Mid-South Tag Titles w/2 referees: The Rock n Roll Express (Robert Gibson & Ricky Morton © vs. Chavo & Hector Guerrero (1/16/85)

The Guerreros have enlisted Jim Cornette who is wearing a sombrero as their manager for this match only and will pay him in gold coins. RnR used some great armdrags early on on both Guerreros and the headlock/headscissors combo by Gibson was nice. RnR dominated the Guerreros early but a missed shoulderblock by Gibson into the ringpost changed the momentum and the Guerreros went to work. Gibson would eventually roll around and made the hot tag to Morton who started dropkicking everyone in sight including Ronnie West by accident & Jim Cornette. Chavo then got the gold coins and nailed Morton as he had Hector in an O’Connor Roll then threw the coins out of the ring as Carl Fergie rolled in to make the 3 count. The heels celebrate but Ronnie West would overturn the decision after seeing the coins and the RnR won the match by DQ. Very fun match with a little different formula with Cornette involved and Gibson as FIP. This was a little short though so I’m on the fence on this one.

Chavo & Hector Guerrero vs. The Fantastics (Bobby Fulton & Tommy Rogers) (1/21/85)

This is JIP from New Orleans. Hector hits a nice double-arm suplex on Rogers then keeps the arms locked as he goes to the ground putting more pressure on. Rogers takes a beating from the Guerreros and keeps trying to fight back but they overpower him especially Hector as just suplexes him around the ring. They do a great job of keeping him away from Fulton but Rogers kept fighting and got a couple of nearfalls on Chavo with the O’Connor Roll. Rogers still couldn’t get that tag though as they still kept him in their corner even though he got another nearfall on a cross body block and finally got the hot tag after a dropkick on Hector. Fulton comes in and the 4-way brawl is on with the Fants hitting stereo backdrops and dropkicks. Fulton hits a diving body press off the middle rope on Hector but Chavo follows up with his somersault senton on Fulton’s back with Hector covering for the 3 count. This was a fun match as Rogers took quite the beating and in fact we never even saw Fulton in the match until the end. Another match I’m on the fence on.

Mid-South Tag Titles: The Rock n Roll Expres (Robert Gibson & Ricky Morton) © vs. The Midnight Express (Dennis Condrey & Bobby Eaton) (1/21/85)

This is also JIP from New Orleans. This was a perfect example of their match as Morton took a great beating from the MX who were vicious at this time as going to World Class gave them even more of an edge. Morton gets the hot tag on Gibson and the place goes crazy but a double collision by Gibson/Eaton knocks Pee Wee Anderson to the floor. Condrey then suplexes Morton but Gibson climbs back and hits a diving body press from the second rope for the win. This one goes on the block.

Jake “The Snake” Roberts vs. Shawn Michaels (1/30/85)

Shawn eats a tremendous DDT.

4 Way Elimination Match for $10,000: The Rock n Roll Express (Robert Gibson & Ricky Morton) vs. The Fantastics (Bobby Fulton & Tommy Rogers) vs. Chavo & Hector Guerrero vs. The Midnight Express (Dennis Condrey & Bobby Eaton) (2/10/85)

This was a fantastic match from OKC, which was the precursor for the Superdome elimination match the next month but this one was a million times better. This was all action from the bell as everyone was working their ass off and it was great seeing the RnR & Fants teaming together and working against each other as we had a quick Morton/Rogers exchange. Their exchange led to a great spot where they tagged Hector & Eaton with fists to the face and did a hi-five. Bobby & Hector also had a nice exchange with Eaton hitting him so hard with his right hand that he had to go to the corner and shake it off. The selling in this match by everyone was top notch as all 4 teams looked like they were at the top of their game. The one thing I didn’t like was that we missed the Fants elimination during the commercials and as we came back the Guerreros were getting eliminated. RnR & MX then did their normal great stuff and there was a great finish that actually gets cut off on this but we have it elsewhere. Definite nomination.

“The Modern Day Warrior” Kerry Von Erich vs. “Nature Boy” Buddy Landell (2/27/85)

Buddy was awesome here and a great opponent for Kerry.

Mid-South TV Title: Terry Taylor © vs. Jake “The Snake” Roberts (2/27/85)

The crowd was really into this match as Taylor’s female fans were shouting for him loudly. Taylor spent the early part of the match working on the left arm but Jake would use a jawbreaker out of a hammerlock to gain the advantage. Jake then become relentless on offense working on Taylor’s neck but made a mistake with a back elbow smash off the second rope as he missed completely. Taylor started firing away with the punches following it up with a bodyslam and diving kneedrop for a nearfall. Jake would stop this though with a beautiful clothesline but as he went for a bodyslam, Taylor countered and hit a five-arm after bouncing off the ropes for the win. Jake then took his boot and nailed Taylor in the back of the head before grabbing a steel chair then DDTed him square on the steel part of the chair. Taylor had to get 17 stitches in his head after this on the top of his head. This was a really solid TV match and I’m going to put this as a low-end nomination.

Hacksaw Duggan & Kerry Von Erich vs. “Gorgeous” Gino Hernandez & Hercules Hernandez (2/27/85)

This is the “dream team” and this crowd is one of the best crowds they ever had for a TV taping as they were nuts for everything. Fun little match that had a great finish and Joel Watts was channeling David Crockett on commentary.

Kerry Von Erich vs. Gino Hernandez (2/15/85)

This is from Houston and clipped. It looked a good match though.

North American Heavyweight Title vs. Mid-South TV Title: Ted DiBiase © vs. Terry Taylor ©

This is a rare title vs. title match as Taylor had challenged DiBiase earlier in the show and DiBiase answered the challenge. Jake came out before the match saying that Taylor is scared of him and goes to the floor. Taylor used his wrestling ability to take the advantage early on but DiBiase would soon counter with rough tactics and used Taylor’s face as a punching bag. DiBiase kept the advantage but Taylor would fight fire with fire and started throwing punches to counter him and reversed a neckbreaker into a suplex for a nearfall as Jake draped DiBiase’s foot on the rope. Jake would then trip DiBiase by mistake then got popped by Taylor then got hit by Taylor again after DiBiase kicked out of an O’Connor Roll. DiBiase loaded up the glove but missed his shot and Taylor hit a five-arm to become the double champ. Tremendous finish to this match and the crowd was going nuts. This is also a low-end nomination.

The Fabulous Freebirds (Terry Gordy & Michael Hayes) vs. Terry Latham & Tommy Wright (Spring 1980)

This match must go on as an extra because it is a rare match featuring the Birds during their first push and at the original TV studio.
