August 5, 20232 yr comment_6008612 Matt Hardy spends what seems to be an inordinate amount of time on Social Media trumpeting how wonderful The Elite are. I know they are his friends, but it comes across as kind of lame and basically like he’s sucking up to them. (“Give them their flowers!”) For a guy that puts as much thought into his gimmick as he does, he seems to be lacking self-awareness. Unless being a groveling toady is his new gimmick.

While I think Ruby's overreaction of "either we trust each other or I'm going to have to take matters into my own hands" wasn't well thought out (especially given Tay's background in Judo), I also think Tay actually set a lot of this stuff into motion by apparently not talking with Ruby at all after the injury. Not sure if that last part was kayfabed for the show or not, but that behavior runs counter to the usual wrestling etiquette of following up with someone if you happen to injure them in the ring. I would love to have seen Ruby try to bow up against Tay and get tossed around like a lawn chair for her troubles.

Jaylen Brown resigned with the Celtics this summer for 5 years/$305 million, so Tony needs to seriously be careful there. NBA level (of a two-way contract for half the rookie minimum)
August 6, 20232 yr comment_6008853 So for us “International Viewers” the pre-orders are now available for All In/All Out on Fite TV. It’s $50 per show. I would have thought that they would be offering some sort of package deal, like $75.00 if you order both shows, since they are only a week apart…but apparently not. So basically if you want to see both shows you’re going to end up paying $100.00 to AEW in the space of a week. I know the organizations are hardly comparable, but Billy Corgan’s NWA has been running a lot of two-night PPV’s. They did it for the Crockett Cup and they are doing it for the upcoming 75th Anniversary as well. They offer a certain price for each night or a significant discount package deal if you order both shows. It seems to be a no-brainer from a business standpoint. Asking fans to pay $100.00 for two PPV’s in a week seems to be a big ask and I am not sure it is a particularly smart business decision. I know AEW has been getting a bit of flack from some fans about their ticket prices lately and this seems to go into the same category. I think they are going to end up forcing the fans to pick which one of the shows they want to see because a lot of people aren’t going to be inclined to order both or even if they want to, they just won’t be able to afford it.
August 6, 20232 yr comment_6008856 I got a family BBQ on August 27 so this will quite ease my decision. All Out it will be then.

Even though it is in the middle of the day, I think it starts at 12 PM Eastern Time. I might see if a couple of my buddies want to come and see it at my place and then we can all chip in. I assume All In will be more historic in nature due to the location and crowd size.
August 7, 20232 yr comment_6008969 When a promotion does the "because fuck you, that's why" like this, are PWO brothers inclined to use perfectly illegal means to watch the shows, "because fuck you in return, that's why"?

Oh yeah. I feel zero guilt over the fact that I haven’t paid a penny to watch any WWE content in years. I canceled my WWE Network Subscription before they moved to Peacock. I can’t say that I feel a ton of guilt over not putting money in the pocket of a creepy old rapist. For the most part, I have always paid for my AEW content. Even though the Khan family are already filthy rich, I figured I would support the official alternative to WWE. But right now I don’t see myself paying for both of these shows.

And the ticket prices on the recent Canadian tour have proved AEW are not beyond soaking their fans.
August 7, 20232 yr comment_6009019 LuFisto deleted her Twitter and canceled a booking after most of the AEW women came at her for her comments about their locker room. Seems like perhaps one or two people vented at her about how they perceive the situation and she jumped on it as 100% factual.

Absolutely. Specially because a hundred bucks is nearly what I spend in a month in terms of food and groceries, taking the exchange rate into account.
August 14, 20232 yr Author comment_6009481 Ryan Nemeth was supposedly sent home after "words" with CM Punk. I completely believe that a nobody would be sent home after clashing with a top star - it's a tale as old as time - but I wonder what the story is here, if there is one.

September 15, 20232 yr comment_6011518 These advances are pretty damn terrible. Maybe it's time to move on from MJF as champ and let him and Cole cook without having the strap involved?
September 16, 20232 yr comment_6011544 They should do the TNA gimmick of filming a month of TV in front of a hot UK crowd.
September 16, 20232 yr comment_6011550 They should do the TNA gimmick of putting the title on Double J
September 16, 20232 yr comment_6011552 Great matches (obviously subjective) might get them good ratings or PPV buys (especially post-event buys, where AEW apparently is extremely strong) but by themselves, great matches have never been sufficient for regularly selling live event tickets for national-level wrestling promotions. We have known this since the 1980s, when JCP would debut in a new market, would get an excellent crowd/gate, would tear the house down with amazing matches involving hot crowds that were extremely praised, with great reviews about the event as a whole, and then wouldn't be able to draw flies to shit the next time they went to the market. You need big stars, wrestlers and angles people are invested in and want to see. Which is why I think it would actually be a mistake to take the title off MJF right now. He is in the hottest, biggest drawing (in terms of ratings and even PPV buys if you include how well All In did on PPV despite the meh build) angle in the promotion. I know the arguments about how the angle doesn't need/shouldn't involve the world title, but I would counter by arguing: for an upstart, rookie promotion trying to become a permanent successful institution, shouldn't the world title be involved in the most over program? Isn't the biggest, most money-drawing match in AEW right now, babyface MJF defending the title against heel Adam Cole?
September 16, 20232 yr comment_6011554 To the things @MoS pointed out, there's also a huge issue with how expensive AEW tickets are compared to the first show they have in a market. Fans have very little incentive to buy a weekly TV ticket in advance when they either don't have much expectations about a show worth watching or they know tickets will go waaay down the week of the show. Though, as Grand Slam has shown, there's big portion of fans that don't bother checking out twice to see if prices went down.
September 17, 20232 yr comment_6011608 I actually think the thing that could increase some attendances is if they pull the trigger on elevating Orange Cassidy into the World Title picture. That and treating Danielson like the superstar he is would help
October 12, 20231 yr comment_6012608 Since the other thread is devolving into…whatever it is that’s going on there, I propose we revive this thread to discuss AEW losing to NXT in the ratings and Tony Khan having a normal one on Twitter about it.
October 12, 20231 yr comment_6012609 To me, I never expected AEW to win in the ratings last night. You can’t expect a TV show to switch nights once, and for the entire audience to follow them. I would bet there was a pretty large chunk of casual fans who either forgot, or didn’t even know that Dynamite was on Tuesday not Wednesday this week. Sometimes I think Tony Khan assumes his entire audience is perpetually online and hanging on his every Tweet.
