There is a contract signing for a Mid-South Tag Titles match for next week with RnR/MX.

Mark Ragin vs. Jerry Grey (5/9/84)

This is Mark’s debut and he comes out to Thriller and dances to Billie Jean as the crowd goes nuts.

The Rock n Roll Express (Robert Gibson & Ricky Morton) vs. “Nature Boy” Buddy Landell & Masao Ito (5/9/84)

Competitive match for a little bit but RnR win this fairly easily. Wrestling II & Wrestling III come out and challenge the RnR to come in the ring and give them a title shot. RnR said they just got through and are leaving but the heels have stolen the RnR’s vests and tear them up in the ring much to the dismay of RnR.

Magnum TA vs. Mr. Wrestling III (Hercules Hernandez) (5/9/84)

III uses his power to keep Magnum at bay early in the match with a bearhug being his prominent move. Magnum would use forearm smashes to break out and hit a belly- to-belly but II would distract Magnum letting III recover and he loaded up his knee hitting Magnum for the DQ. It’s 2-on-1 until the RnR makes the save.

“Dr. Death” Steve Williams vs. Nikolai Volkoff (5/9/84)

Nik pounded on Doc early and gets a piledriver for an early nearfall. Volkoff keeps the attack going but Doc makes a comeback hitting a spear followed up with an elbow and the Oklahoma Stampede to upset Volkoff.

Terry Taylor vs. The Shadow (5/9/84)

Whoever this Shadow was he knew to wrestle and play to the crowd. This was actually a pretty fun little match as Shadow showed some skill but wasn’t enough for Taylor and his five-arm.

Hacksaw Duggan vs. Krusher Khruschev (5/9/84)

This is a brawl at the bell as Krusher jumps Duggan and posts him shoulder first on the floor. Krusher takes the match back in the ring but Duggan would catch Krusher with elbows before missing a spear that would send Duggan to the floor. Duggan would trip Krusher and wrapped his right knee around the ringpost. Duggan starts working on the leg relentlessly before laying in the punches and his mongolian chop. Duggan would hit the spear but Volkoff & Reed would come out with shaving cream. They are planning on shaving Duggan’s head but Dr. Death, Taylor, & RnR clean out the ring.

They show highlights of Magnum beating II for the North American title in Tulsa on 5/13.

Bill Watts interviews Sonny King and they go over Landell & Reed attacking JYD at WMC Studios in Memphis tarring and feathering him. Reed calls King “John Shaft” and there is a verbal debate that Watts breaks up. This was great stuff and Reed’s shirt here is tremendous.

No DQ for the Mid-South Tag Titles vs. $50,000: The Rock n Roll Express (Robert Gibson & Ricky Morton) © vs. The Midnight Express (Dennis Condrey & Bobby Eaton) (5/23/84)

Carl Fergie takes Cornette’s tennis racket from him as the match starts to make this more even. Great action early on as RnR are just too fast and too smooth for the MX to even try and mount an attack. Morton throws Eaton over the top rope but there is no DQ and Cornette is angry but he wanted the rules. Morton would miss a dropkick as Condrey held the ropes and that would be the beginning of the MX offensive barrage. Eaton hits a nice powerslam for a nearfall and Condrey starts dropping knees for another nearfall then chunks Morton over the top rope to the floor. Morton would get back in the ring and jumped his way to a hot tag. Gibson came in but as he ran the ropes Cornette pulled the top rope down and Gibson crashed to the floor. Eaton tried to post Gibson but it would be reversed and Eaton is juicing. Gibson comes back in but hits head first with Morton who had an O’Connor Roll on Condrey but he pushed him off. Condrey climbs up top and goes to splash Morton but Gibson would jump on Morton to take the blow. Gibson would backdrop a running Condrey over the top rope and would catch Eaton with a sleeper who kicked Ronnie West to the floor. Cornette then sprayed ether on a rag and would put Gibson to sleep as the fans are angry as hell. West is back in the ring and Eaton covers for the victory. Ross interviews the new champs after the match and Cornette gloats. This was great stuff and a definite nomination.

“Nature Boy” Buddy Landell vs. Mark Ragin (5/23/84)

Ragin does his dance moves but Landell attacks him until Ragin catches him with some dropkicks but Landell would chunk Ragin over the top rope for the DQ. Landell would slam Ragin on the floor when Sonny King would come out and attack Landell. King would beat on Landell in the ring then started brawling with Reed until the 2-on-1 advantage kicked in but Reed would miss with a soupbone on Landell and King would clean house.

Jim Ross interviews Mr. Wrestling III at ringside about his match against Magnum TA next week for the title and he said that it’s a young man’s sport with II having nothing to say about this match being made because he lost the title.

We definitly need to put the JYD being tarred and feathered and upset Sonny King as an extra

No DQ for the Mid-South Tag Titles vs. $50,000: The Rock n Roll Express (Robert Gibson & Ricky Morton) © vs. The Midnight Express (Dennis Condrey & Bobby Eaton) (5/23/84)

This was a contest to see who could take the craziest bump over the top rope. Eaton wins by flying over the top on and landing on his knees. Not really a traditional tag match, much more of a brawl, I love me an ether finish. Fun stuff.

I agree about the JYD angle. It was sad to see JYD apologize to Lance Russell to dripping excessively, and then walk away in anguish. The Rock n Roll v. Midnight Express match was a lot of fun. I think the ref may have taken the most extravagant bump of all in this match. And I was touched to see a local seamstress present Robert and Ricky with new vests before the match.
