Sting vs. The Enforcer (Doug Gilbert) (8/1/87)

Pretty much a squash.

Jim Cornette & the MX do a promo from the Dome hyping up their match with the LX.

Gary Young then does a promo that is fantastic that’s interrupted by Steve Cox.

UWF Tag Titles: The Lightning Express (Brad Armstrong & Tim Horner) vs. The Midnight Express (“Beautiful” Bobby Eaton & “Sweet” Stan Lane) (8/1/87)

Terry Taylor joins Ross on commentary and he is fucking awesome here. Armstrong throws some great dropkicks early on Eaton that would send him to the floor and the action was fast and furious early on in this match with LX dominating MX. MX would get the advantage using their great double-team moves on Horner to keep him on their side of the ring so they can get the offense in. Eaton was really great here with his elbows both standing and diving. Horner fights when he can but MX are really good at keeping him from making the hot tag but there would be a double collision that would let Horner get the tag to Armstrong. Armstrong is a house of fire and the 4-way brawl is on with Armstrong taking Eaton to the floor where Cornette would jab him with the racket but Armstrong would counter out of another attack nailing both Cornette & Eaton. Taylor would leave commentary to nail Armstrong in the back with the racket with Eaton rolling him to the ring. Eaton would cover Armstrong for the 3 count with Taylor cheering them on at ringside but Carl Fergie would show up and told Edward Faulk what happened and he reversed his decision giving the LX the match by DQ. Screwy finish but a very solid match and I’m throwing it on the block.

Double Bullrope Match: “The American Dream” Dusty Rhodes & “Dr. Death” Steve Williams vs. “Hot Stuff” Eddie Gilbert & “Capt. Redneck” Dick Murdoch (8/1/87)

Akbar & Bart were in the ring before the match with Akbar challenging Doc and it led up to all four men attacking Doc & Dusty. Doc & Dusty are juicing but they would make a comeback soon after they were tied to Gilbert & Murdoch. Dusty throws some great bell shots on Murdoch and Doc likewise on Gilbert as all four men are now juicing. Gilbert’s selling of the bell shots is tremendous. Gilbert & Murdoch would get the advantage back using the bell of course and they choke Doc & Dusty with Dusty bleeding all over the place. The heels’ advantage wouldn’t last long as Dusty & Doc go to town on the heels with everything they had but as TV time runs out the heels would get the advantage back. This was a great wild brawl.

“Gorgeous” Gary Young vs. Chief White Eagle (8/3/87)

Young comes out to the Superman theme and in a brand new robe. Shaska brings him his trophy after the match in a hilarious promo. Young is great in this role.

Steve Cox vs. The Red Devil (8/3/87)

Squash.

Buddy Roberts vs. Mike Boyette (8/3/87)

Boyette’s streak goes on but this was pretty fun stuff.

UWF TV Title: “Hot Stuff” Eddie Gilbert © vs. Shane Douglas (8/3/87)

Gilbert cuts a great promo before the match and Sting was supposed to face Gilbert but Taylor attacked him before the match with a steel chair and Sting did a serious blade job on the side of the head. Gilbert & Taylor celebrate in the ring but the referee says there must be a match so Douglas comes out. Gilbert is happy early in the match but Douglas gives him all he’s got until Gilbert asks for a handshake which ends up with Douglas being thrown on the floor. The crowd chants WE WANT STING as Gilbert suplexes Douglas back in the ring for a nearfall. Gilbert would lock in a sleeper but Douglas would fight up before eating a reverse neckbreaker for another nearfall. Gilbert would miss a diving fistdrop off the top rope and Douglas would mount a comeback before being thrown into the referee. Sting would come back all bandaged up and would hit a clothesline on Gilbert with Douglas covering for a three count to win the title. The babyfaces have a big celebration in the ring after the match as the crowd goes nuts and this was a fun segment.

“Gentleman” Chris Adams vs. Terry Taylor (8/3/87)

Taylor would attack Adams from the bell but Adams would fight back making this a slugfest. Lots of great punches thrown here by both men especially Adams before it goes to the floor. Adams would continue his attack on the floor bashing Taylor into the railing, which dazed Taylor so much he ran headfirst into the ringpost as we go to commercial. We come back with Taylor having the advantage and Gilbert at ringside as the crowd chants WE WANT STING. Adams would mount a comeback though throwing some more punches then hitting a high backdrop on Taylor. Adams starts punching from the mount as the fans chant along with Taylor rolling the floor where he would catch Adams with a punch but Adams would still chase him back in the ring. Taylor caught Adams as he was coming in but Adams would counter a suplex from the apron for a nearfall. Adams hits a piledriver then climbs up top but Gilbert would shake the rope and Adams would fall down on his knee with Taylor getting up and going for the figure-four. Taylor locks it in with Adams writhing in pain and Taylor grabs the ropes then Gilbert’s arms as TV time runs out. This was some really good stuff that with a finish could’ve been nomination material but we will never know.

Buddy Roberts vs. Tau Lugo (8/12/87)

Tau is a Samoan who got a gig because they were in Los Angeles.

Ron Simmons vs. Kokina (Yokozuna) (8/12/87)

Kokina also got a gig because they were in the LA and would get squashed here.

The First Family does a great interview especially Murdoch.

NWA World Tag Titles: The Rock n Roll Express (Robert Gibson & Ricky Morton) © vs. Black Bart & Big Bubba Rogers (8/12/87)

Now this is a different matchup for sure. RnR would hang tough early but Morton would get crushed with a sidewalk slam by Bubba for a nearfall. Bart would tag in and along with Bubba would just brutalize Morton. Morton would make a quick comeback though getting a backslide on Bart for a nearfall but the heels would go back to action using their power game to keep Morton away from the corner. Morton would hit Bart with a kneelift then made the hot tag to Gibson who started pounding on both heels before Morton could join in. RnR would hit their double dropkick on both heels when the Terminator would show attacking Gibson for the DQ then putting the claw on Gibson until the Freebirds made the save for a wild brawl. This was an okay match.

Steve Cox & Davey Haskins vs. Mike Boyette & The Red Devil (8/18/87)

The rookies get a spotlight match and Gary Young shows up.

Misty Blue vs. Comrade Orga (8/18/87)

This was not good.

Shaska Whatley comes out and introduces Tiger Conway Jr. as his new partner forming the Jive Tones.

The Fabulous Freebirds (Terry “Bamm Bamm” Gordy, Michael “PS” Hayes, & Buddy Roberts) vs. Ron Ellis, The Enforcer (Doug Gilbert), & Killer Khalifa (The Libyan) (8/18/87)

Squash.

UWF TV Title: Shane Douglas © vs. Rick Steiner (8/18/87)

Steiner started this off with a brutal backdrop suplex on Shane and just kept up with the stiff offense as he unloaded on Douglas. Steiner also works some good mat offense here but Douglas is still green as grass here although he tries hard. Steiner would backdrop Shane on top of Edward Faulk then threw Shane to the floor but rolled him back in for a pin when Faulk would DQ Steiner for throwing Shane over the top rope. Steiner was great here.

The Lightning Express (Brad Armstrong & Tim Horner) vs. Angel of Death & Shaska Whatley (8/18/87)

LX looked really good here and Angel/Shaska were fine together as well. Armstrong would get a sunset flip off the top rope on Angel as he tried to suplex Horner for the win. Good little match and afterwards the champs would cut a promo that would bring out Gilbert & Taylor for a debate.

Dusty finish really hurts this, as it was only on the cusp up to that point. The MX heat segment was great, but the LX control segment was really boring. Tag bar is too high for this match to clear.
