Posted October 15, 200717 yr comment_5422808 Mid South Wrestling Volume 043 Produced:8-4-83 • “J.Y.D an honorary citizen of New Orleans & honorary col. in gov’t • VTR interview with Duggan & T.A • Magnum T.A vs. Larry Rose PAS: Misc. • Mr. Wrestling II vs. Boris Zurkhov PAS: This was pretty fun, Zurkhov sucked, but II was pretty great, he had an awesome looking takedown and amature ride. • King Kong Bundy vs. Dr. Death PAS: This was a blast, two big dudes kind of awkwardly throwing each other around. Bundy was really good at this point, and I loved Doc Death getting pinned for 3, but kicking out at 4. Williams was super green at this point, but this match was great. I am throwing it on the block. • Bill Rathke vs. The Missing Link • Ken Johnson vs. Hacksaw Reed PAS: Squashes • Art Crews & Tim Horner vs. Rip Rogers & Doug Vines PAS: Weird competive undercard match which goes to TV time. Art Crews looks just like my Dad did in 1983 Produced:8-11-83 • Interview with Reed - VTR from New Orleans - Reed vs. Duggan • Interview with Reed - VTR from Superdome - J.Y.D vs. Butch Reed PAS: Both of these Superdome clips were awesome, it is too bad there isn't fuller versions of either match out there. JYD v. Reed was fucking great looking, and Reed is hillarious on commentary. Should at least make an extra • Interview with Akbar - VTR from Superdome - Kamala vs. Tommy Rich PAS: Akbar was great doing play by play here • Interview with Wrestling II - VTR from New Orleans - Wrestling II vs. Wild Bill Irwin • Tim Horner & Bill Rathke vs. King Kong Bundy & Boris Zurkhov • Ken Johnson vs. The Missing Link • Johnny Rich & Dr. Death vs. Larry Hare & Bill Rose
November 19, 200717 yr comment_5424187 King Kong Bundy vs. “Dr. Death” Steve Williams (8/3/83) Doc had got the pin on Bundy on the last week of TV so this is a revenge match for Bundy. Doc was green as grass here but was just so powerful that he could throw Bundy around using amateur moves. Bundy put Doc in the Avalanche easily wanting the 5 count but Doc would kick out at 4 shocking Bundy. Doc would roll to the floor to regroup but Bundy would try to slam him off the apron with Doc reversing it for a nearfall. They would then engage in a slugfest throwing bombs with Doc hitting the Stampede then slamming Boris Zuhkov off the top rope for a shitty DQ finish. Bundy would go to piledrive Doc but he would backdrop him then hit running shoulder tackles on both Bundy & Boris. This was a damn good big-man match especially for Doc at this time of his career. The ending is the sticking point for me as it just kills the whole momentum of the match but was great in getting Doc over. The match is what counts though so this is a no for me. I also love Akbar on commentary for the Kamala/Rich match with Akbar getting shots in at Tommy being protected by GCW.
