a really fun competitive match.

Hacksaw Duggan vs. Kamala (6/3/83)

This is from Houston and JIP of course as both men just pound each other and the referee for a DDQ.

Mr. Wrestling II vs. Rip Rogers (7/20/83)

Rogers attacks II at the bell, which was a bad move because he beats the living hell out of him.

Tim Horner & George Weingroff vs. Rip Rogers & Tony Zane (7/20/83)

Very very good competitive match with everyone looking good.

Hacksaw Duggan vs. Rick Davidson (7/20/83)

Squash.

Junkyard Dog vs. Mr. Olympia (7/20/83)

Former friends collide here and JYD starts slamming Olympia at the bell. JYD would dominate Olympia until he locked in a sleeper but then decided to try a move off the middle rope that JYD blocked. JYD then went to work with a reverse chinlock followed up with a headbutt that sent Olympia over the top rope to the floor. JYD tried to bring Olympia in the ring but he dropped him neck first on the top rope then loaded his boot and missed a dropkick off the top rope. JYD grabbed the object off the boot and put it on his hand KOing him for the 3 count. Pretty fair match.

North American Heavyweight Title: “Hacksaw” Butch Reed © vs. Magnum TA (7/20/83)

Magnum kept control during the early part of the match using his speed and wrestling ability and then Reed turned the tide using his own ability but with his raw power as well. Reed was chunking some great soupbones here and hit a great dropkick but made a mistake when jumping off the middle rope by getting punched in the chest. Magnum made a fiery comeback and got a nearfall after a legdrop then hit his atomic drop/belly-to-belly suplex combo but Reed kicked out. Reed bailed to the floor to collect himself but Reed countered a Magnum bodyslam into an inside cradle for a nearfall. Reed would eventually take Magnum to the floor and started swinging his right knee around the ringpost but Magnum kept fighting back and hit Reed with the atomic drop again but on his bad knee. Reed then hit him flush with a diving shoulderblock for the 3 count to retain his title. This was a really solid TV match and a nomination on my end because Magnum made a name in this one.

Johnny Rich & “Dr. Death” Steve Williams vs. King Kong Bundy & Ted DiBiase (7/20/83)

Funny to see DiBiase & Doc on opposite sides. Rich looked good against DiBiase early on and hung with DiBiase before tagging Doc in, which got the crowd to start chanting for Bundy to enter the ring. Doc took it to DiBiase so he had to go to the floor to gather himself and then tagged in Bundy to the crowd’s delight. It soon turns into a 4-way brawl with Rich getting him some of Bundy and Doc hit him with the Oklahoma Stampede for the 3 count. This was huge at the time because Bundy didn’t do many jobs especially on TV. The brawl continued after the match and it looked like everyone was confused on what to do so just continued to fight until they felt like stopping.

Boris Zuhkov vs. Tony Torres (7/20/83)

Squash.

Art Crews vs. John Davidson (7/20/83)

Crews gets a rare win.

Ted DiBiase & Mr. Olympia vs. Tim Horner & Johnny Rich (7/20/83)

Johnny Rich does an amazing job leaning in and eating a big knee from Dibiasse in the corner. The Olympia drop kick into dibiase powerslam is cool double team finisher.

Mr. Wrestling II vs. Rip Rogers (7/20/83)

Nasty as fuck knee lift, crazy bump to eat the knee lift

Tim Horner & George Weingroff vs. Rip Rogers & Tony Zane (7/20/83)

Weingroff and Horner have really good timing on their face double teams combo moves. Really good looking double atomic drop that sends Rogers through ropes to floor, really perfectly syncronized double dropkick.

Hacksaw Duggan vs. Rick Davidson (7/20/83)

So the Davidson brothers amuse me as a heel tag team with lots of stooge coolision spots but fuck both of their singles matches here looked like they had no ability to take opponents offense as just dead weight and flopping. Hacksaw with a nasty spear for finish.

Junkyard Dog vs. Mr. Olympia (7/20/83)

Written about this match up before asa it shows up on a best of or something and fun match up but below disc set andref seeing foreign object calling for bell then changing his mind and counting three is shitty.

North American Heavyweight Title: “Hacksaw” Butch Reed © vs. Magnum TA (7/20/83)

I have mixed feelings on this as it is realy well worked. I liked the early TA holds onto armbar stuff, the atomic drop into belly to belly was well timed, not so sure about Reed getting out of belly to belly that easily but not a big problem, Ta throws a missed elbow that I for the life of me can't figure out what his intended target was supposed to be, Reed wraps TAs leg around post so he can't execute atomic drop leading to shoulder tackle and pin. Not sure if this is actually better than the Flair v TA match which I think is no longer in the running, and feels like a low end nomination. I can't quite say what makes it feel low end but it feels low end.

Johnny Rich & “Dr. Death” Steve Williams vs. King Kong Bundy & Ted DiBiase (7/20/83)

Was Bundy's shoulders actually down. I couldn't figure out what was going on with the just brawl untill stop finish but this was fun.

North American Heavyweight Title: “Hacksaw” Butch Reed © vs. Magnum TA (7/20/83)

I didn't love this match as TA definitly felt a little green and some of the moves seemed a bit off, still this was a pretty masterful job by Reed in making a wrestler and you can watch TA become a star during it. Really comparable almost to Sting v. Flair from the Clash, I think this actually might finish pretty high and is a disc worthy match

Johnny Rich & “Dr. Death” Steve Williams vs. King Kong Bundy & Ted DiBiase (7/20/83)

Finish was really off, but man was this fun, I assume this is one of the few times DiBiase faced Dr. Death and you could really tell the crowd was amped by Williams v. Bundy
