Posted September 28, 200718 yr comment_5422329 Ted DiBiase vs. Terry Taylor (7/3/85) This match is supposed to be Taylor vs. The Nightmare for the North American Heavyweight Title but Eddie Gilbert comes in the ring and demands that this match should be a non-title match because Taylor has had his rematch already. Taylor complains until DiBiase comes in the ring and says that Gilbert is right and that he never got a rematch at Taylor after losing the NA Title to him so he wants to have a #1 contender match for the title. Taylor doesn’t want the match but DiBiase slaps him in the face, which seals the deal. They lock up and DiBiase throws him in the corner where he starts punching him but as he throws Taylor into the other corner, Taylor reverses and catches him with a kneelift. Taylor then starts firing punches before throwing DiBiase in the ropes and as he tries a backdrop, DiBiase punches him in the mouth. DiBiase then goes for the figure-four leglock but Taylor pushes him off. Taylor then hiptosses DiBiase out of the corner and lands a dropkick for a 2 count. Taylor then slams DiBiase back on the mat and drops a knee for another 2 count. Taylor puts DiBiase in a wristlock into a reverse armbar but DiBiase gets back on his feet and punches Taylor a couple of times before slamming Taylor but Taylor keeps the armbar in tact. Taylor now has both knees on DiBiase’s arm before DiBiase gets back on his feet and reverses the hold. Taylor punches his way out and goes back to work on the arm taking DiBiase down and going back to a conventional armbar that turns into a wristlock. DiBiase takes Taylor into the corner and fires some forearms breaking the hold and as he throws Taylor into the other corner, Taylor hops up and hits a sunset flip for a 2 count. Taylor then armdrags DiBiase back to the mat and goes back to the armbar before DiBiase gets back on his feet taking Taylor into the corner and punches Taylor to get out of the hold. DiBiase then starts kneeing Taylor in the head and bashes his head in the turnbuckles before landing another right cross. DiBiase then stomps on Taylor’s face and drops his fist before going for a choke which he eventually breaks after a referee warning. DiBiase then puts Taylor’s neck on the top rope and chokes him before dropping on the mat but as he goes for an elbow drop Taylor moves. Taylor tries to slam DiBiase but DiBiase falls on Taylor for a 2 count. DiBiase picks Taylor and throws him to the ropes but as he tries an armdrag, Taylor counters into a backslide for a 2 count. DiBiase climbs on the middle rope and drops an elbow on Taylor’s head and drops some more elbows for a 2 count. DiBiase then goes for a reverse chinlock keeping Taylor on the mat and knees him in the back for extra measure. Taylor gets back on his feet and elbows DiBiase in the gut to break the hold and shoulderblocks DiBiase while in the corner before firing chops. Taylor throws DiBiase in the corner but DiBiase fires back with a clothesline for a 2 count. DiBiase goes back to the middle rope and tries to hit Taylor but catches a right hand to the midsection and as DiBiase begs off, Taylor kicks and punches him in the corner before throwing him out of the corner and hitting his own clothesline. Taylor then drops an elbow for a 2 count but as he picks DiBiase up, DiBiase catches him in a kneecrusher and locks in the figure-four leglock. Taylor reaches for the ropes desperately and gets a 2 count before he turns it over. DiBiase screams in pain before grabbing the ropes and the referee has to break them up. Taylor limps over to DiBiase and starts firing punches and kicks DiBiase’s knee in the corner and the referee pulls Taylor off. DiBiase then loads up his black glove in the process but Taylor starts pounding DiBiase’s head in the turnbuckles before DiBiase tried to punch him but got backdropped. Taylor then picks DiBiase back up but DiBiase throws him in the corner where Taylor bounces off right into DiBiase’s loaded glove and Taylor bounced back on the turnbuckles hitting the back of his head for the extra impact. Taylor falls in a heap and gets pinned for the 3 count. Tremendous TV match as Taylor is jobbing on his way out to Jim Crockett Promotions and a definite nomination. Hair vs. Flag: Hacksaw Duggan vs. Krusher Khruschev (8/29/84) Krusher is on his way to Florida so he jobs his flag out to Duggan who decides to burn the flag with the fans. Sir Oliver Humperdink & The Nightmare fire Eddie Gilbert. “Capt. Redneck” Dick Murdoch vs. Ted DiBiase (7/17/85) This was supposed to be Murdoch vs. Dutch Mantell but DiBiase comes out and wants Murdoch instead. This turns into a total brawl of course and Dutch would get involved along with the Nightmare who tried a piledriver but Murdoch reversed and started WALKING TALL on all three. Butch Reed would soon enter the ring and WALKED TALL with Murdoch. Great stuff. Mexican Death Match for the Mid-South Tag Titles: Ted DiBiase & “Dr. Death” Steve Williams © vs. Chavo & Hector Guerrero (6/28/85) This is from Houston and a PPW match so it will be clipped up. We get the first couple of minutes before a commercial break then we come back pretty deep into the match it looks with the Guerreros dominating the champs. Hector is biting at DiBiase’s forehead as Chavo works on Doc but he would get his neck caught in the ropes with DiBiase & Hector bleeding like crazy. Chavo finally gets free and DiBiase would KO Hector with a bandolero on the floor leaving him & Doc to be counted out but this match can’t end on a draw. Doc gets up and nails Chavo with a bandolero then DiBiase follows on Hector and they beat them into oblivion. Doc hangs Chavo from the top rope with his and DiBiase would do the same on Hector. Chavo gets in the ring with his bandolero though and he starts pounding on DiBiase then Doc with Hector coming back with his too. While this is going on the bell is ringing as there is confusion on what is going on but everyone keeps fighting. Chavo & Hector would succumb though and they were being counted out by Tony Torres then as he turns from Chavo who was getting up, DiBiase nails him with a bandolero leaving them to be both counted out. This is a judgement call by the rest of ya’ll because this would be a nomination if it was complete but is there enough of this to warrant being on the block. The greatest video Joel Watts ever did that wasn’t the potato videos airs in the Jake/Barbarian video. A slam dunk extra. “Superstar” Bill Dundee vs. Dale Williams (8/14/85) Dundee is starting his heel turn as he was pinned by a midget the week before. This match is there to further the angle Dundee had going on with Bobby Fulton. This is great stuff with Little Coco coming out in the Dundee outfit. “Dirty” Dutch Mantell vs. Tommy Rogers (8/14/85) More continuation of the above. This was like a singles version of their tag series with Rogers taking a good beating and making a great comeback. Dundee would show up when the action was hitting it’s peak and grabbed the top rope when Rogers was kicked out of an O’Connor Roll. This set off another Fants/heels brawl. The Midnight Rider debut video airs. Micah Watts is playing the role of the Rider here. Another definite extra. Jake “The Snake” Roberts vs. The Nightmare (8/28/85) Jake is the hero of the fans at this point and he is coming into his own as a babyface. Jake teases the DDT the early part of the match but Nightmare used his strength advantage to work out of it. Nightmare uses a bearhug to weaken Jake and continues to work on Jake until he gets popped with a high kneelift. Nightmare loads his mask as he gets up and headbutts Jake three times with Jake blading in clear sight as he goes to the mat. Gilbert comes to ringside complaining about the loaded mask but Nightmare takes the object out and gives it to Humperdink. Jake juices but hits the DDT flush on Nightmare and then unmasks the Nightmare revealing him as Randy Culley while Gilbert holds Humongous back. Humongous would break free though and would go after Jake but Barbarian comes in to even the odds but he turns on Jake and the monsters beat the fuck out of Jake. Joel Watts is full on David Crockett here on commentary as Jake gets destroyed. Great great stuff and the turn should definitely be an extra. El Corsario vs. “Hot Stuff” Eddie Gilbert (8/28/85) Corsario wants to break boards before the match with his Superkick but attacks Gilbert then kicks him in the throat. Corsario then puts a nerve hold on Gilbert as he spits up blood. Great angle to get Corsario over. Dick Murdoch’s commercial for the Tulsa Welding School airs next and another extra. Dick Slater’s contract signing airs and that’s another extra. Ted DiBiase & Dr. Death beat the fuck out of Bob Sweetan for losing the Mid-South Tag Titles. Sweetan would make a comeback though and beat on DiBiase & Doc with a steel chair. Another extra. “Mad Dog” Buzz Sawyer vs. Richard Dunn (9/25/85) Buzz cuts a promo where he rips JCP & WWF before the match then murders Dunn. Hacksaw Duggan shows off his lumber collection. Jake “The Snake” Roberts vs. El Corsario (9/25/85) Akbar is gone so Corsario is on his own and it’s jobbing time. This was a pretty competitive match and Jake was awesome. Hot Stuff reveals his portrait and announces the giveaway contest and his heel turn at the same time. Shoobaby On A Pole: The Fantastics (Bobby Fulton & Tommy Rogers) vs. “Superstar” Bill Dundee & “Dirty” Dutch Mantell (9/25/85) The pole was definitely the central part of this match as every time a team would get the advantage they raced for that pole. Dutch using the Fants as stairs was awesome. Dundee took a great bump off the pole when Fulton rammed his head into it. You could feel the hatred here between these two teams and the desperation to get that bullwhip. Gilbert shows up and he grabs the whip for the DQ and they whip on Fulton until Rogers makes the save and whips Dutch. Gilbert then threw powder in Rogers’ face then went back to whipping Fulton again. Rogers then comes back with a steel chair and cleans house. This was great stuff and a definite nomination. Dark Journey video of her dancing around to Madonna airs to get the male fans worked up. Hacksaw Duggan & Jake “The Snake” Roberts vs. El Corsario & “Dirty” Dutch Mantell (10/9/85) Dundee had left for Memphis and Dutch would soon join him. Duggan & Jake were a great babyface team and this was a fine competitive match. “Hot Stuff” Eddie Gilbert vs. Bobby Fulton (10/9/85) Eddie continues his portrait giveaway before the match and Fulton interrupts him so we have a wild brawl. Fulton would send Gilbert to the floor but Gilbert would gather his shit and grabbed Fulton’s leg and started banging it on the apron. Gilbert comes in the ring doing the Fargo Strut but Fulton catches him in an O’Connor Roll for a nearfall. Gilbert though keeps the advantage pulling Fulton up by the hair then uses it to keep Fulton on the mat in a reverse chinlock. Gilbert stays on Fulton hard until he misses a diving kneedrop from the middle rope then the Fulton comeback kicks in gear. Gilbert would send Fulton to the floor though but he would come back with a sunset flip that Gilbert would reverse holding the tights for the victory. Very fun match and a borderline nomination.
