Posted November 1, 200717 yr comment_5423344 Buddy Roberts vs. The Terminator (8/3/87) This match is JIP. Roberts would hit the bulldog on Terminator but Bart & Bubba would run in to jump Buddy. Terminator puts the claw on Buddy and he juices heavy until the babyface locker room makes the save. “Gentleman” Chris Adams vs. Mike Boyette (8/3/87) The streak continues. Steve Cox wins the Rookie of the Year trophy and Gary Young comes out dressed up as a woman attacking him and stealing the trophy. This was great. Rick Steiner & Terry Taylor vs. Shane Douglas & Davey Haskins (8/3/87) The rookies get some offense in and make this really competitive but Steiner & Taylor are just too much for them as Taylor finishes Haskins with a figure-four leglock after Steiner clubbed him in the back of the head. UWF Tag Titles: The Lightning Express (Brad Armstrong & Tim Horner) © vs. Big Bubba Rogers & The Terminator (8/3/87) Bart was supposed to be in this but Akbar pulled him out and put Terminator in because he wants Bart fresh for matches against Dr. Death. LX uses their speed advantage and solid teamwork early on to keep the pressure on the heels but it seemed that Horner was about to eat a Bubba Slam as they went to commercial. Sure enough when we come back Horner is getting his ass kicked with the heels being relentless. Bubba & Terminator look good here pounding on Horner but after a double head collision Brad would get the hot tag and the 4-way brawl was on. Armstrong would get the russian legsweep on Terminator but Bart would run in using the branding iron. Adams & Sting would make the save. “Gorgeous” Gary Young vs. Chief White Eagle (8/3/87) Young comes out to the Superman theme and in a brand new robe. Shaska brings him his trophy after the match in a hilarious promo. Young is great in this role. Steve Cox vs. The Red Devil (8/3/87) Squash. Buddy Roberts vs. Mike Boyette (8/3/87) Boyette’s streak goes on but this was pretty fun stuff. UWF TV Title: “Hot Stuff” Eddie Gilbert © vs. Shane Douglas (8/3/87) Gilbert cuts a great promo before the match and Sting was supposed to face Gilbert but Taylor attacked him before the match with a steel chair and Sting did a serious blade job on the side of the head. Gilbert & Taylor celebrate in the ring but the referee says there must be a match so Douglas comes out. Gilbert is happy early in the match but Douglas gives him all he’s got until Gilbert asks for a handshake which ends up with Douglas being thrown on the floor. The crowd chants WE WANT STING as Gilbert suplexes Douglas back in the ring for a nearfall. Gilbert would lock in a sleeper but Douglas would fight up before eating a reverse neckbreaker for another nearfall. Gilbert would miss a diving fistdrop off the top rope and Douglas would mount a comeback before being thrown into the referee. Sting would come back all bandaged up and would hit a clothesline on Gilbert with Douglas covering for a three count to win the title. The babyfaces have a big celebration in the ring after the match as the crowd goes nuts and this was a fun segment. “Gentleman” Chris Adams vs. Terry Taylor (8/3/87) Taylor would attack Adams from the bell but Adams would fight back making this a slugfest. Lots of great punches thrown here by both men especially Adams before it goes to the floor. Adams would continue his attack on the floor bashing Taylor into the railing, which dazed Taylor so much he ran headfirst into the ringpost as we go to commercial. We come back with Taylor having the advantage and Gilbert at ringside as the crowd chants WE WANT STING. Adams would mount a comeback though throwing some more punches then hitting a high backdrop on Taylor. Adams starts punching from the mount as the fans chant along with Taylor rolling the floor where he would catch Adams with a punch but Adams would still chase him back in the ring. Taylor caught Adams as he was coming in but Adams would counter a suplex from the apron for a nearfall. Adams hits a piledriver then climbs up top but Gilbert would shake the rope and Adams would fall down on his knee with Taylor getting up and going for the figure-four. Taylor locks it in with Adams writhing in pain and Taylor grabs the ropes then Gilbert’s arms as TV time runs out. This was some really good stuff that with a finish could’ve been nomination material but we will never know.
