These two had unfinished business from before Taylor left so this should be interesting. This was a game of human chess as they were trying to outthink each other and both men tried to avoid the other one’s finisher. Taylor would strike first as he hit him with the five-arm and Jake went all the way to the floor. Taylor was really sharp here as he was keeping Jake on the mat but Jake would reverse a wristlock into his short clothesline. Jake then takes it to mat and works a headlock but Taylor would reverse that into a backbreaker. Taylor missed a diving elbow and Jake destroyed him with a high kneelift. Both men would trade shots until Jake nuked him with the DDT but Taylor would get his foot under the rope as Jake rolled him the wrong way. Taylor would roll to the floor and as Jake let him in, he caught him with another high kneelift but missed another one. Taylor then locked in an inside cradle for the victory. This was a really solid match and a definite nomination. They show clips of Jake’s last match for Mid-South in Houston against Slater on 2/28/86. Slater retires the Mid-South TV Title by throwing it in the Arkansas River. This is a definite extra. Koko Ware vs. “Hot Stuff” Eddie Gilbert (3/2/86) Gilbert offers Koko a job with Hot Stuff International before the match and of course that was turned down. Koko comes out firing some fucking great punches that Gilbert was selling like gunshots then jacked his jaw with an awesome dropkick. Gilbert would catch Koko with a Sunday punch in the corner and just went all out on the chickenshit heel offense plus the prancing around was great. Bill Watts was so awesome on commentary talking about how Gilbert is living off some woman. Gilbert hitting the Giant Baba clothesline drop for a nearfall was great. Koko would make a comeback throwing more great punches but Gilbert caught him in the corner then hit a monkey flip. Gilbert would try for a reverse 180 splash and miss then Koko capitalized by hitting a picture-perfect dropkick from the middle rope for the victory. Koko was then demolished by Tarras Bulba but he would make a comeback grabbing the steel chair they brought in the ring and chased them out. The match was tremendous and a nomination for me. The Blade Runners (Flash & Rock) vs. Steve Doll & Perry Jackson (3/2/86) The Blades debut. Now time for stuff I’ve already seen Fabs v Guerreros*-Mexican Death Match (quad juice) Road Warriors video Fantastics v Sheepherders Sheepherders run in on Fantastics Slater challenges Duggan-brawl. Akbar fireballs Duggan Gilbert & Kortsia Korchenko do an interview from a restaurant with Korchenko just throwing food down his gullet that for some reason was just great to me. Kortsia Korchenko vs. Perry Jackson (4/13/86) Squash and the flag is placed on Jackson. The Fantastics (Bobby Fulton & Tommy Rogers) & Terry Taylor vs. The Sheepherders (Butch Miller & Luke Williams) & Jack Victory (4/13/86) This was a very fun match that ended in a TV draw Highlights from the Crockett Cup airs next. “Mad Dog” Buzz Sawyer vs. Tracy Smothers (4/13/86) Tracy dies here as Buzz is just an animal here. North American Heavyweight Title: Hacksaw Duggan © vs. Dick Slater (4/13/86) Gilbert & Korchenko challenge Duggan before the match and of course that would end up in a brawl but Duggan ran them out of the ring and the match would start. Slater would get the advantage early and worked on Duggan’s bad ribs but Duggan would fight back every chance he got. Duggan caught Slater coming off the top rope with a shot to the gut then hit a clothesline but missed a diving kneedrop. Slater went for the figure-four immediately but Duggan kicked him off. Slater then missed a diving headbutt and Duggan made his comeback firing off the punches but Slater raked him in the eyes to stop that. Duggan would miss a diving body press from the middle rope but Duggan would hit him flush with a spear after a leapfrog to win the match. I’m on the fence for this one as it was a really good match. Then a JIP match between the MX/Fants is shown A summary of the Russian flag angle airs and this is all a definite for the extras.
