UWF TV Title: “Hot Stuff” Eddie Gilbert © vs. Sam Houston (4/5/87)

Gotta love Gilbert wearing the Pro Wrestling This Week t-shirt. This started out in a solid wrestling match with both men trading holds and the advantage. Gilbert & Houston would hit each other with a clothesline after Gilbert had sent Houston to the floor then worked on him for a bit. Gilbert would get up first and delivered a beautiful backdrop suplex but couldn’t follow up due to being tired. Houston hit an awesome looking reverse neckbreaker that looked like it was headed for an inside cradle. Houston would then suplex Gilbert but he landed right on his neck before they got into a slugfest that Gilbert was selling punches like Flair. Houston would signal for the bulldog but Gilbert hit the referee on purpose to get DQed. I usually don’t like screwjob finishes but for Gilbert’s chickenshit character at this time it made perfect sense. This was a really fun match and I’m throwing it up as a low-end candidate.

I thought this was a neat little match. It was a nice quick paced match where both guys looked good. The ending was abrupt. I would have liked to see another 5 minutes tagged onto the match. Overall, it was good and deserves to be considered for a disk. It will be a close one though. I think more people should see Sam Houston in competetive matches. Sam Houston is wrestler I've seen more live than any other wrestler. He always worked hard.
