Posted June 6Jun 6 comment_6030836 RODDY PIPER vs TONGA KID (11/26/1984; WWF MSG; New York, NY; 00:12:24) - The crowd was insane when it was announced Jimy Snuka was back. Piper slaps Kid over and over so Tonga gives him one back and a huge headbutt. Kid lights Piper up and Piper tries to bail but Tonga Kid drags him in and headbutts him and punches him and this pandemonium. Piper does a karate chop sending Kid to the mat and mocks Kid. Kid is setting up and chops him when he turns around. Everyone erupts. Tonga does not let up. Piper escapes by dropping Kid with a back suplex. He tosses kid out a couple times but before he could attack, he saw Jimmy and went back inside for safety. The crowd has not let up the entire time. Inside he bites Tonga’s head, spits at Jimmy and gives Tonga whiplash with a double throat chop. Roddy mocks Snuka and hooks on the sleeper. Kid is fading… no, he’s fighting back and milking this crowd. He clotheslines Roddy with the top rope. Piper fucks up slamming a Samoan in the turnbuckle. Tonga fucking starts pop locking. Oh shit… Tonga flying body press and Piper slams him outside. Orton attacks Tonga on the floor. Piper joins. Snuka saves. Snuka and Orton double team Snuka. Snuka hulks up. This is crazy. EASIEST OF NOMINATIONS. The Garden is wild. If this had blood, it would be my #1.

June 6Jun 6 comment_6030855 Piper's coat is unbelievable. Cowboy Bob is in his corner. The pop Snuka gets is insane. The heat for this entire match is just ridiculous. The opening slap exchange is amazing with Tonga getting the better of Piper & Piper flailing all over the place. Women are shrieking over this. Piper shows his veteran savvy by doing a DOUBLE LEAP FROG including a reverse one & catching Tonga with a chop. Tremendous sequence. Piper takes Tonga down with a back suplex & starts getting really cocky. He puts in a chin lock. Tonga shaking his ass out of the chin lock is amazing & gets a crazy pop. Tonga's got Piper on his heels again. The spot where Piper gets caught throat first on the rope is nuts. How loose are those damn ropes? Tonga misses a charge & takes a HUGE bump to the floor. We get an awesome stand-off on the floor with both guys & their seconds. It ends in a wild two on two brawl that causes MSG to shake. Piper & Orton high tail it & Snuka vows revenge on the house mic. This is a wonderful piece of business with insane heat. It's also a critical angle that leads to the first WM main event. EASY NOMINATION
June 6Jun 6 comment_6030879 The key ingredient here is Jimmy Snuka. From the moment he is announced the crowd just kicks up to an amazing level and they sustain it all the way through. Piper is great as usual and Tonga holds up his end very well (bonus points for the dancing). Both wrestlers just lean into the amazing crowd and the crowd is there for every beat. The whole combination makes this a nomination, so add me to the list that says this should be on the set.
