Posted October 12, 200717 yr comment_5422745 UWF Tag Titles: Rick Steiner & Sting © vs. The Lightning Express (Brad Armstrong & Tim Horner) (5/17/87) LX used their speed and quickness to keep the champs off their feet early on in the match and Hot Stuff was complaining about the partial referee (his dad Tommy.) Armstrong would miss a shoulderblock into the corner leading to the champs taking control but that would change on a bad looking spot by Sting as he jumped on the second rope trying to hit a back elbow but fell off the ropes and flat on his ass. The action would be back and forth until a double collision with Horner and Steiner then Gilbert hitting Horner from the apron as his dad had his back turned. LX would go back to their gameplan at the beginning keeping the champs on the mat but Horner tried to take a shot at Hot Stuff leading to Sting jumping him from behind. Horner takes a good beating here especially from Steiner but would kick out of every pin attempt. Armstrong would get the hot tag and he was on fire leading up to the 4-way brawl. Sting was pounding on Armstrong in the corner while Gilbert plans to hit Armstrong with a foreign object but Armstrong reversed and Sting got nailed instead. This is the start of the Sting face turn. Very good match and a nomination.
October 14, 200717 yr comment_5422774 I thought this was a solid match, and a low end nomination. I personally don't see it makeing a disk though, but it could. I've always liked the Lightning Express, and they looked good here. Steiner was gassed to the gills, and blew Sting away as a worker here. This was probaly the best I've seen Sting in Mid-South/UWF, but he still had spots of clumsiness. I thought he early portion was good especially Horner and Sting in the 1st minute. I thought Armstrong's arm work on Sting and Steiner was simple yet effective. The beating Horner took was good. The heels just work over his back was simple, but effective. The hot tag wasn't as hot as I hoped for considering the beating Horner took. The Finish looked great, and the timing was spot on though. I find it kind of amazing of Meltzer's talking point that Gilbert predicted that Sting would become a good worker before anyone else did. From watching his early work I don't see it at all. I see a guy who is clumsy with some atletic ability, good body, and lacking charisma here. Back to the match, I don't really see this makeing a disk, but it will be close.
October 27, 200717 yr comment_5423174 I liked this match much more than shoe and agree with Kris. The LX were so good at double teaming and carrying Steiner and Sting to a good match. This should definitely go to the next round.
December 15, 200717 yr comment_5425301 I thought this was a perfectly fine tag match, but really isn't up to the tag match standared of this set. Pretty bland for the most part not even a ton of crazy Sting and Steiner offense, finish was fun, but I am going no here.
