Posted October 27, 200717 yr comment_5423128 Sting vs. Mike Boyette (7/1/87) Squash. Big Bubba Rogers vs. Davey Haskins (7/1/87) Squash. Steve Cox vs. Shane Douglas (7/1/87) Rookie match of the week and it was pretty decent. Cox gets injured going into the corner and Shane tells the referee to stop the match because he doesn’t want to win by countout. Gary Young shows back up saying the same shit from last week. UWF TV Title: “Hot Stuff” Eddie Gilbert © vs. “Gentleman” Chris Adams (7/1/87) Adams comes out saying that Gilbert picks and chooses guys he can beat for his title matches so he challenges him to a match. Good back and forth action to start the match and when we come back from commercial Gilbert holds on to the ropes as Adams misses a dropkick. Adams would reverse an abdominal stretch but Gilbert would pull Carl Fergie into them knocking him down. Gilbert goes up top but gets a fist to the gut on the way down then a Superkick. Adams makes the cover but Fergie calls for the bell on a DQ, which shows the Dusty influence. Gilbert & Murdoch debut the Top 10 losers list and this is phenomenal. Gilbert getting in the John Gilliam mention is phenomenal for those who know of their background. The Lightning Express (Brad Armstrong & Tim Horner) vs. The Enforcer (Doug Gilbert) & Gary Young (7/1/87) The champs look good. LX would cut a promo after the match and Akbar comes out offering them a spot in Devastation Inc. that they turn down then get destroyed by Bubba & Bart who steal the belts. Gordy cuts a promo about Devastation Inc. with John Ayers. Western States Heavyweight Title: Barry Windham © vs. “Capt. Redneck” Dick Murdoch (7/11/87) Taylor is on commentary for this and is pretty funny. This is one is going long and there is some really good solid wrestling early in the match. Murdoch throws a great dropkick for a nearfall before going back to work on Windham’s left arm, which was his main focus. Windham would hit a neckbreaker on Murdoch who sold it awesomly doing the Curly spot and Windham followed with the first punch of the match for a nearfall. Murdoch would roll to the floor where Windham would hit an atomic drop before going back to the ring but would go back to the floor for a slugfest that Murdoch got the better of. Murdoch would try to suplex Windham off the apron back into the ring but Windham would fall on him for a nearfall and they would run head first into each other off the ropes with Windham falling to the floor. We now go into full slugfest mode with both men just beating the shit out of each other with huge bombs and Murdoch’s selling is so great here. Murdoch would go up to the top rope and his mission trying to climb up was awesome and then he would get press slammed for his trouble. Windham would go for the figure-four but Murdoch would hit him with the microphone to break the hold as Gilbert distracts Carl Fergie. Windham is juicing from that shot and Murdoch would go to work on the cut with elbow smashes and punches but can’t really do a lot due to selling his left leg. Windham would kick the leg whenever he could and Murdoch sold it like death before finally locking the figure-four back in but Murdoch would get to the ropes. We are back to a slugfest with 30 seconds left and Murdoch would hit the brainbuster with less than 10 seconds left but Carl Fergie was distracted with Gilbert as time ran out. This was fucking awesome and a slam dunk nomination. UWF Heavyweight Title: Big Bubba Rogers © vs. “Dr. Death” Steve Williams (7/11/87) Dusty will be tied up with Akbar with the bullrope. Doc starts throwing bombs at the bell but Bubba would drop Doc with a clothesline as he tried a football tackle but Doc would get back up throwing more bombs before missing another football tackle in the corner. Bubba would lock in a modified cobra clutch before going to his striking game but would try a piledriver and missed. Doc tries to slam Bubba but he would block it and resumed his offensive attack. Doc would get a second wind soon though and slammed Bubba twice, which would send him to the floor. We go to a commercial break after Bubba enters the ring and when we come back both men are on their knees just going to war on each other with Bubba juicing. Doc would hit Bubba with a nutshot then followed with a dropkick but would knock heads with Bubba sending both to the mat. Bubba would get up first and locked in an armbar on Doc who would get up and started pounding Bubba to break the hold but would get poked in the eyes. Bubba would climb up top and hit a diving body press for a nearfall and Akbar would get on the apron with Dusty jerking him off, which got Bubba’s attention so Doc grabbed him and put him in the Oklahoma Stampede to win the title. They show the locker room celebration with the babyfaces afterward. They follow up with a great video to We Are The Champions. This was just a hard hitting brawl and a definite nomination. Chris Adams does an interview with Missy Hyatt about Terry Taylor’s press conference wondering where he is at. UWF TV Title: “Hot Stuff” Eddie Gilbert © vs. Davey Haskins (7/25/87) Gilbert is great here and this was a pretty good little match. They show a Ron Simmons match from WTBS to hype his entrance. Terry Taylor has his press conference which is hilarious because the referees are the main ones asking questions. Taylor ends up bashing Adams with a chair and this is just tremendous in a funny way. Handicap Match: Big Bubba Rogers vs. Bobby Howell & Craig Whitford (7/25/87) Squash. They show RnR Express/MX match from the Cap Centre. Black Bart & The Terminator vs. Bob Bradley & Ron Ellis (7/25/87) Squash. The Fabulous Freebirds (Michael “PS” Hayes & Buddy Roberts) vs. Mike Boyette & Bob Bradley (7/21/87) Boyette has his hair in braids and with Missy Hyatt’s commentary this is a hilarious segment. Steve Cox vs. Rick Steiner (7/21/87) Really competitive match with Cox coming along pretty good but Cox gets chunked to the floor and Murdoch attacks him for the DQ. The commentary for this match was hilarious along with Murdoch’s shirt and he cuts a 5-star burial promo on Sting.
