Posted June 10Jun 10 comment_6031111 Sherri Martel vs. Rockin’ Robin (Paris 10/7/88) Sherri attacks before the bell but Robin blocks a charge and hits Sherri with a nice back elbow. Sherri grabs the ropes and shakes off a pin attempt but Robin kicks her over the rope to the concrete. Sherri still has her ring jacket on. They do the spot where the ref tells Robin to break the hold as Sherri is draped on the top rope so she gets dropped. Robin fighting dirty… hooks a headlock and when Sherri tries to escape, grabs her hair and pulls her back. Sherri gets a leap frog, turns around and Robin rings her bell. Turns away from the ref and unloads a few punches. The headlock stuff is nice but it is time to move on. Sherri is getting the jeers and boos and is now working on Robin. Nice full nelson reversal from Robin. Sherri tries her own and fails and that gets a pop. Sherri gets the rope break spot again… and gets dropped again. Both women are great here but the crowd is alternately quiet and excited. Ramming Sherri into each turnbuckle gets a huge response followed by a running clothesline for two. The crowd was counting along! Sherri is taking over after the commercial break. The crowd is showing Sherri disdain. The crowd starts a chant. Mon Cherie? Robin gets a sunset flip out of the corner for a huge pop and near fall. The crowd is now biting on all of her near falls including a crazy clothesline due to the great bump Sherri takes. Sherri puts Robin on the top rope, turns around and Robin gets a top rope bulldog and pins Sherri to become the champion. The crowd is ecstatic for her. STRONG NOMINATION. I think this is the Sherri match that goes on the set. Legit great match and a title change to boot. I can’t believe this hasn’t been talked about more historically.
