Posted September 27, 200718 yr comment_5422304 The Barbarian vs. Josh Stroud (3/13/85) Squash and after the match Butch Reed brawls with Barbarian. 4 Way Elimination Match: The Rock n Roll Express vs. Brad Armstrong & Tom Prichard vs. The Dirty White Boys (Tony Anthony & Len Denton) vs. Jake “The Snake” Roberts & Jack Victory (3/13/85) Fine for what it was and the RnR/DWB section was good. Kamala vs. Shawn Michaels (3/27/85) Kamala destroys Michaels but Terry Taylor comes out and beats on Akbar then piledrives Friday on the floor. They show a great Gino Hernandez video done by Houston set to Dirty Laundry by The Eagles. Then they show the great Hot Stuff video for Eddie Gilbert. The Rock n Roll Express (Robert Gibson & Ricky Morton) vs. The Barbarian & Jake “The Snake” Roberts (4/10/85) Jake & Barbarian were so great as a team and this was their first big match as a team. Morton took a beating early on but would come back to make the tag to Gibson who came in and got a beating as well. Gibson would finally get the hot tag to Morton and they delivered double dropkicks to both men before Morton got caught on the ropes neck first. DWB’s then came out and were pulling Morton’s legs as Jake DDTed Gibson then put pressure on Morton before the faces cleared out to make the save. Duggan went for the attack on Jake but Barbarian put the full-nelson on Duggan as Jake ran interference. Jake then went over and put the DDT on Duggan before getting Barbarian to leave the ring with the faces in a pile. This was a fantastic TV segment and should go on somewhere. “Hot Stuff” Eddie Gilbert & The Nightmare vs. Tim Horner & Rocky Montana (4/10/85) Hot Stuff’s debut in the territory that made his career. The Rock n Roll Express (Robert Gibson & Ricky Morton) vs. The Fabulous Freebirds (Michael Hayes & Buddy Roberts) (5/8/85) RnR looked good here but the Birds seemed a little off botching some things and their timing was a little off. Screwy finish though as Gibson had Roberts in an O’Connor Roll, Hayes grabbed him and threw him over the top rope for the DQ. RnR would hit their double dropkick on Buddy though for good measure. Terry Taylor vs. “Hot Stuff” Eddie Gilbert (5/22/85) Taylor has the big Superdome match coming up against Ric Flair at the Superdome and Flair makes his first Mid-South TV appearance here. This started off with some good back and forth action and Taylor was really throwing some good punches here. Taylor would go for the figure-four and Gilbert gave up leading to Flair entering the ring and that led to a brawl with Flair getting the best of Taylor as he put the figure-four on him. The crowd is going nuts for Terry and he gets the reversal. Gilbert tried to come in but Snowman cuts him off at the pass. North American Heavyweight Title: Terry Taylor © vs. The Nightmare (5/22/85) Gilbert & Flair are at ringside for this one as Flair has offered $10,000 to Gilbert & Nightmare respectively if they take the title off of Taylor. The match was a good competitive match but everything else that was going on around this made the entire thing great. Flair & Gilbert were awesome here. North American Heavyweight Title: The Nightmare © vs. Magnum TA (6/11/85) This was Magnum's first match back in Mid-South in 7 months and shows his improvement as a worker since going to Jim Crockett Promotions. Nightmare works this like a big poor man's Randy Orton with rest holds and chinlocks, very slow and plodding and isn't real sharp on his knees to the body either. Magnum is pretty good being the face in peril and took a nice dive to the floor after a double axehandle to the back. Magnum's big comeback is nice as he goes Dusty with the jabs and has the fans with him especially when he blocked the piledriver and popped Hot Stuff. Nice finish with Nightmare loading up the mask while Magnum was hitting Hot Stuff then Magnum hit the mask with his hand before getting headbutted for the win. This was all Magnum and while a fair match not a DVD pick IMO. Ted DiBiase & “Dr. Death” Steve Williams vs. Brad Armstrong & Brickhouse Brown (6/5/85) Armstrong & Brick work really well here as a team and give the champs a run for their money. This was a really good competitive match. Hacksaw Duggan vs. Larry Clark (6/5/85) Duggan is wearing his faceguard here since he was burnt by Akbar. This match doesn’t go long before DiBiase & Doc jump in and DiBiase jacks Duggan with the loaded glove. Akbar comes in and tries to burn him with a lit cigar until Bill Watts finally comes in with a steel chair to make the save. They were holding Duggan forever it seemed. Fun stuff. The Nightmare vs. Bill Dundee (6/5/85) Dundee makes this a good match by bumping around and selling big time for Nightmare who wins with the loaded mask. The Fantastics (Bobby Fulton & Tommy Rogers) vs. The Dirty White Boys (Tony Anthony & Len Denton) (6/19/85) This started off with everyone going full blast as the Fants were cooking. They even got the rowboat spot in which I love. Fants were looking great until Denton hit a dropkick square in Fulton’s face and the tide turned from there. DWB’s really worked on Fulton but Anthony missed a splash and Rogers got the hot tag coming in like a house of fire setting off a 4-way brawl. Rogers missed a dropkick and Denton accidentally hit Anthony with his boot leading to an inside cradle for the victory. Fun little match.
