Choose the wrestler who you think belongs more in a tournament of the greatest of the promotion from 1985 to 2005. Please do not factor their work in other companies into your decision. Rikishi. I am a big fan of Terry Funk, but he flaked out on the promotion rather than contribute. Besides, any respectable WWE tournament needs samoan representation.

Basically, I refuse to vote for Rikishi because I view him as a waste and side-show attraction.

Probably the only time he'll get voted over Terry Funk on anything ... ever. Has decent matches dating back to his jump from WCW in the early 90s and survived bad gimmick after bad gimmick before becoming one of the top babyfaces of the hottest year in the company. Funk is worlds better overall, but never stuck around long enough to make much difference. Both had main event runs in the company, so this was a hard decision.

Terry's contributions to the WWF in 1985 and 1986, as one of the few heels who was willing to job clean to Hogan regularly on TV and a tag guy, as well as his run in 1998, puts him far above Rikishi ever accomplished in the WWF.

Rikishi was decent for his size, but he really can't contend with a man in his mid-50's doing moonsaults off the top to the outside. And that's without even taking the mid-80's Funk into consideration.

Rikishi. I can't imagine Funk being any more over than Rikishi was at his peak (having only seen his 97/97 run, but I doubt he was too over earlier on). At the Headshrinkers were kinda cool.

Funk because I know he's done more than Rikishi. Not to mention he helped out ECW a lot. The Sulton sucked.

I go for Terry Funk for two reasons...

 

1. His short run in 1986 when he was teaming with his brother getting decent matches out of far inferior opponents and

 

2. While I hated the Chainsaw Charlie gimmick, his Wrestlemania gimmicky hardore match was far better with him in there than if any other wrestler was in there. I can't stand Rikishi's dance. Horrible, horrible stuff.

Riskishi. As this is a WWF/E list i have to go with Kish, otherwise Funk woulda won this hands down.

Terry Funk. I'm a sucker for his skits with the Funk family on TNT, and his tag matches with Mankind were good for Attitude-era matches. Had a good match with Foley on TV that was one of the better TV matches at the time.

 

Rikishi, while a solid midcarder, showed a lack of ability of playing heel, something Funk showed (albeit in two different eras). The Fatu and Sultan eras are forgettable, and his notable contribution as Rikishi was "I did it for the Rock." I'm going with the Funker here.

Rikishi. He was a tag champ in the Headshrinkers and with Scott Taylor and an IC champ. He got stuck with two shitty gimmicks in between the Samoan savage gimmick and Rikishi. In early 2000, he was probably the #3 face in the company behind Rock and Foley.

 

Funk had a brief run in 96 and another brief run in 98, Kish was there from 92-2004, with a few interuptions.

I cannot, in good conscience, vote for Rikishi over Funk in any kind of list. I can remember Funk attacking Mel Phillips as if it was yesterday, but outside of the lame attempt to run Rock over, I can't remember a single skit or angle that 'Kish has ever done.

Only because most of Funk's better work is outside of the organization. Rikishi was a big contributor as a Headshrinker, and then as a part of Too Cool, which were super-over at their peak.

Funk never really did anything special in the WWF in this time frame while Rikishi was involved in a hot Too Cool group (who were pretty damn over in 2000).
