Part 1:

Part 2:

This match has gotten some decent praise. I thought it was a pretty good match. Orton is silly and fun losing mat exchanges with Backlund early on. There's a great spot where Backlund gets him in a head scissors and Orton keeps trying to do a nip up to get out of it but can't. After the mat fun Backlund gets sent to the floor on a nasty forearm from Orton. They sort of brawl of the floor but don't do much. This results in Backlund getting sent over the rail and into the front row for a King of the Mountain Spot. It's a solid spot but Orton can't really sustain it because he's chasing the title. Once back in, Backlund gets a comeback. Here's where my big issue comes with the match. Backlund is far too in control for the remainder of the match. Orton ends up being the one getting hope spots and it just came across as backwards. The selling and pacing and all was strong. It's just Orton needed a good control segment to really make this match something great but it never happened. The finish is good in theory but is executed poorly. Orton chokes Backlund with a rope to keep him from coming back in the ring and he wins by countout. It ended up being Orton choking Backlund for two seconds and it felt pretty anti-climactic. I imagine others may like this so I gave it a nomination. It's far from a bad match but lacks the intangibles for me to be a great match.

BOB BACKLUND vs BOB ORTON JR. (05/22/1982; WWF Philadelphia Spectrum; 00:20:08)
-    Bob had Orton in a body scissor and they did some great back and forth out of the scissor and running the ropes. When Orton gets back in the ring, Bob hooks in a head scissor and Orton is awesome making Bob’s holds interesting. Out of the head scissors they do some deadlift pins and Orton has to re-group again. Then he offers to shake Bob’s hand. Orton is great early on in WWF. Orton and Boob tangle and Orton breaks clean. The second one, he nails Bob with a forearm that sends him outside. A Macho elbow nails Bob. Orton’s shtick is as great as his wrestling. I love Backlund matches when he has someone who can force him to go like a Bob Orton or Adrian Adonis. Orton throws Bob out again and sends him over the rail. Back in, Orton goes for the superplex but Backlund thwarts him. A Backlund suplex gets two. Orton small package gets two. A Backlund forearm stuns Bob and he has to regroup again. HE gets back inside and gets a Backlund piledriver for his trouble. Orton fights back and tries a Vader splash but gets knees to the gut. Orton continuously has to regoup because Backlund is relentless. Now Orton is crawling away from Backlund and tumbles out of the ring. When Backlund follows, Orton grabs a rope and chokes Backlund but wins on a count out and heads to the hills. Orton put on a show here and this is a STRONG NOMINATION.
