Posted October 22, 200717 yr comment_5423007 I actually really loved this match. Just a great Memphis tag, Boyd really stinks, but he was fine as a face in peril. Porkchops was on fire, just throwing hands on everyone, Gilbert and the Nightmare were working really well with Cash, and the finish was awesome. I am nominating this
October 22, 200717 yr comment_5423010 Here is what I wrote originally Eddie Gilbert & The Nightmare vs. The Bruise Brothers (Mad Dog Boyd & Porkchop Cash) (12/31/85) I’ll give the Bruisers credit, their gimmick was over with the crowd for sure. Bruisers jump Gilbert & Nightmare at the bell using their briefcase to run them out of the ring. Gilbert is his normal great chickenshit heel self here running to Humperdink for some consoling and all of his mannerisms are awesome. One thing about the Bruisers though, Chop was fun to watch but goddamn did Mad Dog Boyd suck dick in the ring. This wasn’t actually half-bad, as Chop & Gilbert were really good when they were in the ring. I didn't like this nearly as much as Phil did and I'm going no with this one.
October 22, 200717 yr comment_5423015 This was shockingly satisfying. I mean there was no reason for this to be anywhere near this good. I am assuming that Nightmare and Mad Dog Boyd had a seventies feud in Arkansaw or something as again no reason for them to work this well together. Porkshop Cash's jet li speed on his drunken shadowboxing may have been my favorite part. Really really good finish.
October 27, 200717 yr comment_5423156 What I wrote in the tape folder... I also need to rewatch the Bruise-Gilbert/Nightmare match. My initial thoughts are it does not go on. It was a really good layout but these guys aren't very good IMO. I am on the fence so I want to know where TOM K or Loss stand. Tom, is that a yes on your part? If so, I'll send it to the next round.
October 27, 200717 yr Author comment_5423182 Tom is out and about, but I guarentee this is a yes vote from him, he was digging the fuck out of that match
October 27, 200717 yr comment_5423185 If this holds up, can you imagine what it would have been liek to see this card in person? Eddie Gilbert & The Nightmare vs. The Bruise Brothers Ted DiBiase vs. Dick Murdoch Buzz Sawyer v Butch Reed (No DQ Dog collar match) Dick Slater vs. Hacksaw Duggan
October 27, 200717 yr Author comment_5423186 Yeah fuck, that would have been insane, was their a NA title match on that show too?
October 27, 200717 yr comment_5423188 I think one of those is a NA match. All the NA contenders from the time are listed.
November 18, 200717 yr comment_5424131 I could go either way, but I'm slightly leaning yes. It's probably going to end up the lowest-ranked tag match on the set overall, though, because I don't think this is the kind of match most people like. Still, really good layout and great showcase for Eddie Gilbert.
November 18, 200717 yr comment_5424133 That was the most depressing endorsement of a match I ever read.
December 17, 200717 yr comment_5425454 So I just went and watched this match up on House Show 81 an 86 and it had a lot of fun schtick at the begining and a neat finish but all the actual wrestling inbetween those tow things was an absolute mess. None of the matchups really worked at all and just was ugly and filled with bad execution.. I got worried that my judgement about this match might have been wrong. So I went and rewatched the 12/31/85 match. And thankfully my judgement wasn't wrong as this is better than I remember it being. Your opening heel schtick is still amusing if not as elabortate as it was in the other HS match. But then once the actual wrestling started everything fell into place. Boyd mostly eats stuff and shows fighting spirit which he does really well. but he also does opening exchange spots with Nightmare well. Cash does less actual in ring stuff than Boyd which is a weird choice but his in ring stuff is still fun. His belly dancer escape from the full nelson put a big smile on my face. The finish for the match with the monkeflip roll through is as good as I remember it being. This whole thing is so much better than I remember it being and I remembered liking it alot. High endorsement to push this forward.
December 17, 200717 yr comment_5425481 Hey I was totally prepared to eat crow and then it ended up being better than I expected. Don't blame me for the match being good.
December 17, 200717 yr comment_5425493 Boyd is totally fine in this one. He sucks everywhere else but fine here. Want to confirm that you're putting on the match that ends with monkey flip roll through cause thats te good one. The other one sucks and doesn't belong anywhere near a set.
December 17, 200717 yr comment_5425504 No, I am pretty sure I didn't like this one. I will take the most pedestrian Fans-MX match over this anyday. In fact, I watched it again when i put it in 4 hour mode.
December 17, 200717 yr comment_5425515 This was a ton better than Nightmare v Jake roberts and a ton better than the really pedestrian MX v Fantastics matches. We have something like five MX v Fantastics matches on the set (including the six man with Duggan). Fantastics v MX isn't Fabs v Guerreros, isn't Slater v Reed, isn't Slater v Roberts, or RNR v Dirty White Boys. Its not a series where each one makes you appreciate the others more. I really like the six man and one of the other Fantastics v MX matches but really putting on two many mediocre versions is going to really hurt the good ones as you can call all the spots.
