In a sense it's a bit like the Kamala cage match from Toronto in that the same brawl was done better elsewhere, but I think for a feud this big it's worth a nomination.
June 10Jun 10 comment_6031072 Hulk Hogan vs. Paul Orndorff (Cage Match) (Philly 12/13/86) Philly is HOT. Orndorff storms Hogan at the cage door & wails away. Orndorff tosses Hulk into the cage & rips his shirt off. Mr. Wonderful throws some nasty kicks to Hogan’s head. Orndorff with several ax handles to Hogan’s head. Orndorff tries to escape through the door, but Hulk grabs onto his leg. Heenan is at ringside by the cage door & tries to pull Orndorff out. Awesome. Hogan fires back & throws Orndorff into the cage. Heenan padlocks the cage door which isn’t typically done. Hogan ends up trying to escape there but can’t because of the lock. That’s tremendous. Back & forth back in the cage. Orndorff tries to scale it & climb over. Hogan grabs him at the last second & pulls him back over by the hair. Orndorff is dangling from the top of the cage in a crazy moment. The heat for this is through the roof. More back & forth. Orndorff busts Hogan open. Then a minute later, Mr. Wonderful gets juice. Hogan bites the cut. Hell yeah. Hogan slams & leg drops Orndorff. Heenan panics & unlocks the cage door. He runs inside the cage & grabs Hogan by the leg as Hulk is climbing over. Hogan tosses Heenan into the cage. Heenan with a great head over heels bump. It’s a race to escape first now as Hogan scales the top & Orndorff crawls to the door. Hogan just barely gets his feet on the ground before Orndorff tumbles to the floor through the door. The fans are jubilant. Hogan whacks Orndorff with the WWF Title & slams him into the cage door for good measure afterwards. This is awesome with some crazy heat. I loved all of the Heenan interference stuff too. EASY NOMINATION
June 10Jun 10 comment_6031075 Hulk Hogan vs. Paul Orndorff (Cage Match) (Philly 12/13/86) - Orndorff was relentless early and the early beating was awesome. Even when you think Hogan has turned the corner, the nut shot while Hogan was climbing was smart and vicious. Holy shit, when Orndorff climbed the cage, I can’t believe he didn’t escape, What a close call and even I was trying to figure out how they were going to get him back in the cage. Him being upside down was not an option I thought of. Great moment when Hogan punches Orndorff as he jumps down form the turnbuckle. Perfect timing. The video quality prevents us from seeing the blood on these guys but I will take their word for it since Hogan is biting Orndorff’s head. The finish was amazing and exciting and one of the best escape the cage races ever. EASY NOMINATION. This needs to be directly compared to the SNME cage match.
