Rick Martel vs. Tama (MSG 7/25/87)

This is similar but even better than the Philly match. I liked Martel’s leg work a lot. The nerve hold is long, but only hurts the match a little bit for me. I thought Haku’s interference was effective in this too. Tama’s bumps in this are spectacular, especially during Martel’s comeback. Great finishing stretch as well even with the weird ring bell confusion. I nominated both matches. Only one can make it. Let’s discuss.

STRONG to EASY NOMINATION

I rewatched this and stand by the SOLID NOMINATION. I also liked the leg work but not enough to add 6 minutes to the match. The ending was great with the Haku interference but not a fan of the bell going off prematurely and confusing my slow self. I think i preferred the shorter match but it will be interesting to compare later on.

Solid nomination as well. Different from the earlier match for the first half with the Martel ankle work sequence. After that it follows a similar pattern to the 7-18 match, including the nerve holds and finish. There are enough differences between the two singles matches where you could argue for both going on or just one of these two (which will come down to if you prefer the Martel ankle work portion of this match over the match that does not have this segment).
